First glimpse of new Nexus 4 emerges Sep 4th 2013, 00:59, by Nick Sarafolean It seems like a whole lot of Google stuffage is happening today. Today ushered in the unveiling of a new Android operating system name, Android 4.4 KitKat. Coinciding with that news, Google also let everyone know that now that the 8GB Nexus 4 has run out of stock, it won’t be resupplied. With all the signs pointing to one thing, it seemed inevitable that the leaks of the new Nexus 4 would be forthcoming. And interestingly enough, it seems that the first credible glimpse of the device comes from El Goog itself. In a video showing off the new Android KitKat statue, a Google employee is seen holding a Nexus device that definitely isn’t the current Nexus 4 or the Nexus 7. It’s a brief look, but screengrabs show another employee in the picture holding a Nexus 4 and there’s a marked difference between the two phones. For one, this new Nexus device features the same sort of horizontal Nexus logo as the 2013 Nexus 7. Another thing is that it appears to be slightly larger than the existing Nexus 4. The back no longer looks to be made out of glass since there’s not any sign of a reflection or even gloss finish on the phone. More than likely, it features the same type of matte plastic as the 2013 Nexus 7 to help keep more of a uniform design throughout the brand. A couple of other things should be mentioned. For one, the camera lens on the device looks larger than usual, perhaps indicating a bigger focus on the camera of the Nexus 4. Another thing is that we can see what looks to be an LG logo. Maybe. For now, we’re going to go ahead and assume that LG is making this new Nexus 4 as it both makes sense and follows some of the rumors swirling around. Unfortunately, Google noticed its goof and pulled the video down. On the bright side, this is the internet and nothing is ever really gone. Several mirrors of the video were made including the one that can be viewed below. See if you can catch a glimpse of the device. 1 billion Android activations to date, says Sundar Pichai— excited for release of KitKat Sep 3rd 2013, 20:41, by Harrison Kaminsky Sundar Pichai, Senior VP at Google, announced on his Google+ page earlier today that Android has surpassed 1 billion device activations. It’s quite the accomplishment, if not one of the greatest ever achieved by a mobile phone operating system. Asus unveils new FonePad 7 with upgraded processor, camera and speakers Sep 3rd 2013, 22:46, by Aditya Thawardas We knew that ASUS was on its way to creating a new FonePad, and today we get to see what they’ve come up with. The company is announcing the new FonePad 7, which features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5MP rear-facing camera with an F2.4 lens, 8GB of internal storage and microSD card support of up to 64GB. It’s very similar to its predecessor, with of course better hardware like an enhanced processor, camera, and dual-front speakers with Sonic Master technology. Video shows KitKat statue going up at Google's headquarters, and the new LG Nexus 5? Sep 3rd 2013, 22:57, by Aditya Thawardas There’s a lot of excitement that’s coming with the news that the newest Android OS will be called KitKat, and not Key Lime Pie as everyone originally thought. A necessary step towards KitKat is of course the statue being erected among the Honeycomb, Gingerbread Man, Eclair, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean statues at Google’s headquarters. If you want to see KitKat man going up, you’re in luck, as Google has released a video showing just that. But, what’s that 38 seconds into the video? It looks a lot like a new Nexus to us. It has a horizontal Nexus logo like the Nexus 7, but it’s definitely smaller than the tablet, and larger than the Nexus 4 right next to this mysterious device. There’s a huge camera with flash, and just maybe we can see an LG logo. What do you think? Click past the break to watch the video yourself. Nexus 5 spotted in Android 4.4 KitKat statue unveiling video Sep 4th 2013, 00:01, by Cory Gunther Today has been full of excitement and random news with Google’s own Sundar Pichai announcing Android 4.4 will officially be called KitKat. Along with the announcement was our first pictures of the KitKat statue going up on the Google HQ lawn, just like previous years, but something caught a few eagle-eyed viewers eyes. Did Google just accidentally unveil the new LG Nexus 5? Possible, but they quickly pulled the video. Just like previous Android releases Google gets another awesome Andy statue to go on their front lawn, and this time was a big chocolate statue. Like previous years they make a wonderful little video and show off the moment, and let us all relive it. However, one Google employee who was also recording the event (at 38 seconds in) appears to be holding a mysterious device. This likely is the Nexus 5 folks. We’ve reported on countless rumors surrounding the next Nexus device from Google, and many believe it will be another LG device similar to the LG G2 announced last month. A few rumors suggested the LG G2 will be the base for the Nexus 5, just like the 4, but the design will closely resemble the new ASUS-made Nexus 7. Complete with a matte back and a similar design around the camera. We reported on this rumor, and now the device seen in the video below appears to confirm those reports. Update: Google’s since pulled the video, but once on the internet, always on the internet. Check it out. What you see above is the purported LG Nexus 5 right in the hands of a Google employee. We’re willing to bet it’s also running some form of Android 4.4 KitKat too, but that’s just a crazy wild guess. If previous reports and the LG G2 base for a design is correct, here’s what to expect. A 5.2-inch 1080p HD display, Snapdragon 800 quad-core at 2.3 GHz and 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and a massive 3,000 mAh battery for all day usage. We’re not going to speculate too much here, but we’ve heard the new Nexus will be quite powerful and match the Nexus 4 on pricing. Well, before the price cuts last week. Get excited folks, and hopefully it supports 4G LTE on all major US carriers, including Verizon.
