Posted: 24 Mar 2012 04:12 PM PDT Instagram for Android has been in the rumor mill for quite a while now and it wasn’t until a recent comment given at SXSW by the founder himself that we finally knew it was actually on its way. For those of you who are just dying to get your hands on the app may I suggest heading over to the sign up page to register to be notified once it’s available. No telling whether this is a beta sign up or if it’s simply a notification that the app is officially available. Either way the sooner you sign up the sooner you will be notified… You still here? Hit that that little link below already. I know you want to! Instagram sign up source: Twitter Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 24 Mar 2012 03:44 PM PDT Live wallpapers are a dime a dozen these days and many of them simply just fall flat. I am usually not even a big fan of them, especially not the “particle” ones that all do pretty much the exact same thing. That was until I tried Radiant Particles, the particle live wallpaper that actually kicks ass. The $1.59 paid version of this live wallpaper allows you to customize up to 50,000 tiny particles, altering their shape, color, movement and touch-response actions. Tap or swipe your screen and watch the particles swirl behind your touch and then slowly dissipate on their own. There is even an auto motion feature that makes the particles move by themselves without requiring your touch interaction. If you are ready to turn the live wallpaper off to save on battery, just double tap the screen and freeze all particle movement. The free version is definitely a good place to start to see if this is an app that you will like. You won’t get all the cool options but you do get a choice of either blue or orange particles with a black background and either version works on both tablets and smartphones. I am pretty confident that once you check out the free version you will want to unlock all the possibilities of the paid version so you can tweak it to your liking. Posted: 24 Mar 2012 11:57 AM PDT XDA forum user faiyyaz came up with a nifty little app for those of you looking for a new notification method for your incoming calls. Upon installation, whenever you get a call, your camera flash LED will blink. It can also act as a flashlight, or torch as he calls it, by simply opening the app. Upon opening the app it will show you a digital clock as well. The assumption is that you might find this useful in the middle of the night for checking the time and maybe getting up in the dark after you’ve realized that nature is calling. This one isn’t in the Play Store, but you can download the APK here. source: xda Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 24 Mar 2012 11:24 AM PDT The folks at XDA developers were able to extract the Dropbox APK from the HTC One X and modify it to work on any Android device. As we already know, the HTC One X comes with 25 GB of free space for two years, which equates to 23 GB more than everyone else (standard is 2GB for free). By installing this modified APK on your device, you will instantly have access to the same additional 23GB for two years. Hit the break for the download link and intructions

Posted: 24 Mar 2012 10:35 AM PDT Motorola is one step closer to bringing yet another toy for those of you who want to make life easier (and automated) for you and your homes. Its Connected Home Gateway box is a home automation box tool which was introduced earlier this year, is intended to make things simpler for users by having the ability to do such things like dim lights and adjust a temperature once you leave your home. The awesome thing is once everything is programmed with its UI, it allows for simple and seamless operation and accessibility from your mobile device. Apparently it has quietly slipped past the FCC doors and looks as if its set for arrival on customers’ doors in the near-future. No word yet on exactly when it will arrive on customers’ doors, but we do know Big Red will be featuring the product as it will be part of its Z-wave based Home Monitoring and Control system. It always seems like Verizon always gets the good stuff doesn’t it? source: Engadget Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 24 Mar 2012 09:51 AM PDT Sony has really upped its game this year as it looks to go toe-to-toe with Android kingpins Samsung, HTC and Motorola. The latest flagship device, the Xperia S, was revealed to the world at the CES show back in January and the device is picking up critical acclaim throughout the tech world. It seemed this morning that Canada would be the next country to pick up the device as the Sony Mobile Facebook page posted the above image early this morning. The admittedly genuine looking advert suggested that Xperia S is ‘coming soon’ to Rogers Canada however all may not be as it seems. Just as quickly as the image was posted it disappeared again in a cloud of mystery. Canadian tech site MobileSyrup contacted Rogers who confirmed that while the device will certainly be compatible with its network, there are no specific plans to offer it directly. It looks like any Canadian Xperia S fans might need to pick up this new flagship device sim-free. Just in case you’d forgotten, The Xperia S boasts a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.3″ 720p display, and a market leading 12MP camera. The device ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread however Ice Cream Sandwich will follow shortly thereafter. Definitely a device worth getting your hands, whether it’s sim-free or otherwise! source : mobilesyrup Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 24 Mar 2012 02:13 AM PDT The yet-to-be-released LG Optimus 3D Max, successor to the very first 3D smartphone, the LG Optimus 3D, is now one step closer to release, gaining Global Certification Forum (GCF) approval. The Max, codenamed the P720, is approved for quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies, EDGE class 12, and HSDPA category 14. It will most likely not have 4G LTE. This device will sport a dual-core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP procesor, 1GB of RAM, and run Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread out of the box (promised ICS update to come). The Max will also feature greatly improved 3D experience. No official dates for release, but judging by when they got GCF approval, the device could be launching before the end of Q2. That’s anywhere between April and June, and that’s most likely starting with Asia. So who’s looking forward to the Max? source: globalcertificationforum via: androinica Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 24 Mar 2012 01:09 AM PDT It’s nice to see Gameloft publishing more free games into the Google Play Store these days. Gameloft announced in their annual financial report that more free apps are coming, including The Dark Knight Rises, Ice Age, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, My Little Pony, and Littlest Pet Shop. So how are they providing so many apps for free? With in-app purchases, of course. Every game the studio releases this year will apparently be “heavily social” and include in-app purchases. Looks like they are taking a page from Glu Mobile with this method of monetization, and with this level of commitment, it seems like it’s been working for them. Free games are good, but some folks dislike the concept, feeling that it’s unfair to keep certain features that would make the game complete behind a pay wall. Personally, I have no problem with Gameloft’s implementation of in-app purchasing since they seem to keep it pretty well balanced and still playable without requiring payment. What are your thoughts on in-app purchases? Tell us in the comments! source: pocketgamer via: droidgamers Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 23 Mar 2012 11:29 PM PDT We already know Samsung announced Angry Birds Space and not the Galaxy Tab 11.6 at SXSW. So where is this mystery tablet? Apparently, it’s hiding right on Samsung’s own site. Or at least something that looks like it could be an 11.6-inch Galaxy Tab. The image appears inside a PDF document on a page about the Exynos 5250 processor, which is the same 2 GHz Exynos 5250 that is rumored to be powering an upcoming Galaxy Tab. This tablet looks similar to the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, with some minor tweaks. Of course, this image could simply be a generic prototype or mockup used for the Exynos brochure. You be the judge. Full high resolution image after the break. Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! |
Posted: 23 Mar 2012 08:38 PM PDT It was back in January when the uber popular game Shadowgun received “The Leftover” update, a welcomed expansion pack containing four additional levels and a slew of new features. At that time the update was limited to the standard game while the Tegra 3 THD version was promised to arrive in the near future. Well here we are two months later and Shadowgun THD is finally getting its just desserts as the “Datadisc” update has landed in the Google Play store. Once updated this is what you can expect:
