Archos announces 97 Carbon and “Elements” tablet line, we barely notice Posted: 05 Jul 2012 11:17 AM PDT Archos hasn't exactly been known as the king of Android tablets, and we haven't heard much from them as of late. So it's rather fitting that Archos announced the Elements line of tablets, and the first device in said line, the 97 Carbon. While we are
Archos has yet again released a device with specs that would've been impressive three years ago. Of course, the 97 Carbon is part of the new Elements line, so we may see other devices released that actually fit into the year 2012. Archos reportedly has plans to launch 7-inch and 8-inch tablets under the Elements name later this year, so there's still a slight chance we could be impressed. As for the 97 Carbon, Archos plans to release the device later this month, with a $230-$250 price tag. Given that Archos isn't very well known in the U.S., we doubt that we'll see an extravagant launch. The full press release can be found after the break. More on this as it develops. So, do you think Archos should hang up its hat in the Android tablet world? Do low-end devices like this have a purpose in today's market? Drop a comment below! HTC beats Apple in patent dispute for swipe to unlock in London court Posted: 05 Jul 2012 10:48 AM PDT A High court in the U.K. has made it official: HTC's "swipe to unlock" feature does not, in fact, impede on any Apple patents. To add to the mix, the court said that the other three complaints lodged by Apple were invalid as well. These were the patents in question:
The judge presiding over the case said that slide to unlock is an "obvious" development. Apple refused to comment, but rather re-issued a previous statment, saying:
Score one for true use of open technology, and the use of universal development for true innovation. Nexus Q gets torn down, some parts are in fact imported Posted: 05 Jul 2012 10:38 AM PDT The Nexus Q was announced by Google recently, and some people are still trying to figure out why they want one. Well, for you hardware-centric readers out there, iFixIt has released their tear down of the device to show you what's inside. Google said that the Q is made in America, and some people are having a hard time believing that some parts are not in fact made in the USA. The 16GB moviNAND Flash Memory module may have been made here in the US in Austin TX, but it also could have been made in South Korea. The ethernet and optical out? Could have only come from China. We also see:
While not all parts were manufactured here in the states, Google has yet to respond, but we have the feeling it will be something along the lines of "It is assembled in the USA", which would keep Google to the truth. Motorola announces the Atrix HD with LTE, possibly on AT&T Posted: 05 Jul 2012 05:01 AM PDT Motorola has announced their latest device, the Motorola Atrix HD. The device has been speculated on for a little while now, but now Moto has made it official. The device will be available in two colors: titanium and modern white. Motorola has made some changes to their standard UI, throwing on-screen Android 4.x buttons into the mix. We're also looking at the standard Motorola use of Kevlar in the body. As far as specs are concerned, here's what we're looking at:
There's also talk about the device being "business ready", stating that "government grade encryption" is in the mix, along with VPN to keep you hooked up to your office. There's also webtop, with use of an HD dock, VGA adapter, and a smart controller. While Motorola did not say when we would see the Atrix HD, nor which carrier it would be on, the render shows AT&T branding... quite a give away. If you're looking for more info, you can head to Motorola's site and sign up for updates. via motorola Motorola announces the Atrix HD with LTE, possibly on AT&T originally appeared on AndroidGuys. Posted: 05 Jul 2012 04:51 AM PDT Anyone else around here sick and tired of hearing about these patent wars? Apple has really taken their reports of patent infringement to the next level, and Samsung has been the brunt of a lot of the attacks. Recently, there has been a sales ban of the Galaxy Nexus here in the states. Apple won their injunction and posted the needed bail, and now Samsung and Google are working together to fix up the software on the GNex so they can get sales rolling again. The ban was made official in US courts, and only hours later, Samsung tried to get the ban lifted. Unfortunately, much like in the case of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 ban, the courts denied it. Apple has posted the needed $96 million bond, and sales in the Play Store of the Galaxy Nexus are official. The software patch being worked on by Samsung and Google are said to be only a temporary patch, but that would allow sales (hopefully) to continue in the US. Samsung also intends to continue on an actual appeal route through appeals court, but that process takes time. Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments. via cnet Samsung and Google working together on software fix to circumvent sales ban on Galaxy Nexus after ban lift denied originally appeared on AndroidGuys. Samsung denied ban lift on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales Posted: 05 Jul 2012 04:36 AM PDT Last week, Apple was granted a ban on sales in the US of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Earlier this week, Judge Lucy Koh denied Samsung a request for a temporary lift of said ban. Samsung wanted the temporary lift done until an official ruling could be made on the infringement case, but Koh said it was a no go. Samsung is currently attempting to appeal the decision, with the the whole thing going to federal appeals court. Apparently, it looks like the court could very well put a temporary lift of their own on the ban while they consider the appeal case. What do you think about the case? Sound off in the comments below. via phandroid Samsung denied ban lift on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales originally appeared on AndroidGuys. Get more AndroidGuys on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube!
