DROID RAZR HD to be unveiled on September 5th at Motorola event Posted: 17 Aug 2012 04:35 PM PDT We received a “save the date” from Motorola for September 5th in New York City. No other details were specified, but I think it’s safe to assume it will be the unveiling of the DROID RAZR HD. It was last October that Motorola announced the resurrection of the DROID RAZR along with the MOTOACTV. The DROID RAZR HD seems like a really good phone from the rumored specs, but unless there is something earth-shattering, it won’t offer anything more than the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy S III. Quite frankly, I’m surprised Motorola is planning an event around this. Hopefully there will be some more surprises in store. Stay tuned because I will be there to get all the juicy details.

T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S III to Receive Maintenance Update; Removes Universal Search Feature Posted: 17 Aug 2012 03:10 PM PDT An update for T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S III is due out and includes several improvements, and possibly a feature being removed that will cause some controversy. Here’s a little of what you can expect from this maintenance update:
You can also expect the addition of a brightness slide bar in the notification shade, a new radio/modem and a new kernel that’s been on the new batches of S III’s that have been recently arriving at T-Mobile. While there’s no full proof verification on this, there is a strong possibility that this update will take away the Universal Search feature out of the S III. If you don’t remember, this is the feature that Apple has been trying to take away from numerous Android devices so it wouldn’t surprise me if Samsung took it out as a precaution. As we get more details on this impending update, we’ll be sure to let you all know. source: TMONEWS

Lenovo unveils K860 LePhone, packs 5-inch display and quad-core Exynos Posted: 17 Aug 2012 12:05 PM PDT After reporting a record-breaking quarter for profits, Lenovo isn’t ready to slow down anytime soon. Today, the Chinese company officially unveiled the K860 LePhone, a slightly-bulky powerhouse of a device. The newest iteration in the LePhone lineup brings a quad-core Exynos 4412 processor, a Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB of RAM and a 5-inch (1280 x 720) display. In addition, users will get a 2-megapixel camera on the front for video chat and an 8-megapixel shooter on the back with support for continuous 100-frame recording and 1080p video. The device will launch with Android 4.0.4 and there’s no word on whether or not we’ll see an update to Jelly Bean in the near future. However, for those worried about battery life, Lenovo has opted to include a beefy 2,250mAh cell to feed the power-hungry K860. There’s still no official word regarding pricing or availability, but we’ll keep you updated. source: Engadget

Custom Kernel for the Nexus 7 Brings Huge Performance Boost Posted: 17 Aug 2012 11:19 AM PDT One of the biggest advantages of owning an Android device is having the ability to customize not only the interface, but the system settings itself. Part of that includes flashing a custom kernel, which can bring all sorts of enhancements to a variety of levels. Such settings include specifying voltages, underclock or overclock speeds of the CPU, custom color settings. You get the idea. XDA Senior member clemsyn has created a modified kernel for the Nexus 7 called the Elite Kernel, which is a modified version of the Motley kernel originally created by XDA Senior Member _motley. Hit the break for the list of tweaks this customized kernel brings.
The enhancements seem to be geared towards gaming, so if you love gaming on your Nexus, especially titles such as Dead Trigger, then this modification may be for you. It should be noted that not all Nexus 7 tablets will be able to handle this kernel due to the aggressive lowering of voltages. If you want to give this a try, we recommend taking a Nandroid backup before attempting any modification of this sort. Hit the source link for more information. Happy Modding! Source: XDA

Featured Play Store Review: Bring back the fun of Tic-Tac-Toe with Super TTT [Hands on Video] Posted: 17 Aug 2012 09:10 AM PDT Remember when you were much younger and you loved to play tic-tac-toe? A very simple game at the time, but it was a whole lot of fun. Of course, as we got older the game was just too boring because of it’s simplicity. Well it’s time to bring back that fun with Super TTT. We all download cool games and for me, most of them last a couple of days or a week and then I move on to the next one. With Super TTT, I can honestly say that I’ve been playing this bad boy for over a month now and I can’t quit. There are two aspects of this game that make it great. First, it’s very challenging and second, you can play anybody anywhere in the world at your own pace like Words With Friends and Draw Something. As to the game, it’s a Super version of tic-tac-toe in which the game board consists of nine mini tic-tac-toe boards. Players are either X’s or O’s, similar to the original game. Seems simple right? Think again. You really have to plan out your moves because depending on where you place your X or O, it determines where your opponent has to play. For example, if you place an X in the top left of the center mini board, your opponent will then have to play his or her O in any free space in the top left mini board. At the start of the game, the player that gets to go first can place his or her X/O anywhere they want. There’s still one more catch. As players get tic-tac-toes in the mini boards, nobody can play in those anymore. What that means is if you play in a spot that would direct your opponent to one of those completed mini boards, your opponent will have the option of playing their X/O in any uncompleted mini board. It’s really hard to explain, but you will easily get the hang of it, and I’ve included a video below to show you how it works. How do you win? All you have to do is win three mini boards in a row for tic-tac-toe. Now you might be asking, what happens if nobody can achieve that (which would happen a lot in traditional tic-tac-toe)? You can still win by winning at least five mini boards. I would say that the majority of my games are won by getting three in a row, and I have yet to experience a tie. As to playing with opponents, fans of Words With Friends and Draw Something will feel right at home. You can create a new account or log in via Facebook. You can search for any user and invite them to a game or you can play a random opponent. You don’t have to worry about setting aside a lot of time to play a game because you will get notifications when it’s your turn. A game can take as little as a few hours or a few days. You can also save any players as friends so you can easily find them in the future. You can also chat with your opponents, and if they take too long to play, you can nudge them, which will send them another notification reminder that it’s their turn. Sometimes it can get a little tough to plan out your moves so they also have what’s called a Strats Map. You can use this to simulate where you think your opponent will move and see how things could break down 6 plays later (3 moves for you and 3 moves for your opponent). That definitely comes in handy. They are going to be coming out with a paid version that will let you save multiple maps. Super TTT is Free and its a total blast. Check out my hands on video and then hit one of the download links below. BTW, it looks great on the Nexus 7.
