Posted: 14 Jan 2013 12:07 PM PST Have you ever found yourself in a situation where your devices outnumber your available chargers and/or outlets? I know I sure do. Last week with CES, that problem was magnified as I shared a hotel room with three other bloggers. As we got closer to bedtime on the first evening, you could feel each of us eyeballing the outlets and trying to figure out how we would charge our phones, camera, tablets, and laptops. It was not an easy situation to overcome and we ended up unplugging the television, lamps, and alarm clock. The second night, I didn't have a problem at all. What was the difference? It's called the Kanex Sydnee and it's a blogger's lifesaver. It might not be the most portable of devices, but it's already become a fixture on the office desk. Be sure to follow AndroidGuys on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube! In a nutshell, the Sydnee turns one plug into four USB ports, each capable of 2.1A output. In other words, all four are able to power tablets with quick charging. You'll see from the images and embedded video that the Sydnee offers a great design that looks good on the office desk, nightstand, or kitchen counter. The front lip allows for a tablet to rest in either landscape or portrait mode and there's plenty of room on the backside for wrapping cords. It might not be the most portable of devices, but it's already become a fixture on the office desk. It's worth pointing out that the Sydnee comes with 3-USB cables which lets you instantly charge any iOS devices. Seeing as how I don't own anything on that front, I simply swapped in my own USB cables with microUSB plugs. Presto! Keeping that in mind, the Sydnee works great in cases where co-workers or spouses might want to charge a phone and/or tablet overnight. What We Liked

Samsung SCH-I425 ‘Godiva’ leaks, bound for Verizon Posted: 14 Jan 2013 11:02 AM PST A Samsung SCH-I425 has been spotted on the GLBenchmark database, hinting at an upcoming Verizon smartphone. Operating under the codename of ‘Godiva’, the phone appears to run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and feature a 1280×720 display, 1.4GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, and 4G LTE connectivity. It’s possible that this could ultimately be the latest member of the Stratosphere family, especially given the timing. Should that prove to be the case, the ‘Godiva’ may pack a physical QWERTY keyboard.

Posted: 14 Jan 2013 10:25 AM PST If you’ve followed the Android space for any length of time then chances are good that you’ve encountered a rugged smartphone or tablet along the way. Surely, you’ve seen a waterproof or dustproof handset and/or an IP rating. But what the heck is an IP rating and how do you tell them apart? As one of our readers (Clint Henderson) tells us, it’s not all that difficult to figure out. First off, IP stands for Ingress Protection and is designed to help rate suitability of enclosures against elements such as rain or dust. The first digit of the IP rating has to deal with protection against solids and ranges from 1-6 with the higher numbers protecting better. The second digit refers to protection against liquids and ranges from 1-8 with the higher numbers protecting against immersion. We’ve embedded a chart below which spells things out quite nicely and think you’d be better for checking it out.

Kyocera E6710 Torque passes through FCC en route to Sprint Posted: 14 Jan 2013 09:53 AM PST A Kyocera E6710 ‘Torque’ recently passed through the FCC, tipping one of Sprint’s next 4G LTE smartphones. Details thus far are somewhat scarce, but are reported to include NFC, a pair of cameras, and an overall rugged design. Looking at the photo, the Torque appears to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and offer a display with a resolution in the vicinity of 800 x 480 pixels. Kyocera models are typically less expensive devices for consumers so we expect that this will be the same for the Torque. Will you line up around the block for a rugged 4G LTE smartphone from Sprint? Samsung Galaxy S III surpasses 40 million in global sales Posted: 14 Jan 2013 06:52 AM PST Having eclipsed the 30 million mark in the first 150 days, we expected the Samsung Galaxy S III to continue to sell well over the next few months. Samsung today confirmed that the entire family of Galaxy S handsets has topped the 100 million milestone, with the Galaxy S III accounting for 40 million. Having taken only seven months to hit that figure, the Galaxy S III is far and away the most popular Android smartphone thus far. Looking ahead, we can imagine the Galaxy S 4 will be quite well received when it debuts later this spring. What’s more, the Galaxy Note family is gaining in popularity as well, having adapted the “one form factor across all major carriers” strategy that the Galaxy S III employed.
