Blurry photo of Sony i1 Honami cameraphone leaks, specs included Posted: 17 Jun 2013 02:30 PM PDT Sony will be competing with the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom and the Nokia EOS in the fall when it releases its own cameraphone, the i1 Honami. The device will come with a Cybershot-quality camera and a full HD display. If the specs that have been leaked so far are legitimate, then this phone could be an absolute beast. It is expected to be the first true “One Sony” device, made with the strategy of converging the best Sony has to offer in its mobile gear. Salivate after the break.

Video sharing on Instagram could debut on June 20th Posted: 17 Jun 2013 01:24 PM PDT Facebook’s Instagram photo sharing service appears to be on the brink of adding video sharing to the set of features it is capable of supporting. Sources have surfaced today indicating they believe a Facebook event scheduled for June 20th could be the unveiling of this video sharing capability. The addition of video sharing appears to be in response to Twitter’s Vine service which enables the sharing of short videos through that network. Since being unveiled about six months ago, Vine has been increasing in popularity at a nice pace with iOS users. However, once Vine for Android was released earlier this month, the service has exploded and in the process, the number of tweets sharing Vine videos has surpassed the number of tweets sharing Instagram photos. The move to incorporate video sharing into the Instagram platform appears on the surface to be a result of the popularity of Vine. No doubt when Vine surfaced, Facebook started working on a similar service although it may not have foreseen the impact Vine would have once Android users had access to the service. Even while the sharing of short clips was in a growth cycle, Instagram was in the process of pulling the ability to display photos inline on Twitter. That change has forced users to opt for one service over the other or go through the trouble of double-posting photos. Facebook’s gamble with the move was that users would opt to stick with the Facebook/Instagram platform. However, with the new Vine service, users had another reason to opt for the Twitter platform when sharing photos or video. Facebook has declined to comment on the rumors. We will have to keep an eye on Facebook’s event on the 20th to see whether short video sharing is coming to the Instagram platform or if other new services are in the works. source: TechCrunch

New MPme Radio app promises to find the perfect radio station for you Posted: 17 Jun 2013 10:16 AM PDT Android users who enjoy finding live radio stations to stream over their device may want to check out a new entrant in the market, MPme Radio. MPme Radio claims to take the chore of creating playlists by curating live radio stations for you. Several options are available for users to access streaming radio stations, including direct entry, searches based on genre or favorite artists, scanning your music library, and reviewing your likes on Facebook. The app then searches a database to find online, live radio stations that stream through the app. MPme says the music sources available through the app are free and unlimited, though they leave the number of available stations listed as a nebulous “thousands”. It appears the app integrates with iTunes to scan a user’s library and can reveal new tracks available on iTunes. The app supports Airplay for those wanting to make use of that functionality on their device. Check out some screenshots below. If you are interested in trying out MPme Radio, hit one of the source links below to grab the free app.

More details of new Oppo Find 7 leaked Posted: 17 Jun 2013 09:01 AM PDT Oppo Mobile appears to be working on a successor to the Oppo Find 5 smartphone that will come with a 4000mAh battery to help power it through the day. The new device has been dubbed the Oppo Find 7 by the rumor mill and will feature a Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. More, more, more! Insiders predict upcoming 6-inch phones will feature 2,560 x 1,600 pixels for 2014 Posted: 17 Jun 2013 08:39 AM PDT
Just as consumers are now starting to enjoy 1080p displays on current high-end smartphones out there, it appears that phones with even better displays are on the way for 2014. According to various insider sources, the general public will see more premium phablet devices utilizing 6-inch displays with a WQXGA resolution. In other words, it will be common to see devices utilizing a 6-inch screen sizes will feature a resolution of 2,560 x 1600. Moreover, the displays will feature a pixel density of an unheard of 500ppi (or greater), placing the displays head and shoulders above what is currently out at this time, including Apple’s Retina Display technology. What this means is that consumers can expect to see even clearer texts, deeper colors and richer content overall on select phablet devices. Of course it is already fairly difficult for the human eye to discern most 720p displays to the average 1080p display now, so it is unsure whether consumers will be able to tell the difference between a 1080p display to a 1600p display. Still– who wouldn’t want a 2,560 x 1,600 display that’s found on say, a Nexus 10 tablet on upcoming flagship smartphones, right? source: ET News

Samsung to launch new Galaxy S 4 with LTE Advanced support soon Posted: 17 Jun 2013 08:13 AM PDT
In an effort to break the world record for most variants of a single smartphone, Reuters reports that Samsung CEO JK Shin has confirmed they will producing a version of the Galaxy S 4 with support for LTE Advanced within the next month for Korean markets. LTE Advanced is a faster form of the LTE we’re used to, offering up to twice the speed of current networks. Reuters uses the example of movie downloads, stating that a movie that takes 3 minutes to download on LTE would be finished in just over a minute on LTE advanced. Shin also confirmed that these variants would be powered by Snapdragon processors, which could explain those Galaxy S 4 benchmarks with a Snapdragon 800 CPU under the hood. The Snapdragon 800 is going to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest, mobile processors ever, so combining that type of hardware with a network that’s twice as fast as traditional LTE is going to make for one fantastic phone. source: Reuters

Verizon rumored to release customizable Galaxy S 4 under a different name Posted: 17 Jun 2013 07:47 AM PDT Famous leaker @evleaks is at it again, this time tipping us off to the possibility of a customizable Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4. As you can see in the image above, Verizon would allow you to create a custom backside for the device and a wallpaper to match. The design of the back plate is provided by Kidrobot, a toy manufacturer featuring work by dozens of graphics artists. This version of the S 4 will allegedly be released under a new name, which has yet to be released. Aside from the name not much else is known about the device, although apparently the new back pieces will not be compatible with the current version of the Galaxy S 4. With four new colors being released this summer, more choices are always welcome. Let us know below if you’re interested in a pimped-out custom S 4, or if you think its just another gimmick to move units. Source: @evleaks

Samsung is giving Jay-Z’s new album to one million Galaxy users for free download Posted: 17 Jun 2013 07:23 AM PDT Followers of our site are probably familiar with Samsung and Jay-Z’s mysterious $20 million partnership. Those who tuned into Game Five of the NBA Finals last night were treated to more details, and for fans of the undisputed king of mainstream hip-hop, the news was exciting. According to a dedicated website, Jay-Z is giving his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, to one million Galaxy phone owners (specifically the SIII, S 4, and Note II) via a special app available from the Google Play Store. The app will be made available on June 24th and will feature a special look inside the making of the album, and then on July 4th (three days before the album’s official release) at 12:01 am EDT, the first million people will have access to a free download of the album. Presumably this is only the beginning of the partnership, and I for one am curious to see what other innovative ideas Jay-Z and Samsung can come up with. Let us know in the comments if you plan on grabbing the app and making a mad dash to download the album on the 4th. Source: Magna Carta Holy Grail
