Panasonic confirmed on Thursday that it plans to stop working on consumer-level smartphones in September. The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise as these rumors have been kicking about since this summer.
The company does plan, however, to continue development of feature phones and (possibly) non-consumer smartphones for its home turf of Japan.
How much of an impact does this have on you, the average user based in the U.S.? Most likely, zero. Still, this does go to show that the space is crowded and dominated by a select group of players. NEC also recently announced intentions to leave the smartphone business.
