Sony Xperia Z Ultra screen issues surface Aug 22nd 2013, 19:00, by Sterling Keys The Xperia Z Ultra hasn’t been off to that great of a start. The new phablet from Sony was touted with a 6.4-inch screen that could be used with a pen or pencil, that is, if you’re able to get the screen to work. Reports have been coming in from owners of the device that are having issues with display issues and even with the display refusing to turn on.  The Xperia Z Ultra is off to a shaky start with widespread display issues. / © AndroidPIT (This is a preview - click here to read the entire entry.)

Google Now update adds car rental, concert tickets, more commute cards Aug 22nd 2013, 17:51, by Dima Aryeh Google Now is Google’s intelligent search app made to provide information before you ask for it, and it works pretty damn well. It populates the screen with relevant cards. Users can customize the experience by selecting which cards they want to see from a menagerie of options. A new update rolling out to those on Android 4.1 or higher will add quite a few more cards to the mix, making your life a little easier. Two awesome new cards are for car rentals and concert tickets. If you happen to use Gmail for either of these purchases, you’ll have a card in Google Now giving you information with buttons to get even more. The car rental card will act much like a boarding pass card for a plane flight, if you’ve ever used it. Commute cards have also been improved. Public transit cards will now show you the last train or bus available, just so you won’t miss it. There is also a new feature that allows you to share your commute with friends and family. So when you commute, they’re informed of it. There are a few extra features included in this update. When searching for music or movies, a “remind me” button will pop up. Press it, and you’ll be reminded when the album or movie is released. The TV card can also now identify specific news or music playing on your TV. And lastly, NCAA football scores will be available for sports fans at the start of football season. Once again, Google has improved an app that has made many lives quite a lot easier. With more and more cards, we’re ever closer to being fully informed at all times. That may be good or bad in your opinion, but it’s pretty awesome and surreal. I know that Google Now has assisted me quite often in life, but has it improved yours? Update rolling out to new Nexus 7, claims to fix multitouch issues Aug 22nd 2013, 16:57, by Dima Aryeh When the second generation Nexus 7 was launched, it was plagued with many problems. Factory images weren’t being released, people complained about multitouch issues and the GPS cut out for many. Google seems to have worked hard to make the device better, and the first two issues have been fixed. Previously, Google posted the factory images for the device on their site. Today, they’re beginning to roll out a new update for the tablet. The update is Android build JSS15Q and is made specifically to fix the multitouch issues many people experienced. And though not everyone has received it, there are already reports that it does indeed fix the issue! People had many theories about why these issues were present, but it was probably something as simple as a bad undervolt on the touchscreen controller. That’s why it worked better plugged in; it received the proper voltage. We’re glad to see the update fixing people’s issues without the need for an RMA. Have you received this update? Did it fix your issues?

The QWERTY equipped LG Enact now available on Verizon Aug 22nd 2013, 17:31, by Brad Ward Well, here’s something you don’t see everyday. The QWERTY equipped LG Enact is now available on Verizon for $19.99 on a new two year contract. Alternatively, you can purchase this budget level smartphone outright for $349.99. If you’re like me, getting in s two year contract with a budget phone like this wouldn’t be ideal with all of the new gadgets constantly releasing. Nonetheless, the LG Enact really isn’t that bad when it comes to hardware. Under the hood of the LG Enact is a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot to expand the handset’s storage capabilities, and a 2,460 mAh battery. On the software side of things, we’re looking at a skinned version of Android 4.1. One of the most compelling things about the LG Enact is probably its battery. Sure, it’s a chunky smartphone, but a battery this big in such a low spec’d phone will make the device last for days. Surely Qualcomm’s crazy power saving features will help that along as well. While this might not be a phone that will appeal to the masses, those who love having a QWERTY equipped device will thoroughly enjoy the LG Enact, especially with that really large battery. What do you think about the LG Enact? In fact, what are your thoughts on QWERTY smartphones in general? Are you a fan? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Galaxy Note 3 colors at launch reportedly confirmed: black and white, with pink to follow Aug 22nd 2013, 17:37, by Chris Smith The Galaxy Note 3 colors at launch have apparently been confirmed by a publication – unsurprisingly the next Samsung flagship smartphone is said to be release in black and white. However, Sam Mobile says that about a month after the launch, the phone will also be available in pink. Considering Samsung's way of doing things when it comes to its previous high-end handsets, we would expect the phone to arrive in a variety of other colors in the months following the launch. Sam Mobile says the black and white versions of the Galaxy Note 3 will start shipping in week 36 (September 2-8), while the pink version will arrive in week 43 (October 21-27). Naturally, these ship dates sand colors aren’t official yet, even though the publication does have a great track record when it comes to reporting on upcoming Samsung devices. We'll thoroughly cover the Galaxy Note 3 event taking place on September 4 in Berlin, Germany, at which point we’ll tell you all there is to know about Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Note model. Meanwhile you can check out our Galaxy Note 3 rumor roundup, or what we think we know about the device ahead of its official announcement.

Bring the Share Menu up to Scratch - AppChooser Pro Aug 22nd 2013, 17:54, by Kris Carlon To share content on your Android devices we have the Share Menu - which is a practical thing. No laborious caching in the file system in order to find the file in the second app: all apps can simply "hang" on the list to receive shared content. But that's what makes this menu awkward - especially if one has installed many apps that have sharing capabilities. The entry that you need most is usually at the end of the list, or can only be found with difficulty. I have therefore taken a closer look at AppChooser Pro. Whether this app provides a remedy to a cluttered Share Menu and if so, how well it achieves this, you can find out below. (This is a preview - click here to read the entire entry.)

LG Enact available on Verizon for $20 Aug 22nd 2013, 18:30, by Sterling Keys You know what I miss some times? The feel of a physical QWERTY keyboard on the phone that I’m using. I’ve since gotten used to the lack of one and embraced the feel (or lack of feel) of the touchscreen keyboard however I still long for the days of long past. Fortunately, while the QWERTY-equipped smartphone is becoming rarer and rarer, the LG Enact has dropped on Verizon and brings it back in LTE glory. Want a QWERTY Android phone? Got 20 bucks? Verizon has the answer for you. / © Verizon   (This is a preview - click here to read the entire entry.)
