Motorola X Phone might come in 20 colors

What’s your favorite color? Well unless you went on a tangent, you may be able to pick up Motorola’s X Phone in your color of choice. The rumor mill is churning and what’s being pumped out is word that Motorola’s new phone may come in 20 different colors. Now all of this is according to a source for Phone Arena, so take it with a grain of salt.

Is this part of what Eric Schmidt was hinting about? This also sounds like it could be some of the “wow” they want to put back into their phones. In any case, this sounds like an excellent idea by Google and Motorola. I’m sure customers will see it that way too. Let’s hope this is one of the few rumors that turns into reality.

Falcon Pro gets major update and brings plenty of new goodies along for the ride

Falcon Pro has just gotten an extensive update which brings even more features and awesomeness to all of you obsessed  Twitter types out there. The update brings the software version to 1.8 and brings new goodies such as:

Google Fiber officially coming to Provo, UT

Provo mayor John Curtis took to the podium this afternoon to officially announce the “epic” news that Google Fiber is coming to Provo, UT. According to the deal that was announced, Google Fiber will offer free Internet service for any of Provo’s 115,000 residents who are currently on the existing iProvo network for a mere $30 activation fee for up to 7 years. Google will upgrade the existing network to Gigabit technology as part of the project and when the upgrade is complete, residents will be able to upgrade their service to Gigabit level.  Google is also offering to provide free Gigabit service to 25 local entities like schools, hospitals and libraries. Provo’s government has been struggling with their iProvo network, going so far as to solicit proposals to sell the network to a private entity. After making a trip to Silicon Valley and being able to meet with Google representatives, Provo officials realized Google Fiber fit in nicely with a 50-year visioning process that was underway for Provo. This announcement makes Provo the third city to have Google Fiber, following in the footsteps of Kansas City and Austin, Texas.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 officially confirmed by Sprint and T-Mobile

The cat is out of the bag as both Sprint and T-Mobile will carry the Samsung Galaxy S 4. The S 4 can be found on both carrier’s websites, with Sprint having a big banner that uses Samsung’s tag line: “Countdown To The Next Big Thing”. Additionally, there is also a countdown clock with just under 13 and half hours to go at the time of this writing. T-Mobile has it on their site as well however it is a little less in your face, with just a little box with “Coming Soon” on it.

We have already seen Verizon and AT&T confirm the S 4, as well as Telus in Canada, and even Walmart has started taking preorders for the device. So the fact that Sprint and T-Mobile has joined the game, should be of no surprise for Samsung’s new flagship phone. Sprint is offering the device for $249 with a new two-year contract. Existing customers can get it for $149 with a new two-year contract. In a hope to gain new customers, Sprint has extended that price offer to new customers willing to switch their numbers. So if you switch your number to Sprint, you can also pick up the S 4 for only $149 with a new two-year contract.

T-mobile is more mum on their plans. There is however, a sign up page for anyone who wants to receive information on the phone. If you don’t feel like signing up for it, don’t worry we already signed up, and will always pass along any info we get to the readers.

Following up this morning’s official announcement regarding availability of the Samsung Galaxy S 4, Samsung has also released details regarding several official accessories that will be available. These accessories should prove popular with new owners interested in protecting their new device, extending its usefulness, or just using the “Life Companion” to make life more interesting. U.S. Cellular is already using the accessories to entice buyers by throwing in a free S View flip cover with online pre-orders. The flip cover goes beyond the traditional smartphone cover by providing a small window to your screen that displays information like time, missed calls and text messages, and battery status.

The list of accessories, with suggested retail prices, includes:

  • S View flip cover – available in seven colors including Black Mist, White Frost, Light Blue, Pink, Green, Orange and Yellow, the S View flop cover provides a clear window so users can access information without waking their phone up ($59.55)

Google Glass Explorer Edition unboxing videos hit YouTube

As the beta versions, aka Explorer Edition, of Google Glass start to get into the hands of individuals, we are now treated to the first unboxing videos that have surfaced. There are actually two versions of the unboxing available. The first is the actual unboxing that was filmed with something running at a really low framerate, giving the video a very choppy look.  The second video then recreates the unboxing, but uses the new Google Glass device to record things. This gives us a look into what an unboxing videos will look like using Google Glass and you can see what kind of record quality is possible with the device. Hit the break to view the videos.

With some carriers already taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S 4, and Samsung officially announcing product availability later this month, U.S. Cellular has joined the fray competing for buyers today by opening their own pre-order page. Sure us average folk won’t be enjoying a pair of Google Glasses anytime soon, but it appears that certain individuals may get their chance to grab their sweaty mitts on one— that is, if you’re ballin’. A casual seller on online marketplace eBay claims to have in his possession a prized developer model that is now up for sale. As of now, there are a mere 38 bids— but the auction price is currently placed at a whopping $95,000. Sheesh.

Google probably won’t let this particular auction go too far considering the developer versions of the device were not intended for sale. But hey— here’s hoping the lucky winner will end up getting the glasses and being able to be just a little bit cooler than all of his or her friends for the time being.

Verizon getting the LG Optimus L3 as part of its prepaid lineup

As part of its prepaid lineup, Verizon may be bringing the LG Optimus L3 back as the LG Optimus Zone. At least that’s the information we are seeing from evleaks, which has a  pretty reliable track record. The smartphone will feature an 800MHz processor, 3.2-inch QVGA display, 800MHz processor, 3.15-megapixel camera and Gingerbread 2.3. Not the most interesting specs really, but with this being an older phone, I would venture to guess that this is probably going to happen. We don’t have anymore information then this, but rest assured as we hear it so will you.

Zopo C2 smartphone gets official, brings Aliyun OS for a low, low price

The Zopo C2 smartphone is officially official and on its way to the Chinese markets folks. The device comes jam-packed with features like a MediaTek MT6589 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM,a 5-inch 1080p display, a 2,000mAh battery and a nifty 13MP camera (with an astounding 5MP camera on the front). While there is certainly a sense of “here we go again”, the Zopo does feature something that most other smartphones don’t— the Aliyun OS running the show. Yep, that’s right— the C2 features the same OS featured on another smartphone that was abruptly cancelled at the last minute thanks to the heavy hand of Google.

No word on when the device will hit store shelves just yet, but it appears the C2 will run customers ¥1,399 (about $230 USD).

Samsung announces suite of accessories for Galaxy S4 along with pricing

We announced this morning the confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will arrive at seven U.S. carriers beginning in April. To go along with that chunk of news, Samsung also announced an entire suite of accessories for the Galaxy S4.

Prices vary from $29.99 to $99.99. We’re still not sure when they will be available, but we are hoping many will be released around the same time as the device. Cygnett GS3 WorkMate case review

WorkMate_GSIII_bannerWe’ve seen a growing number of hybrid cases as of late, incorporating both silicate-type materials and harder TPU materials together for slim protection. Cygnett took on the challenge of creating a great hybrid case for the GS3, and they called their creation the WorkMate. The outer layer of the WorkMate is made of a heavy-duty polycarbonate material, which encases a softer silicone inner layer that provides some flexibility. I enjoyed testing the WorkMate, and a few things stood out to me in particular.

IMG_20130413_140111It’s clear that Cygnett’s design team put a lot of thought and time into this case. There are several little things that really make a difference, starting with the materials. The solid polycarbonate offers a rigid, sturdy feel and reassures you that a mild drop isn’t going to do any damage. In addition, the silicone inner layer gives users a bit more of a grip, which further backs up the protection aspect. The two materials are combined seamlessly to form a case that’s strong, but not bulky.

IMG_20130413_140251Perhaps one of my favorite features of the WorkMate is actually quite subtle. Cygnett added small “legs” on the back of the case, so that it’s always slightly lifted from a flat surface. These legs are actually just cutouts in the polycarbonate, where the silicone can fit through and provide a bit of lift. It may not seem like much, but this is something that tons of other silicone-based cases are missing. Silicone attracts dirt and dust very easily, so raising the device just a tad prevents all that dusty buildup that we’ve all experienced. I never realized how much of a difference this one little change could make until now, and it’s a feature that many other case manufacturers would do well to pick up.

The cutouts for charging and headphone ports were nice and big, giving me no problems. The volume and power buttons were very easy to press, as they were covered by the silicone inner layer. The button covers were very well thought out, as both were concave in the middle. This gives off a much more natural feel when pressing the button, as your finger just sinks into it. Again, the little things like this make the WorkMate that much better.

The case itself is fairly slim, and hardly adds any weight to the device. This is probably due to the silicone, which weighs next to nothing. The WorkMate fits snugly onto the Galaxy S3, and once it’s on, it’s not going anywhere. That being said, I didn’t find any issue with getting the case on and off, especially considering it can be separated into two layers. It’s always nice to find a case that stays on when you want it to, but is still easy to slip off.

IMG_20130413_140226The back of the WorkMate is primarily covered by the polycarbonate material, which has a nice line pattern to complement the legs on the sides. There’s a good amount of grip to the case, which is actually mostly due to the polycarbonate that lines the sides. The silicone offers much more of a grip, but it only covers the top and bottom of the device. Most users (myself included) hold a device by the sides, so this baffled me at first. Still, the polycarbonate offers a surprising amount of grip on its own, and it’s only enhanced by the small legs on the back of the device.

Overall, I found the WorkMate to be outstanding in day-to-day usage. The drop protection is great, the materials give off an expensive feel, and it’s close to the top of the charts in terms of grip. Cygnett put time, effort, and serious consideration into this case, and it shows in so many ways. It’s definitely something I would recommend to a GS3 user looking for a flexible, protective case.

The WorkMate is available direct from Cygnett in slate grey and red for $29.99, along with a plethora of other awesome cases. Cygnett may not be the most well-known case company, but they’re certainly making some great products for mobile devices. Keep it up over there, guys.

T-Mobile offering Samsung Galaxy S4 on April 24

T-Mobile today confirmed the upcoming availability and pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S4. As rumored, the flagship smartphone arrives on April 24 and will be offered at up front cost of $149.99.  Of course this is for those who qualify for the Simple Choice Plan and will see the remaining balance spread out over 24 months.

Starting April 24, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 will be available for T-Mobile customers for $149.99 down with 24 equal monthly payments of $20 for well-qualified buyers for 0% APR O.A.C.

Easy Mode, which was first introduced on the Galaxy S III, has been enhanced to smooth the transition for first-time smartphone owners by simplifying the home screen layout, camera, calendar, messaging and the internet browser to make the settings menu easy to navigate.
