Seidio Active Kickstand Case for the Galaxy Note 2

A bit of that 'rugged' look with protection to match.

The Galaxy Note 2 is already and unapologetically large device, but if you don't mind making it just a touch larger you can pick up some serious protection and features with a new case. Today we're taking a look at the Seidio Active Kickstand case for the device, which gives a bit more ruggedness and better grip to the Galaxy Note 2, along with a kickstand to take advantage of that huge screen while out of the house.

Hang with us after the break where we give you a tour of the case and its features.

Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 heading to HTC One X in Europe
Aug 19th 2013, 13:40, by Robert Triggs

HTC One X Logo aa 1 1600

A few months ago we heard rumors that the HTC One X may receive one final update before HTC lays the device to rest, and just last week a similar update began rolling out for the One X+ in parts of Asia. Well the day has finally come, and HTC is indeed updating the One X to Android 4.2.2 and the latest version of Sense. However, the update appears to only be heading to Europe, so AT&Ts One X won't be receiving the same update.

The new version appears to be landing on the shores of northern and eastern parts of Europe first, with the rest of Europe set to follow over the coming hours and days.

The 4.18.401.2 update comes in at just under 380MB, bringing with it a few features that will be familiar to HTC One owners, such as the Blinkfeed home screen, Zeo HD video highlights, and the updated Camera application.

There's also news that the European version of the HTC One X+ will also receive a similar update, just like the one which has already landed in Taiwan, which will appear as version 2.18.401.2. Unfortunately there's no indication as to exactly when this update will be hitting the region, but hopefully it will be rolling out soon.

As always, remember to hit that manual check button if you haven’t received your update yet.

New Samsung smartphones with displays from 4 to 5.2 inches coming, report says

Samsung Logo

In addition to the Galaxy Note 3 flagship, which is expected to launch in the coming months in various markets, Samsung may already be working on new smartphone models with display sizes ranging from 4 to 5.2 inches.

Sam Mobile has tracked such unknown devices using a logistics website which has revealed details about alleged Galaxy Note 3 versions and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in the recent past.

These devices are the SM-G730A (4-inch display), SM-G3815 (4.5-inch display), SM-G9105 (5-inch display) and SM-G7102 (5.2-inch display). Actual commercial names for these devices aren’t available at this time.

The first two models have also been spotted in user agent profiles on Samsung's website, revealing their screen resolutions: 800 x 480 for the SM-G730A and 960 x 540 for the SM-G3815.

However, we have no details on what these smartphones are or when we'll see them in stores – the Zauba website does mention that these are all mobile phones (and are all for "testing & evaluation & not for retail sale).

For what it's worth, all these devices have apparently been shipped to South Korea for testing during August 12-17, of course, assuming the information is accurate, with some of them spotted in the system even earlier.

In fact, upon checking the Zauba listing (see Source link below), you’ll also notice a model number for a 4.3-inch mobile phone, the SM-G350.

That said, we surely expect Samsung to launch more smartphones in the future. After all, you don't get to sell the most smartphones in the world without making a Galaxy phone for every taste, which is what Samsung's policy has been for the past few years. Of course, in addition to Android, Samsung also sells Windows Phone smartphones and has some Tizen plans of its own, so it’ll be interesting to see whether these unnamed devices will all run Android or not.

Rumor: 12-inch Samsung tablet in the works, could arrive in October
Aug 19th 2013, 14:18, by Andrew Grush

Samsung Galaxy smartpad

In the smartphone world, picking up a handset with a massive display size seems to be the trendy thing to do. For tablets, it's the opposite story.

As 7 and 8-inch tablets continue to gain traction, the 10-inch form factor seems to be losing some of its steam. Does that mean that manufacturers are no longer interested in pushing the limits on tablet display size? Apparently not, as evidence continues to pile up suggesting that Samsung has a 12-inch Android tablet in the works.

We first heard about the possibility of a 12-inch (or 12.2-inch?) Android-powered Sammy tablet back in June, when Korean-based ET News reported that the massive tab would feature an impressive 2560 x 1600 resolution. Besides the resolution, all we knew at the time was that the tablet allegedly would arrive in the not-too-distant future.

Fast-forwarding a bit, we’ve now seen at least two reports that seemingly confirm the tablet's existence – and its resolution.

Even though a 12-inch tablet might not be welcome by the average Joe, it could certainly prove to be a popular device among certain professional and niche consumer circles.

Adding additional fuel to this rumor's flame, today we present a report claiming that not only is Samsung readying a 12-inch (or higher) Android tablet, it is also speculated that the tablet could arrive in October. The latest word comes from Korea Economic Daily, citing industry sources.

Beyond the tablet’s resolution and possible release timeframe, we really don't know much else about the device. We can tell you that some reports say that the tablet might end up as part of the Galaxy Note family, which would mean including a stylus of sorts.

Are rumors of a 12-inch Android tablet believable?

How likely are the rumors of a 12-plus-inch Samsung Android tablet? While speculation is certainly advised until we have more concrete information, we have to say that nothing we’ve heard about this tablet sounds terribly unbelievable.

Samsung seems more than willing to experiment with different sizes and form factors, and even though a 12-inch tablet might not be welcome by the average Joe, it could certainly prove to be a popular device among certain professional and niche consumer circles.

What do you think, would you be interested in a 12-inch tablet, or is the size just too large?

HTC One Max

Mystery blob under camera

There's most likely a month or so to go before HTC's 5.9-inch One Max becomes official, but we've already seen enough evidence to suggest that the phone is real, and coming soon. Today a fresh image has leaked out over on Taiwanese blog ePrice showing the Max alongside its smaller siblings, the HTC One and One Mini. And while it more or less confirms what we already know — specifically, that it'll look like an oversized HTC One — a couple of features on the device's back bear further investigation.

The first is the mysterious black blob under the camera. ePrice speculates that it could be some sort of fingerprint reader; it's also possible that it may be part of some IR-based communications feature, as previously seen on the Japanese HTC J One. Or it could be nothing more than a sticker placed over some identifying mark.

Look in the bottom right corner and you'll also spot three marks, which might be connectors for some kind of charging dock. Curiously, a controversial non-final render of the Max didn't include either of these two hardware characteristics.

In any case, there's a little longer to wait before we find out exactly which features will make it into the final HTC One Max hardware. In the meantime, share any theories down in the comments.

Samsung has at least four more smartphones slated for the coming weeks, according to a recently uncovered shipping manifest. Reportedly, the devices range from 4-inches to 5.2-inches and could run the gamut of low-end to higher-end.

Very little is known about these models, but here’s what has been pieced together thus far:

  • SM-G730A  has 4-inch display with 480×800 resolution
  • SM-G3815 has a 4.5-inch display with a 960×540 resolution
  • SM-G9105 has a 5-inch display
  • SM-G7102 has a 5.2-inch display

It’s not immediately clear when these models will be announced nor what markets are expected to carry the phones. IFA is in but a few weeks however we’re likely looking at one-off announcements and international availability or very select carrier support if released in United States.
