Posted: 10 Feb 2012 12:38 PM PST From just about the first moment we learned that Amazon was getting into the Android-based tablet game, we expected at least two devices. Initially we were looking to get a 7-inch "Coyote" model followed by a 10-inch, quad-core "Hollywood" shortly thereafter. Somewhere along the line, things got changed a bit and rumor had it that the 10-inch version was getting pushed back in favor of a mid-size edition. New details surfacing this week are adding weight to that claim as Pacific Crest analyst Chad Bartley tells us a 9-inch model is expected in mid-2012. Raising his 2012 forecast from 12.7 million shipped to 14.9 million units, Bartley wrote a note to his clients essentially confirming the medium-sized tablet. New report indicates Amazon has 8.9-inch Kindle Fire for mid-2012 originally appeared on AndroidGuys. "We believe there is an upward bias, particularly from the new 7- and 9-inch models, which we expect to launch in mid-2012," Chad BartleyAre any of you Kindle Fire owners looking for a larger display? Happy with yours so far or would you enjoy a couple more inches of Amazon tablet? Source: BGR Follow AndroidGuys on Facebook and Twitter and download the free AndroidGuys app for your device! |
Posted: 10 Feb 2012 09:20 AM PST Last year we saw a Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 announced shortly before MWC 2011. Now, right before MWC 2012, we see a leaked version of another Galaxy S Mini. Likely the successor to last years model, info regarding the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 S6500 has been leaked. Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 S6500 will be Announced at MWC 2012 originally appeared on AndroidGuys. I'll just come out and say this up front, I am not a fan of these low-end handsets. My personal opinion includes the idea that these devices give Android a bad name. I won't bore you with any more of my cynical viewpoint, so lets talk about device specs. This latest model is definitely an upgrade from last years model, but is quite under powered for a device being announced in 2012. As you can see no HSPA+ and a 3MP camera make it the same as last years model. Sporting a larger screen than the original, we'll see a 3.3" HVGA display and a 800mhz single core CPU. Maybe you've noticed, i'm not impressed. I can't imagine using a large event like MWC 2012 to announce a device like this, but we should hear more in the coming weeks as the conference kicks off. Posted: 10 Feb 2012 08:43 AM PST MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2012 starts on February 27th in Barcelona. Quite a few rumors about what we're going to see from LG have been floating around for weeks now. We've seen a couple new devices pass through certifications and it's almost time for these rumors to become reality. Perhaps the LG-X3 will be announced? MWC 2012 Media Preview: LG Revolutionary Smartphones originally appeared on AndroidGuys. Regardless, LG has us convinced its going to be an epic and maybe even "revolutionary" presentation. I've personally never met someone with an LG device that was as excited as LG is at themselves. Who knows, maybe this time they will surprise us? Posted: 10 Feb 2012 08:12 AM PST The popular check-in application for Android known as Foursquare has received a new update which allows for NFC support. Designed with Android 4.0 in mind, the chief feature in the v2012.02.08 release is support for Android Beam in the Venue, Lists and Me pages. Should you want to check-in via NFC, share your recently visited spots, or personal details, you'll be able to tap two devices together. Of course, given the limited number of devices powered by Ice Cream Sandwich or built with an NFC chip, the software is ahead of the hardware. Posted: 10 Feb 2012 07:46 AM PST Another new HTC handset has been found online, leading some to suspect the Incredible S successor is nearing its release. Bearing a similar form factor to Verizon's Droid Incredible 2, it has the contoured battery that we've come to know over the last few years. New HTC handset found with Android 4.0, LTE support originally appeared on AndroidGuys. Early details include Android 4.0.1 with HTC's Sense 40 UI, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, and front-facing VGA camera. It would not surprise us to learn that the chipset is Qualcomm's next-generation S4 chipset. Additional specifications for the unannounced model include an AMOLED display, Beats Audio technology, and 4G LTE support. As to the name of the device, it's possible that it could be an Incredible "X" with "X" being whatever suffix HTC chooses this year. On the other hand, the HTC Fireball is a name being suggested by Phone Arena. It's too early to say for certain but we assume that HTC would offer this smartphone across multiple markets and carriers, much like it has for the Incredible S. Given that this is the first we've heard or seen this new model it stands to reason that this may not make the trip to Barcelona later this month. Instead, we may see the phone come to CTIA later in May of this year. Phone Arena speculates that we could be looking at the DROID Incredible 3 or the mysterious HTC Fireball, but we have a feeling the phone will be the base design for the successor to last year's HTC Incredible S which could morph into a variety of different phones for various carriers. Be sure to check out PhoneArena's full gallery of photos as there are ten in total. Follow AndroidGuys on Facebook and Twitter and download the free AndroidGuys app for your device! |
