Leaked T-Mobile docs give ICS update schedule for Sensation 4G, Galaxy S II, and Amaze 4G Posted: 27 Apr 2012 04:40 PM PDT TmoNews got their hands on a leaked enterprise calendar from T-Mobile corporate, and tucked in the rest of the news was the proposed dates for the Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S II, the HTC Sensation 4G, and the HTC Amaze 4G. I won't tease:
Of course things like this are subject to change, but the time frame sounds about right. Be on the lookout for ROMs to leak, we sure will be. Source: TmoNews

Ask AC: HTC One S voice mail notification issue Posted: 27 Apr 2012 03:45 PM PDT Ingram1225 asks in the HTC One S forums,
As Ingram1225 mentioned, this is a quirk on a lot of HTC Android phones, and not particular to the One S. When you activate or put your SIM in a new HTC Sense phone, sometimes you get a voice mail notification. It happens seemingly at random, and nobody is 100-percent sure how to prevent it. Good thing it's easy to fix! Grab another phone, it could be a landline, another cell phone, or even a call from Google Talk, and call your number. Don't answer it, you need to let it go to voicemail. When it does, leave a message. Now go back to your phone with the stuck voice mail notification. You should now have two voice mails showing, the "stuck" one and the real one you just left. Call your voice mail service from your HTC Sense phone, and listen to and delete the new message. That should fix your problem, and you're good to go until you get another new HTC phone. Have a question you need answered? (Preferably about Android, but we're flexible.) Software patch coming to T-Mobile HTC One S to address Wifi calling battery drain Posted: 27 Apr 2012 01:39 PM PDT HTC and T-Mobile have a fix in the works to address the battery drain issues while the HTC One S is using Wifi calling. There's no real detail about what the issue is, but AC member venious, who has been using the One S since Day 1, thinks that while on a call using the Wifi calling feature, the battery is drained more than normal. So far, battery life has not been a major concern across the various Internet forums for the device. Wifi calling is a big draw for many (including yours truly) and it's great to see any issues identified so quickly. While we have no word on when to expect any software patch, this being one of HTC's (and T-Mobile's) flagship phones means they should be prioritizing any fix. We'll all keep an eye out for it. In the meantime, we're talking all about the things we love, the things we don't, and the lust we have for this one in the One S forums -- jump in and join us! LG Optimus True HD LTE heading for more markets in Europe and Asia Posted: 27 Apr 2012 01:14 PM PDT LG has announced that it is taking the Optimus True HD LTE (nee the Optimus LTE) and its beautiful screen into more markets worldwide, specifically Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Hong Kong and Singapore. Known here in the U.S. as the LG Nitro HD, the 4.5-inch smartphone packs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8MP camera, and of course the amazing True IPS HD 1280 x 720 display offers up quite an impressive package. LG is also a major player in the LTE game. They hold the most LTE patents, held the first ever demonstration of LTE capabilities in 2007, and developed the first LTE modem in 2008. They're in for the long haul, and understand that high-speed data on-demand is the future of mobile. But according to Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, "LTE isn’t just about the network and that all LTE phones are not alike". With the Optimus True HD LTE LG is showcasing the phone as well as the network. Anndrew seemed to think they have something a little special here while reviewing the Nitro HD, so maybe they are right. No word on when to expect this one on the shelf, but LG tends to move quickly so keep an eye out. |
[NSFW-L] Who needs Android? Well, somebody needs something here ... Posted: 27 Apr 2012 12:26 PM PDT We have no words. If you're offended by coarse language, don't watch the video after the break. No complaining. You've been warned. Windows Phone, this guy's all yours. Via @daniel_rubino |
HTC One X case: Clear hard shell gets some forum love Posted: 27 Apr 2012 11:14 AM PDT We know, we know. You folks are chomping at the bit -- especially here in the U.S. -- to get your hands on an HTC One X. (We've still got a couple weeks before it drops on AT&T here.) But for the moment, let's talk about the HTC One X case. We've already given you a little preview of HTC's own slim case. (Actually, that's us calling it a "slim case." HTC didn't even have a name for it yet when we saw it last week.) It's a really thin plastic deal that snaps onto the phone, offering some pretty basic protection. We've seen two versions -- one with a series of circles, and another that kind of looks like window blinds. The idea was that HTC didn't want to break up the underlying look and feel of the device. But while the cases certainly are slim (and they do fit very nicely), the designs are a bit on the extreme side. We'll just have to see how popular they are when they're finally made available. (And, no, we don't know when that will be.) And we've done a full-blown review of the HTC One X Hard Shell Case with a flip stand. But now we're getting another look at a new case -- and one that definitely lets the design of the phone shine through. Chrisjcks has posted a series of pics in our HTC One X forums showing the phone in the official HTC clear hard shell case. No crazy designs this time, just some pretty basic protection that still lets the polycarbonate shell of the phone show through. One piece of bad news is that it looks like the charging contacts are covered, which means you'll need to remove the case to use the phone in one of HTC's docks. (The crazy-designed cases we played with last week will actually work with the docks -- no removal required.) Check out more pics and full rundown in our HTC One X forums! |

Sony ST21i 'Tapioca' spotted, Xperia Sola gets a little brother Posted: 27 Apr 2012 07:31 AM PDT We've seen references to a budget-oriented Sony phone codenamed "Tapioca" before, but until now the device itself has remained a mystery. Things are becoming a little clearer today, however, with the first leaked images of the phone showing up on Greek site Techblog. Rumored specs, included along with the photos, include a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, an 800MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. Interestingly for a budget device, the Tapioca is said to run Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, so it looks like Sony's had no trouble packing ICS onto lower-end hardware. The front of the device is the spitting image of the Xperia Sola, a mid-range Sony handset that made waves shortly after MWC due to its "floating touch" tech. Given the Tapioca's budget leanings, though, we'd be surprised to see floating touch lurking inside this device. No pricing or availability details are provided along with today's leak, but an earlier roadmap suggests it'll hit in July around the €150 mark. Source: Techblog; via: Xperia Blog |

Freshly leaked 'Galaxy S3' photo seems to confirm earlier images Posted: 27 Apr 2012 04:12 AM PDT We've averaged at least one Galaxy S3 rumor or leak per day over the past week, and it's a trend that shows no sign of stopping. Today UK blogs PhoneArena and KnowYourMobile both received a new photo purporting to show the Samsung Galaxy S3, and from what we can tell of the (admittedly grainy) image, it's a very close match to what we've seen in earlier leaks. The rounded edges closely resemble the outline in a teaser image by Samsung Denmark, and the device chassis itself is a dead ringer for a purported manual sketch that cropped up yesterday. The inclusion of physical buttons is the most interesting thing we can glean from this latest image -- if this is indeed the final Galaxy S3 design, then it seems earlier plans to go buttonless were abandoned. And it's also worth noting the extremely thin bezel between the screen and the edge of the device -- Samsung seems to have shaved a few millimeters off this space compared to the Galaxy Nexus. With the clock ticking down to the May 3 announcement event in London, it's possible we'll see even more leaks and speculation in the days ahead. Keep it locked to AC for all the latest.
