Groundbreaking "OnLive Desktop" App Released for Android Tablets OnLive Desktop App available immediately in Android Market Free OnLive Desktop Service offers Full Microsoft® Office and Adobe® Reader® from the cloud OnLive Desktop Plus brings gigabit-speed accelerated browsing Palo Alto, CA – March 1, 2012 – OnLive, Inc., the pioneer of instant-action cloud computing, is pleased to announce that its revolutionary OnLive™ Desktop App is now available for Android® tablets, bringing full Microsoft® Office apps, Adobe® Reader® and, with the OnLive Desktop Plus service, gigabit-speed1 accelerated browsing regardless of the tablet's local Internet speed and local computing capability. The free OnLive Desktop App, released in the Android Market to select Android tablets2, delivers no-compromise, media-rich, instant-response Windows® applications including Microsoft® Word, Excel® and PowerPoint® software and Adobe Reader for PDFs, along with 2GB of cloud storage. OnLive Desktop Plus, available for $4.99/month at www.desktop.onlive.com, provides all OnLive Desktop Standard features plus OnLive's gigabit-speed accelerated browsing experience. Already available on iPad® and coming soon to smartphones, PC, Mac®, TVs and monitors, OnLive Desktop delivers instant access to your personal desktop on all devices, so that if you use OnLive Desktop on Android, and then later use it on iPad, you will have the same files and browser Favorites (with OnLive Desktop Plus) on both tablets, with automatically-adjusted screen resolution.Running remotely on powerful PCs in the cloud that are connected by Gigabit Ethernet to the Internet, OnLive Desktop utilizes OnLive's patented instant-action cloud gaming technology to deliver a seamless PC application and Web experience, instantly responsive to multi-touch gestures, as well as a full PC on-screen keyboard, handwriting recognition and optional Bluetooth® PC-compatible keyboard or mouse. "Android tablets are a great platform for OnLive Desktop," said Steve Perlman, OnLive Founder and CEO. "With full HD resolution, PC keyboard/mouse support and available 4G LTE, Android tablets deliver an excellent experience with full Microsoft Office and Adobe Reader PC applications, not to mention gigabit-accelerated browsing through OnLive Desktop Plus—even over 4G LTE." OnLive Desktop Plus brings the world's fastest browsing experience, whether over Wi-Fi- or 4G LTE-connected Android tablets. Regardless of your local connection speed, even the most complex websites—including ones that would take minutes to load over your local connection—load in seconds, instantly delivering fully interactive animation, video and sound. A 50 megabyte file from cloud storage (e.g., Dropbox) or a 15 megabyte attachment from Web email (e.g., Gmail™, Yahoo!® Mail, etc.) can literally download or upload in less than a second, resulting in an utterly transformative Web experience. And, despite the astounding speed improvement, OnLive Desktop Plus can dramatically reduce Web browsing data usage, since only the top layer of the currently visible part of a website is ever sent over the local connection. Essentially, OnLive Desktop delivers only what you can see or hear at a given moment, potentially reducing data usage by a factor of 10 or more. The free OnLive Desktop app is available for select Android tablets and iPad now in the United States. Smartphones, PC, Mac and monitor/TV support (via the OnLive MicroConsole™ thin client with Bluetooth keyboard/mouse) are coming soon—with your same OnLive Desktop available by login from any device. Support for the United Kingdom and other countries is coming soon. OnLive Desktop can be accessed anywhere, on any device, at any screen resolution, preserving application and browser files between devices. Posted: 01 Mar 2012 12:10 PM PST AT&T today confirmed exactly where it is that they will reduce data speeds for their unlimited data plans. In a statement provided to CNET, the carrier advised that 3G users will see a slowdown (throttle) at 3GB of data usage whereas 4G LTE subscribers get 5GB before reduction. Those users who are on a plan with a set amount of data will not incur any throttling. Some of you may recall the recent news of AT&T found to be slowing data connection for unlimited plan users after only 2GB of consumption. While the carrier was quick to say that there was no specific point in which speeds would be reduced, they reconfirmed that it was those top 5% users who would be affected. The reason reduced speeds only apply to unlimited smartphone customers is because their data usage is significantly higher than those on tiered plans. For example, in January, the top 5 percent of our unlimited data plan customers used an average of over 50 percent more data than the top 5 percent of customers on tiered plans.AT&T reminds us that users 95% of their unlimited users won't see any difference in performance and that everything resets at the start of a new billing cycle. Posted: 01 Mar 2012 11:43 AM PST The official Major League Baseball application has reported for spring training this week, just as pitchers and catchers are doing for your favorite club. Arriving in the standard two versions, MLB.com At Bat 12 is far and away one of the best sports apps you can install for your Android smartphone or tablet. The first thing we noticed, and fell in love with, was the tablet-friendly layout this time around. Now we don't have to take our tablet out of a dock just to check the scores from around the league. We were also pleased with the full-on love for spring training this year as the app gives fans a ton of information including batter-by-batter action and live broadcasts of games. According to MLB.com there will be at least one major update before Opening Night (April 4) which will add new features and functions. Among the features available for Spring Training are:

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 08:32 AM PST A software update has been issued for the Google Wallet Android application this week and includes "core Wallet system fixes" among the notes. Unfortunately the reviews for this 1.1-R52v7 release indicate that prepaid card issues are still plaguing the app and users are still unable to add a new card or retrieve data from existing cards. Let's hope that this issue is resolved with a quick update to the update. Google Wallet app gets update includes “core system fixes” originally appeared on AndroidGuys. With Sprint expecting to roll Wallet support out to at least ten more devices this year, Google will want to make sure that everything works well as soon as possible. As many of you know, Google Wallet has seen its share of problems of late and has been found to be susceptible to hacking and workarounds. What's in this version:

Posted: 01 Mar 2012 08:03 AM PST Vice president of Google Wallet and Payments, Osama Bedier, indicated this week that Sprint Nextel plans to expand Google Wallet support across "at least 10 additional phones" this, starting with the LG Viper. Although Google is still in discussions with other carriers and hardware manufacturers, Sprint looks to be the premier partner for the next-generation commerce solution for the time being. Google Wallet expanding to 10 additional Sprint devices in 2012 originally appeared on AndroidGuys. According to Bedier, there are tens of thousands of transaction terminal with Wallet support being added to the network on a monthly basis and that adoption is highest in convenience stores and fast food restaurants. As of today there are twenty-two major retail chains set up to handle the NFC payment alternative, including Jamba Juice, American Eagle, OfficeMax and Foot Locker. Things will certainly get interesting as the year unfolds as Isis comes to market with its NFC payment solution. With AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile set to offer Isis transaction capability from a number of handset makers, it stands to reason that Google Wallet may be fighting an uphill battle by this time next year. Will Sprint and Google be able to fend off a barrage of attacks from nearly every other angle? And really, does it matter to Google in the end? Posted: 01 Mar 2012 06:30 AM PST Later this year, Verizon will be offering family data plans, which should help heavy data users by bringing multiple caps under one umbrella. Of course, this also has the potential to screw some people out of data usage, depending on how they implement it. We shall simply have to see. At an investor conference, Verizon CTO Fran Shammo spoke of the plans and Verizon's extensive research into the data plans, and their approach in handling them. Shammo stated that (it's) a very complex equation because we have to make sure that it's good for Verizon and it's also good for our customer. It's important to realize that the day we launch this account billing, everybody won't be migrating to the account billing day one. This is going to be a long-term migration into where we want to get data plan sharing, but this will be more of a 4G play.Given that it's a focus on 4G, there's a possibility that some sort of LTE inclusion will be mandatory, but of course we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully this will be beneficial to everyone, and not a shady ploy to make more money by shivving their customers. So, Verizon customers, sound off! What do you think about this development? Positive or negative? Let us know in the comments! Source PhoneScoop Follow AndroidGuys on Facebook and Twitter and download the free AndroidGuys app for your device! Posted: 01 Mar 2012 06:00 AM PST In the tech race, it's generally numbers that the various manufacturers strive for. Whether it be more megapixels or a wider screen, the general rule is the bigger, the better. Now we have quad-cores on the horizon, and Sony isn't convinced, at least according to Stephen Sneeden, product marketing manager for Sony Mobile. In a conversation with CNET Asia at MWC, Sneeden had this to say about quad-core processors: We're going to join quad-core when we feel that the performance matches the battery efficiency. Because right now we don't feel that is there. What we are going to be doing in the second half of the year is moving to the Cortex A15 architecture, which we feel outperforms the current quad-core architecture. He continued with, "You'll see in 2013, as we're evaluating the quad-core performance where it makes sense, where you're not suffering in quality and the performance truly is there, and there really is something that demanding applications need. That's when we make the right move to quad-core." It's good to see Sony not playing the numbers game, and instead focusing on a quality product. Kudos to them. So do you agree with Sony's decision? Posted: 29 Feb 2012 07:00 PM PST So now that we know Android 5.0 a.k.a Jelly Bean is in the pipeline, and hopefully launching this fall, without any doubts, a new smartphone or a tablet will debut it. Let's assume it's a smartphone. Before the launch of ICS, there were rumors that HTC and LG were also favorites for the next Nexus device, but in the end Samsung got lucky (again). This time around, it seems that HTC is still trying their best to manufacture the next Nexus device. HTC's Jeff Gordon gave a statement to TechRadar, saying that
TechRadar has since pulled the article for some reason. If we look at history, HTC manufactured first ever Android device, the G1, and we couldn't forget the killer Nexus One. If HTC does land the next iteration of the Nexus line, we'll certainly be happy campers. We want to know what do you think. Who do you want to make the next Nexus device? Samsung? HTC? Posted: 29 Feb 2012 06:25 PM PST Much hoopla has been made over the magical synergistic qualities of NFC, from payment options to data transfer on Google's Android 4.0 ICS. ZigBee might be new to most people, but it's basically a much more advanced and efficient wireless network than anything currently in place, using a whole lot less battery than the traditionally used WiFi. TazTag, a French wireless tech manufacturer, has announced that they are going to be unveiling the TPH-ONE, the very first phone to have both of these technologies built in. The company hopes that the new device will be an example of the capabilities of both NFC and ZigBee. The TPH-ONE will be available in March for demos, and is available now for pre-order with a set delivery for April. With that being said, is anyone interested in the TazTag? Posted: 29 Feb 2012 05:50 PM PST Qualcomm has always been known for excelling in mobile processor design, both in performance and efficiency. The S4, being their latest iteration, was no exception, competing aggressively against rival processors and garnering respect from the media and business from manufacturers. Not content to rest on their laurels, Qualcomm has announced a "Pro" variant to the S4 line, a moniker addition that brings with it a newer and much beefier GPU. The Adreno 320 is four times more powerful than the one found in the original S4, and makes the S4 Pro exponentially more adept at media and game handling. While Qualcomm hasn't released any video yet of the new processor in action, we'll certainly keep our eyes peeled. With Intel jumping into the Android world, and NVIDIA domination with Tegra 3, the battle of the processors this year should be epic. The full press release from Qualcomm can be found below below. So, who do you think will be the top processor manufacturer this year? Let us know in the comments!
