Posted: 26 Feb 2012 03:03 PM PST After RIM pushed out their 2.0 update for the Playbook, Android apps were suddenly available on the platform through their Android Player. The company is even giving out free Playbooks to Android developers who port their apps over. Playbook users, once upgraded to 2.0, started downloading the Android-based Dolphin HD Browser from Blackberry App World as a better replacement to the stock browser. Interestingly, though, the makers of the Dolphin browser, MoboTap, did not authorize their browser to be added to RIM’s app marketplace. So how did it get there? Apparently it was submitted by white label store Handster, now owned by Opera. Handster has already stated they would help app developers get their apps into Blackberry App World, but it’s interesting that they would do so without contacting the developers. A MoboTap spokesperson stated ”We do not condone Handster submitting our Dolphin Browser app to BlackBerry’s App World for us and are currently working to take it down and assure Handster will not submit our app for us again. We will assess developing for BlackBerry when the time is right.” Dolphin has already been removed from Blackberry’s App World, but is Handster still pushing other apps without contacting the devs? Let’s hope this was a one-time gaff. source: engadget Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Amazing Camera With ImageSense, HTC One X’s 8MP HD camera rivals traditional digital cameras with improvements to every part of the camera including the lens, sensor and software, while integrating the new HTC ImageChip. The combination reduces noise, removes color bias and enhances picture quality in photos and videos. More than just megapixels, its best-in-class f-2.0 lens with a backside illuminated sensor takes amazing pictures in low light and its quick launch feature makes sure you never miss an important moment. It takes less than one second to launch the camera from the lock screen and the camera’s autofocus locks in on your subject in under a second, to take nearly unlimited continuous shots simply by holding the shutter button. To ensure the best shot is captured, HTC ImageSense also introduces autoburst which will automatically take a burst of shots if the subject moves while you press the shutter button. For those torn between whether a moment would be better captured via video or in photos, HTC One X includes Video Pic so you never have to choose again – the device can capture pictures while recording video in HD and has the ability to capture a still image from previously recorded video. A high dynamic range (HDR) feature presents more contrast in captured photos and enables the camera to capture multiple photos from one instance, each with a different exposure level, layering the images together to create a single photo that combines the best parts of each for a more accurate range of light across the image. The 1080p HD video camera automatically removes jitters and lets you lock the focus on a moving object. Slow motion video recording is also possible at a maximum of 108 frames per second. The HTC One X smartphone’s next-generation 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) S4 dual-core processor allows customers to run heavy duty tasks such as creating and editing homemade videos smoothly without any lag, while the 1,800 mAh embedded battery offers hours of uninterrupted entertainment time. HTC Sense 4 HTC One X will be one of the first devices in the U.S. with the simple and intuitive HTC Sense 4 user experience. It helps make the Beats Audio experience possible while listening to any audio component and features camera enhancements including a quick launch feature for the camera on the HTC One X – dramatically cutting down the time needed to move from the lock screen to snapping a picture. Quotes “Of course HTC One X is an outstanding device with the hottest specs,” said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “This device takes the power of those parts and creates a customer experience like no other, bringing superior hardware and sights and sounds to life.” “HTC One X is a true showcase for HTC’s heritage of innovation providing our fastest camera, our best images even in the worst conditions and the ability to take video and photos at the same time,” said Jason Mackenzie, president, global sales and marketing, HTC Corporation. “I’m proud to bring these remarkable new experiences to AT&T customers with the HTC One X.” Limited 4G LTE availability in select markets. 4G speeds delivered by LTE, or HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul, where available. Posted: 26 Feb 2012 02:05 PM PST Well we’ve been inundating you with article after article about the HTC One X, One S, and One V. Originally the One X and One S came to us as the HTC Edge and Ville back in the day but they got rebranded. Well MWC is upon us and with it finally an official announcement from HTC regarding these new devices. The One Series as they are being dubbed will feature Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC’s Sense 4.0. This new version of Sense brings with it a newly branded user experience that introduces HTC ImageSense (TM). It’s a new suite of camera and imaging features that will set the HTC One apart from other devices. It will also include broad enhancements to audio quality (read Beats Audio) that also simplifies how people listen to music on their devices. Each of the devices will rock the following: The One X will feature a beautifully crafted polycarbonate unibody. It will have the ruggedness of metal but is lightweight and has a high gloss ‘piano’ finish with a matte back. It will come with a Tegra 3 1.5GHz Super 4-PLUS-1 quad-core processor. It will come with a 4.7-inch, 720p HD screen of curved Gorilla Glass. It will also be on select 4G LTE markets with a LTE-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual-core CPUs. The One S is designed for those who want the high-end experience but in a smaller size. It’s powered by the Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It will feature the same unibody styling as the One X but at a thin 7.9-mm design. It will feature a 4.3-inch Gorilla Glass screen. The design has a ultra-matte black Ceramic Metal surface from a microarc oxidation (MAO) originally developed for use in satellites. This gives the unibody a super-dense crystalline structure that is four times harder than anodized aluminum which affords the phone the same look over time. The other finish includes a new patented process that creates a light-to-dark gradient fade that “looks gorgeous and sophisticated.” HTC One V:The One V utilizes the classic, award-winning design of the HTC Legend. It will offer a 3.7-inch display, a 1.0 GHZ (probably dual-core), 1GB of RAM, and a 5MP rear camera. It will also offer a premium experience with an amazing camera and authentic sound. It will have an iconic aluminum unibody. HTC ImageSense: The HTC One Series will take traditional digital cameras a step further with improvements to the lends, sensor, and software. It will also integrate a new custom HTC ImageChip. The enhancements will come together to deliver fast image captures that also boast the best image quality under adverse conditions. This is done all through a easy to use interface that enables a quick access to capturing stills and videos with side-by-side capture buttons. This camera experience will have the following.
The One Series of phones will have Dropbox integration in Sense with 25GB of free Dropbox storage for two years. You will also be able to share all sorts of media with your family, friends or colleagues thanks to HTC’s wireless Media Link HD* accessory through a TV’s HDMI port. They will all come with Beats Audio onboard as well. They will begin shipping in April with broad global availability through more than 140 mobile operators and distributors. You can hit the press release below to get the full details and you can pre-register for more information on the HTC One Series at htc.com. Stick around for more news, annoucements, and releases as MWC 2012 continues. Stay tuned! Press Release: “The best moments in life are captured with a photo or remembered by a song, so it was key for the HTC One series to improve these emotional experiences with an amazing camera and authentic sound experience,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “We are very focused on creating a camera and audio experience customers will love and use often and we believe the HTC One series delivers this in a way never seen on a phone before.” With HTC’s most premium experience, the HTC One series integrates Android 4.0 (ICS) with HTC Sense(TM) 4, the new version of HTC’s branded user experience that is introducing HTC ImageSense(TM), a new suite of camera and imaging features that set HTC One apart from other phones. HTC Sense 4 also includes broad enhancements to audio quality and simplifies how people listen to music on their phone. Amazing Camera With ImageSense HTC One rivals traditional digital cameras with improvements to every part of the camera, including the lens, the sensor, the software, and even integrating a new custom HTC ImageChip. These enhancements combine to deliver our fastest image capture, best image quality under adverse conditions and easiest interface that enables quick access to capturing stills and videos with side-by-side photo and video capture buttons. Superfast Capture – HTC One dramatically reduces the time it takes to capture those key moments. In just 0.7 seconds you’re able to take a shot, and with a new superfast 0.2-seconds autofocus, continue to take nearly unlimited continuous shots simply by holding the shutter button. Good photos in adverse conditions – HTC One delivers dramatic enhancements in image capture quality even in adverse conditions such as low light, no light or with bright backlighting. The f/2.0 lens on the HTC One X and HTC One S offers best-in-class performance, capturing 40 percent more light than the f/2.4 lenses available on other high-end phones. HTC One also includes HDR, a market-leading technology, for taking great photos even when there are varying levels of brightness. Video Pic (Concurrent Video/Still Capture) – With Video Pic you capture a photo and shoot video at the same time. Now, while you’re shooting HD video, all you have to do is tap the shutter button and it snaps a high-resolution still photo while the video continues to shoot. You are also able to capture a photo frame from a previously recorded video. Dropbox integrated with HTC Sense – HTC One gives you an easy way to save and share your photos and videos. HTC has integrated Dropbox into HTC Sense 4 enabling HTC One customers to get 25 gigabytes of free Dropbox space for two years. That’s enough to keep more than 10,000 high-quality photos. Dropbox is also integrated throughout HTC Sense 4, so it’s easy to edit, save and share your documents and other kinds of files. Sharing your photos and more – HTC One gives you a new way to share your photos and videos. When you plug in HTC’s wireless Media Link HD* accessory into your TV’s HDMI port, you can easily share your photos, videos, or anything else on your phone with your friends, family or colleagues regardless of the television’s brand as long as it has HDMI. Authentic Sound With HTC One, Beats By Dr. DreAudio(TM) integration is enabled for the first time across the entire experience for richer, more authentic sound whether you’re listening to your favorite music, watching a YouTube(TM) video or playing a game. HTC One also makes it easy to get and listen to your music on your phone with the built-in HTC Sync Manager software that automatically installs to your computer when connected. Once connected, it is easy to transfer songs, artists and playlists from your music library. Of course, people today no longer just listen to the songs stored on their phones; they use streaming services and tune into Internet radio. So HTC One lets you customize the new Music Hub with your favorite services and music applications, like the latest Soundhound technology, giving you one place to go for all of your music. HTC One lets you take all of your music anywhere, including the car. With HTC One, you get an easy way to bring your mobile music to your car’s sound system with the HTC Car Stereo Clip*. It also lets you connect to your music through more than 50 thousand online radio stations worldwide or play music from any service or app on your phone through your car speakers. All this makes HTC One the one place to enjoy all your music, wherever you are, with the power of Beats By Dr. DreAudio and HTC Car. HTC One X The HTC One X features a beautifully crafted polycarbonate unibody that has the ruggedness of metal but is super lightweight. With seamless construction, the unibody combines a unique high gloss ‘piano’ finish and a matte back. HTC One is blazing fast with the new NVIDIA® Tegra 3 Mobile Processor for clear graphics, faster applications and longer battery life. It includes a 1.5GHz Super 4-PLUS-1(TM) quad-core with an integrated fifth Battery Saver Core and a high-performance 12-Core NVIDIA® GPU. The HTC One also has an amazing 4.7-inch, 720p HD screen crafted from contoured Corning(TM) Gorilla Glass. HTC One X will also be available in select 4G LTE markets with a LTE-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon S4(TM) processor with up to 1.5GHz dual-core CPU’s. HTC One S The HTC One S is for people who want a high-end smartphone in a more compact size. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with up to 1.5GHz dual-core CPU’s. It also includes a 4.3-inch screen crafted from contoured Corning(TM) Gorilla Glass. HTC One S brings HTC’s innovative metal unibody styling to a new thin 7.9-mm design, making it HTC’s thinnest phone yet. The HTC One S sports two new finishes that break new ground in mobile phone innovation. The first is an ultra-matte black Ceramic Metal surface that is the result of a microarc oxidation (MAO) process originally developed for use in satellites. It transforms the surface of the aluminum unibody into a ceramic, super-dense crystalline structure that is four times harder than anodized aluminum, enabling the HTC One S to look great over time. The second finish for the One S takes anodizing to a new level with a new patented process that creates a light-to-dark gradient fade that looks gorgeous and sophisticated. HTC One V Utilizing the classic, award-winning design of the HTC Legend, the HTC One V brings top-end design to a smartphone with broad appeal and a premium experience that delivers an amazing camera and authentic sound. Posted: 26 Feb 2012 12:31 PM PST We just heard about LG’s announcement of the “L-trio” recently, but now that MWC is here, it’s time to see more details of the three newest additions to the Optimus line: the Optimus L3, Optimus L5 and Optimus L7. Let’s start with the Optimus L3. It’s an entry-level smartphone featuring a 3.2-inch screen, 800MHz processor, 3MP camera, 1500mAh battery and Gingerbread 2.3. The next in line is the Optimus L5. It’s a mid-level phone featuring a 4-inch screen with a “floating mass display”, 5MP camera, NFC capabilities and oh— Android 4.0 pre-installed. The final part of the trio is the crown jewel: the Optimus L7. This is a premium phone featuring a 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch screen with a “floating mass display”, 5MP camera with LED flash and Android 4.0 as well. The trio are expected to go on sale in Europe at some point during the first half of 2012, but no word on if/when it will be released here in the States. There’s also no word on the pricing as well, but considering the specs aren’t exactly breathtaking, we’d expect each device to be reasonably priced so it doesn’t hurt your wallet and pocketbooks too much.
