Cincinnati Bell picks up the HTC One S, launches June 25 for $199 Posted: 15 Jun 2012 01:49 PM PDT Regional US carrier Cincinnati Bell will be getting a bit of HTC One series love with the release of the HTC One S. Cinci will be launching the lineups middle child on June 25th for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Their version will be identical to the handset as we have seen it on other carriers, down to the 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and HTC Sense 4 UI with its enhanced ImageSense capabilities. The full press release is below containing all the details.

Canada’s wait for the Galaxy S III extended as ‘unprecedented demand’ pushes release back to June 27 Posted: 15 Jun 2012 01:12 PM PDT A June 20th launch date that was to see the Samsung Galaxy S III released on Canadian carriers including TELUS, Bell, Rogers, SaskTel,Virgin Mobile, and more can be erased from the calendar, as the Korean mobile giant has informed Canada-centric tech blog MobileSyrup of release delays. Samsung is chalking up the delay, which pushes the phone’s release back to June 27th, to “unprecedented global demand,” but we have to wonder if other factors such as issues with the device’s Pebble Blue finish are to blame. The announcement also raises the question as to whether or not release dates south of the Canadian border might be affected. Apparent delays in Verizon’s ship date of the device suggest this may be the case. Or perhaps Canada is getting the short end of the stick as production is focused on churning out more GS3 units for the US launch of the highly-anticpated smartphone. Reports of Snapdragon S4 component shortages could also be to blame. All speculation on how this announcement affects the US launch of the Galaxy S III aside, Canadians with the phone on pre-order will now have the pleasure of waiting out another week before finally being able to get their hands on the device of their dreams. Verizon approves HTC Droid Incredible 2 update to fix picture download bug Posted: 15 Jun 2012 01:01 PM PDT Having trouble downloading images form social networks on your HTC Droid Incredible 2? Verizon just approved an update that will provide a fix. Yep, software version 6.01.605.05 710RD won’t bring Ice Cream Sandwich levels of change to your device, but at least you will be able to properly view photos on Facebook, right? The 32MB update also enables the DINC2′s wireless alerting system, for what it’s worth. Verizon has posted the small changelog to their support site, which means the actual rollout of the update shouldn’t be too far off. [via DroidLife] |
Samsung’s next-gen stylus could double as a headset Posted: 15 Jun 2012 11:17 AM PDT A recently uncovered patent filing from Samsung could give us a clue as to where the company wants to take their recent stylus obsession in the future. Thanks to devices like the Galaxy Note, the digital pen as an input device is making a bit of a comeback, and Samsung’s patent portrays a capacitive stylus with quite a few tricks up its sleeve. The first is an embedded NFC chip that would make pairing with a device as easy as touching the two together. The second is a built-in headset. We’ve seen the stylus as a headset concept previously with ASUS’ three-in-one Padfone. Given that the phone portion of the device docks into a larger tablet, it makes sense to provide a more convenient way for users to take phone calls. Instead of prying the phone back out of the tablet, the stylus does double duty by becoming the phone’s earpiece. It isn’t farfetched to think Samsung has similar plans in the future, with the line between phones and tablets blurring more every day and a trend towards larger screen sizes. While the patent certainly fits into Samsung’s current device strategy with the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 10.1, there is no guarantee that such a concept will ever see the light of day. Given the nature of what is described, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear a device of this sort announced over the coming months, either. [via Engadget] |
With new models on the way, Amazon could cut Kindle Fire price to $149 Posted: 15 Jun 2012 10:52 AM PDT As the Kindle Fire’s holiday steam continues to taper off, Amazon is looking ahead to an updated version of their 7-inch e-reader/tablet hybrid. The release of a second generation Kindle Fire could see the original’s price dropped to $149. The reduced price would be even more enticing to consumers looking for a cheap tablet and further help Amazon to compete with a new crop of low cost/high power tablets. This includes the rumored Nexus tablet, a partnership between Google and ASUS that aims to provide an Android slate with quad-core processing power at the $200 price point currently occupied by the Kindle Fire. The next generation Kindle Fire would feature an upgraded display with a 1280 x 800 resolution and possible enhancements in processing power. It has long been rumored that Amazon would produce a second Kindle tablet with a larger display size, once said to launch simultaneously with the first version of the customized Android slate. Both 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch models have been proposed, and it seemed likely the former was on track to launch this year. Now sources are saying Amazon has put plans for the mid-size tablet on hold, though a 10.1-inch Kindle still remains a possibility. |
The NFL’s Dream Team gets even dreamier with the signing of Angry Birds [video] Posted: 15 Jun 2012 09:41 AM PDT If last year’s offseason splash for the Philadelphia Eagles amazed you, you’ll probably be stunned by this year’s. In addition to the talent they’ve added in the draft and the small hand they had in free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed five interesting undrafted free agents. Those would be Angry Birds, and an animated Andy Reid had the honors of making the announcement. Red Bird, Yellow Bird, Bomb Bird, and Big Brother Bird (otherwise known as Terence) stated they joined the Philadelphia Eagles because their mascot is a bird, and that they want to crush all of the “pigs” in the NFC East (that should ruffle some feathers). Andy Reid announced the fifth bird at the end of the conference, and it was revealed to be the Almighty Eagle. Vince Young, Michael Vick’s backup, crowned the Eagles as the Dream Team last year before they embarrassingly started the season as the joke of not just the NFC East, but of the entire league. With a full offseason, some hungry new rookies, and a new pack of birds added we’ll see if they can overcome the reigning Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and take over one of the most competitive divisions in football. Be sure to check out Football Schedule to see when these birds are set to play their first game, and be on the lookout for the pick’em game Football Beast coming up soon! |
DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX owners get notified of incoming Android 4.0 upgrade Posted: 15 Jun 2012 09:07 AM PDT We just received word from a reader that Verizon is sending text messages to Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX customers to let them know that Android 4.0 is on its way. The message doesn’t dive too deep into details, unfortunately, but we do know that the My Verizon app will be uninstalled as users will need to get an ICS compatible version from the Google Play Store. Other than that, things are business as usual until they’re ready to start rolling it out. Rooted users need not apply. [Thanks Spampeg!] |
Fancy Snap for Android lets you send self-destructing photos Posted: 15 Jun 2012 08:13 AM PDT A new app has hit the Google Play Store that offers up a very cool trick for those wanting to tease a friend. It’s called Fancy Snap and it allows you to send photos which self-destruct after a user-set period of time. They use sexting as the controversial use-case scenario to market the app. You could use it to text your significant other a taste of what to look forward to after work (with accessories, such as a censor sticker, to add), or you could just send a picture of a tasty burgah (gold coins for the reference) to a friend who’s extremely hungry. Anyone can view the pics as they are sent as links to Fancy Snap’s website. From there, the user has a limited amount of time to view the pic before it vanishes into nothingness. A bit of a novelty app, but cool regardless. Find it in the Google Play Store here. |
Huawei M660 gets caught in the wild Posted: 15 Jun 2012 06:58 AM PDT Huawei seems to be coming with a new, interesting option for those who like physical QWERTY keyboards. It’s the Huawei M660, and PhoneArena seems to have found it lounging about on a nice oak table. Its layout features a portrait-oriented 4-row design without staggering columns. The display is 3.2 inches and this thing will be coming with Android 2.3. We’re going to assume this won’t be a powerhouse but it should be able to old its own for everyday use. We don’t have much for a price or a release date, and even the name is not quite certain yet — it could be called the “Huawei Ascend Q” once it lands on store shelves, but that’s still up in the air. But it most certainly looks to be headed to cricket and this would seem to be a perfect option for those who prefer that service. Be sure to check out more images at the source link. [PhoneArena] |
Posted: 15 Jun 2012 06:26 AM PDT Microsoft have finally made Kinectimals available for Android after being mainstays on iOS and Windows Phone 7. The game sees you exploring the island of Lemuria, a land where you and a cub can have fun together as you care for it. Think of Nintendogs, but for mobile phones instead of just the DS. For $2.99 you’re getting a great app for kids, and even for yourself if you’re a sucker for cute animals. And if you have the Xbox 360 version of Kinectimals you’ll unlock five new animals for buying the Android version. Not a bad deal at all. Find it in the Google Play Store. |
Lumigon T2 coming this summer for about 600 Euros? Posted: 15 Jun 2012 05:12 AM PDT The Lumigon T2 has been a bit elusive since its unveiling back at Mobile World Congress, but we may finally be close to its arrival. Geeky Gadgets has reason to believe that the device will launch in Europe this summer for 600 Euros. Inside will be a 1.4GHz dual-core processor by Qualcomm, a 3.8 inch display, an 8 megapixel camera, and more. On the software side, it’ll feature a digital password protected vault for storing important files. If you were looking for a smartphone to get this summer you could do much worse than the Lumigon T2, though I imagine for the price people will be looking at HTC and Samsung’s latest options closely. |

Motorola Unveils RAZR V XT889 For China – Shows Off Handsome Good Looks Posted: 15 Jun 2012 12:22 AM PDT
Motorola just announced a pair of devices now available for China, the higher-end of which was a Razr variant unlike what we have stateside. Say hello to the Motorola Razr V XT889. While there wasn’t too much revealed as far as detailed specs of the device (only 4.3-inch display, 8MP shooter), what I found most interesting was its unique design. A clear departure from the corner-less design we’re seeing from Motorola here in the US. While not everyone will appreciate this style, I have to say I’m quite fond of this industrial, sharp edged, block-like body. You’ll notice the glass abruptly stops before reaching the top and bottom of the device, exposing a grill for the earpiece. The phone comes out of the box with Android 4.0 and other than that, it looks like it’s pretty much your average spec’d Razr. Just thought I’d share a little phone pr0n with y’all. Full press release below.

Deal Alert: AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 Only $150 For Upgrades at Amazon Wireless and Target Mobile Posted: 14 Jun 2012 11:16 PM PDT
I have a feeling more than a few of you are looking to make the Samsung Galaxy S3 your next big upgrade, and I have some good news for those of you on AT&T. First, Target was offering the device for only $150 for upgraders ($190 new accounts and $200 for family accounts), and now it looks like Amazon Wireless is following suit, matching that same deal for those flying solo on a individual account. Of course, the device is backordered so there’s no promising if you’ll be able to get the phone on day 1. But for $50 in savings, that’s a tough offer to refuse. I’ll link to both, that way you guys can pre-order the Galaxy S3 at the retailer of your choice. Cheers. [Amazon Wireless | Target Mobile]

Draw Something Updated With Fresh New UI, Special Words, and Game Expiration Notifications Posted: 14 Jun 2012 09:41 PM PDT
We knew it was coming. After finding itself bought up by the social gaming juggernaut Zynga, OMGPop has finally used some of those newly acquired funds to overhaul their smash-hit app, Draw Something. The game has been given a slight visual overhaul featuring a brand new “fresh” look for the summer. Also added are the new “Special Words” feature and the ability to play the game with friends in over 13 different languages. Players are also now given expiration notifications, so you no longer have to guess when your idle game with a friend is about to expire. Upon opening the app, you’ll notice a completely new User Agreement infused with Zynga’s privacy policy. Guess now would be a good time to dip back into Draw Something if you’ve been out of the game for awhile. In the spirit of full disclosure — you might not want to play with me, that is, unless you like receiving grade-school level doodles of random private parts. You’ve been warned. |
