LG preparing LG Optimus Vu 2 to compete with Galaxy Note II? Posted: 11 Jul 2012 01:00 PM PDT A few months ago, LG introduced the LG Optimus Vu which was launched to compete with the famous Galaxy Note. Both are almost the same in size and specs, but lets face it: that Galaxy Note was the dominant one. LG is not deciding to sit back and relax however, as the rumor on the street is that the Korean giant will launch the LG Optimus Vu 2 in the same time frame as Samsung release of the anticipated Galaxy Note II. Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Note II somewhere in September, so it means that we will see the Optimus Vu 2 in August or September as well. It's expected that the Optimus Vu 2 will feature a 5-inch 4:3 1024×768 touchscreen (same as Optimus Vu), a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, and will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyway, nothing is written in stone, so just take this rumor with a grain of salt and wait for the day when LG will officially clear the air. Just as the Note was a hit, I am pretty sure that the Galaxy Note II will be a stunner smartphone, but will the LG Optimus Vu 2 be good enough to take it down? Amazon brings GameCircle to Kindle Fire and APIs for game developers Posted: 11 Jul 2012 12:00 PM PDT For a while now, the Amazon Kindle Fire has stood as top dog as the fiscally friendly Android tablet. The low price-point paired with elegant UI and integration with Amazon's services attracted a huge amount of sales, despite it not being exactly an Android tablet. Since its release however, the stock Android UI has evolved, first with 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and now with 4.1 Jellybean, becoming slicker and much more tablet friendly. Also, you may remember a little thing called the Nexus 7, announced just a few weeks ago with a great hardware spec list...at the same price-point Suddenly, the Kindle Fire isn't the best bang for your buck anymore, and Amazon knows it. Naturally, Amazon will surely be releasing a more competitive tablet (or two) to stand up to Google's new baby, but that doesn't mean that Amazon will stay idle in the meantime. Case in point, Amazon has announced the GameCircle for Kindle Fire, along with a host of APIs for use by developers. With GameCircle, Amazon plans to make gaming on the Fire more social and integrated, allowing for achievements (a la Microsoft's Xbox 360) and leaderboards for backing up players' bragging rights. The big one however, and something Google needs to pay close attention to, is a sync feature, which backs up player settings and progress to the cloud, allowing someone to pick up right where they left off in case of hard reset or use on a new device. This would be great to have on the stock Google software, especially considering the large rooting community. Flash a new ROM? Not a problem! Just download the game again and you're good to go! It would definitely be appreciated by this writer. What do you guys think? Will this be the next thing for phone and tablet OSes? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think, and check out the GameCircle official press release below.

Nexus 7 tablet gets Android 4.1.1 update, adds Google Wallet and performance boost Posted: 11 Jul 2012 06:57 AM PDT While you may not yet be able to get your hands on a Nexus 7 tablet - arguably the tablet to beat right now, those with developer / I/O versions of the tablet in-hand are seeing updates to a new version of Jelly Bean. The update is Android 4.1.1, which was given to AOSP yesterday, and clocks in at 12.6MB. This means that it's not a huge overhaul, but it is listed as having both a boost to performance, and - yes - Google Wallet preinstalled. The OTA update will come down, as long as you have stock recovery. OTA Rootkeeper will, well, keep your root after flashing, so no gymnastics trying to get root back afterwards... after all, it is a Nexus device. There are some other inclusions as well, such as Google Now and new notifications. Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments. Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch on Sprint slated for ICS this week Posted: 11 Jul 2012 06:37 AM PDT Any Epic 4G Touch users on Sprint a little annoyed at how long it's taken for ICS to come down? I'm raising my own hand here, folks. An anonymous user over at Android Central has snagged a screenshot, indicating that we could be seeing the update on our Sprint Galaxy S II's starting tomorrow (7/12) and rolling along through the 20th. The update will still run Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top of the ICS update, so there won't be a lot of UI changes. However, we're expecting some great functionality, as listed above.
