Orbotix to launch host of games for Sphero, entertain us even more

Sphero owners will soon have more to do with that robotic ball than just draw circles, as Orbotix has announced several (five, to be exact) Sphero-specific games that are sure to occupy hours days of free time. Each game is different from the next, so there should be something for everyone.

  • ColorGrab sounds like a modern version of Simon Says, with colors. Varying colors flash on the screen, and users have to move Sphero at the right time to get points.
  • Doodle Grub, which Orbotix is hailing as a “fresh take on the Snake game,” is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Players will navigate a grub with Sphero, eat apples, grow, and avoid enemies.
  • Golf v2 is also a bit obvious: it’s an improved version of Sphero Golf, with better accuracy and course creation.
  • Exile, perhaps the most interesting of the games, is much more fast-paced than golfing or color coordination. Players can fly through space (via Sphero and some on-screen prompts, of course), destroy enemies, and collect energy cores.
  • Finally, TAG is currently only available on iOS, but that can’t stop us from hoping that it’ll hit Android sometime soon. It’s being dubbed as a “new take on the classic Red Light, Green Light,” which definitely catches our attention.

Orbotix is also putting the finishing touches on a revamped version of the Sphero app itself, called Sphero v2. It’s said to combine SpheroCam, SpheroDrive, and the Sphero app all into one ball of fun. Sphero v2 will debut on September 14th, with improved accuracy and more intuitiveness.

RadioShack’s no-contract rate plans leaked

There have been rumors about  no-contract plans over at Radio Shack. These rumors can now be put to rest! We have leaked screen shots of these new plans and all details and pictures to go with them.

This new service for Smartphones will be offering two options. The first will include unlimited talk and text, along with 1GB of 3G data. The first plan is $50. For $60 per month customers will get everything the first plan has to offer plus, 2.5GB 3G data (Up from 1GB) and visual voicemail.

For “Feature Phones” you will also have two options. You can choose either $25 for 300 anytime minutes or $35 for 1,000 anytime minutes. With both plans include the following: voicemail, Caller ID, 3-Way Calling, Call Waiting, unlimited text, and unlimited 1x mobile web.

Motorola wants YOU to attend the September 5 event!

Motorola is pretty pumped about their big September 5 event, and wants to share the moment with a few lucky readers.  To that end, they have opened the doors a bit wider, letting 25 lucky folks join them at the New York festivities.

Motorola is hosting a Facebook contest where winners can earn exclusive the chance to join them and the product experts.  The contest, which is pretty simple and straightforward, ends on Wednesday (August 29) night!

  • The contest is live on Motorola's Facebook Page and entries will be accepted until   Wednesday August 29, 2012 at 11:59 AM ET
  • Contest is open to all legal residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut
  • To enter, users can visit the Motorola Facebook page, click the "You. On Display." tab, and follow the directions to upload a photograph depicting what Motorola means to them along with a caption explaining the photograph in fifty (50) words or less.

Mozilla announces improved, faster Firefox for Android

Mozilla just dropped us a line to advise that there’s a new version of the popular browser in the Google Play Store.  Geared more for tablets this time around, the update sees speed boosts across all fronts, including startup, loading, and zooming.  Also included in this go ’round is the Awsome Screen that brings all of your history, passwords, booksmarks, and other personal stuff. Video editing app Magisto now on Android

Magisto, a video editing app that allows you to shoot and edit videos from your handset, is now available on Android. There is not much to this app and it is very, very simple. You choose what videos you want, select a soundtrack that you want to play, and finally name the new movie. Magisto does all the rest! While the Magisto app is free, premium monthly and yearly services will soon be added to the Android app that allow for longer uploads, more video storage and unlimited downloads.  These premium services are currently available for iOS and web users.

LG announces a quad-core LTE beast with Optimus G

LG today announced their newest super phone the LG Optimus G.  Packing some amazing specs, the word super phone is not a stretch.  Details include a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with LTE capabilities, a 4.7-inch 1280×768 True HD Screen, and 2GB RAM.  Powered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Optimus G also boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front facing shooter.  Tons of power packed into a slim 8.45mm thick unibody design.

Thanks to the new technology, the thickness of the screen panel has been reduced and the screen itself is much stronger to withstand damage from impact.

Lastly, LG Chem developed a high-density 2,100mAh battery that provides more power capacity and prolonged charging cycles. The new battery technology extended the battery lifespan to 800 cycles at 80 percent charging capabilities, much greater than the lifespan of 500 cycles in regular phone batteries.

Samsung Galaxy S III gets four new color options

Samsung today announced that there will be four new color options for the flagship, the Galaxy S III. If you were not a fan of the Marble White or Pebble Blue then perhaps you’ll appreciate the new stuff.  Of course, it’s not as easy or convenient as it would appear – things depend on carriers and markets.  You might be limited by what your respective provider has in store.

Nevertheless, the four new colors for the Galaxy S III are Amber Brown, Garnet Red, Sapphire Black and Titanium Grey.  Here’s a picture of each option as well as a brief description.

Google advertising Nexus 7 on home page

Head to Google.com today and you’ll find an advertisement for the Nexus 7.  Big deal, right?  Actually, yeah, it is.  Google doesn’t advertise their Nexus devices all that often and typically leaves their search home clean.  That’s not to say they haven’t done anything like this in the past; Google advertised the T-Mobile G1 back in 2008.

We’re curious to learn whether this is a short term campaign or if it’s going to be around a while.  We have seen plenty of advertising support for the Nexus 7 including magazines, online stuff, and a TV spot.  For the first time we can remember, Google is everywhere with the $200 tablet.

MetroPCS adds $150 Coolpad Quattro 4G to lineup

MetroPCS today announced yet another affordable 4G LTE Android with the debut of the Coolpad Quattro 4G.  As the second smartphone of its kind to cost less that $150, the handset runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 1GHz processor.  Additional details include a 4-inch touch display, a 3.2-megapixel camera, front-facing VGA camera, and your standard fare of connectivities.

For a limited time, those looking to pick one of these up can get a $50 mail-in rebate on the second of any two 4G LTE handses.  At this rate, the Quattro 4G would be $99 plus tax.
