Press-ready HTC One X 5 images leaks online Posted: 17 Sep 2012 04:07 PM PDT Alright, this is getting pretty interesting, pretty darn fast. A seemingly press-ready image of an HTC One X 5 has leaked online, and it looks eerily similar to the recently outed handset rumored for Verizon. But wait, I thought that was going to be the Droid Incredible X? Well, chances are good that this may still be the case if and when it comes to Verizon. For the rest of the world, and potentially other U.S. carriers, it looks to be a 5-inch, turbo-charged version of the One X series. Google+ is now 1/9th size of Facebook Posted: 17 Sep 2012 11:43 AM PDT Google’s senior vice president of engineering, Vic Gundotra, today announced that Google+ has grown to more than 100 million active monthly users. At around 1/9th the size of Facebook, it has a long way to go before catching the king of social networking. Consider, however, that Google+ has only been offered as a public service for barely a year now and that 100 million figure actually is quite appealing. In all seriousness, Google+ has grown quite a bit in its first year and we’ve really enjoyed the new features. Now, we just need a proper way to manage business pages from the mobile client and we’ll be all set. Congrats to the Google team! Google acquires famous iOS photo app Snapseed Posted: 17 Sep 2012 11:40 AM PDT Google acquired Nik Software today, developer of the famous iOS app known as Snapseed and the reason probably is to go head-to-head with Instagram, which is one of the most famous photo app available on Android and iOS, and it’s downloaded more than 5 million times by Android users; Facebook purchased it for $1 billion back in April. There are around 9 million Snapseed users on iOS, and it also won iPad App of the Year as well, though Google purchased it to bring some action to Google+.”We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone,” Google+ boss Vic Gundotra wrote in a blog post. We also hope to see a Snapseed application for Android, and we hope it will happen anytime soon now. So tell us, do you think Google’s Snapseed would be good enough to take down Instagram? Yes or No? Samsung Galaxy Note II leaked in Verizon colors Posted: 17 Sep 2012 09:51 AM PDT Samsung Galaxy Note II was officially unveiled by Samsung a few weeks ago - a device a lot of people are looking forward to. It’s confirmed that both AT&T and Verizon will launch it, also there are chances that Sprint and T-Mobile will give it a shot as well. Our friends over at Droid-Life got their hands on some leaked shots of the Verizon Galaxy Note II – they said that it looks just like the international version, but there might be some changes under the hood. As you can see the Note II above with Big Red’s logo and their famous 4G LTE sign as well on the battery cover, and there’s also a small “Verizon Wireless” branding on the home button as well. It’s possible that it’s just a test unit, or may be it’s just a sticker, right? So, are you planning to pick a Galaxy Note II from Verizon Wireless? Tell us about it in the comment box below. Samsung launches advertising offensive, compares Galaxy S III to iPhone 5 Posted: 17 Sep 2012 07:09 AM PDT Samsung has begun running a print ad this week, taking the iPhone 5 to task for all of its features. Comparing the new Apple handset to its own Galaxy S III, Samsung’s breakdown doesn’t seem all the close at all. Of course, there’s no mention of some of the exclusive features that come in the iPhone 5, but we’d hardly expect the same out of Cupertino. Having said that, the Galaxy S III does match up rather favorably on a number fronts. Have you see our head-to-head comparison and early match-up from last week?

Telenav launches Scout for Android Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:48 AM PDT Telenav today announced a fantastic new location-based navigation and discovery app for Android with the debut of Scout. Rather than functioning as a simple “help me get from A to B” app, Scout is the sort of client that you’ll want to use on a regular basis. We’ve watched over the years as Telenav has tried to find a way to keep you running its app on your daily commute or weekend jaunt; Scout for Android is the answer. After making its initial debut back at CES 2012, we’ve waited for the Android version of the app to arrive. I’ve had a chance to see this app and service develop over the last few months and could not be more excited about its release. Tied to a wonderful web experience called Scout.me, Scout is more about you than it is about the actual destination. Because it’s powered by Telenav, users can create favorite places, pull up real-time traffic and ETAs, check weather, and other great stuff. Toss in voice and on-screen turn-by-turn GPS navigation, local search, speech recognition, and free automatic rerouting and you can see why we dig the app. Oh, did we mention how great it looks? While Scout is a free app and service to use, Telenav is also offering a premium version for $24.99 per year or $4.99 per month. The details for the enhanced experience are as follows:

New firmware confirms T-Mobile Galaxy Note II as SGH-T889 Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:22 AM PDT New firmware details leaking over the weekend seemingly confirm that T-Mobile may be readying a version of the Galaxy Note II. Already tied to rumors of the SGH-T889 model number, the guys at SamMobile found a new T889UVALIC firmware arrived on September 15. As they tell us, Samsung drops new firmware releases every 4-5 days for device testers to use. That said, they’ve already snagged the firmware and made it available for anyone who happens to be using one of these yet-announced T-Mobile handsets. As a reminder, Samsung is expecting big things out of the Galaxy Note II, projecting upwards of 20 million in sales. Further, it appears that multiple U.S. carriersin line to carry the device once it makes its debut.

Samsung reported to announce 5-inch Galaxy S IV at Mobile World Congress 2013 Posted: 17 Sep 2012 06:08 AM PDT And here we are with our first rumors for the Samsung Galaxy S IV. According to Korea Times (translate), Samsung plans to announce its next-generation Android smartphone at Mobile World Congress in early 2013, putting it on sale in March at the latest. The Galaxy S IV (or is it 4?) will reportedly offer a slightly larger 5-inch display and employ Samsung’s quad-core Exynos processor. Considering Samsung just introduced the Galaxy S III back in early May, this would put the next release out just some 10 months later. Not only that, but it would put things back in more traditional release, tied to a large mobile conference instead of a standalone event. Given that it’s the middle of September, we imagine there’s plenty of rumors to report over the next few months. What’s more, there’s a lot of time for conflicting reports, fakes, leaks, and mockups.
