Amazon Wireless offering AT&T’s HTC One X for only $19.99 Posted: 21 Sep 2012 01:47 PM PDT So you wanted to get the HTC One X from AT&T earlier this summer but weren’t too keen on the $200 price tag. You waited, saw that it hit $99, and then thought pretty hard about. If you have not pulled the trigger yet, and still fancy that smartphone, you’d be downright goofy to pass on Amazon’s current deal which sees the handset for only $19.99 with a two-year service agreement. Note that this price is for new subscribers only and that upgrades and add-ons are listed at $99.99 with contract. Hardware details for the HTC One X:

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean official for Verizon Galaxy Nexus Posted: 21 Sep 2012 09:28 AM PDT Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is officially ready for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, according to the nation’s largest wireless carrier. A support page (PDF) has gone live for the update, detailing some of the new and awesome features such as Google Now and enhanced notifications. Once you (finally) download and install the JR0030 you’ll be as current as things can be! Samsung Galaxy Nexus Upgrades to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean The Galaxy Nexus by Samsung is the first smartphone on the Verizon Wireless network to be upgraded to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system (OS). For a limited time, the software upgrade will be pushed out in phases over Wi-Fi only. Customers can check if the software is available for their device by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. If the upgrade is available, a notification will be displayed and customers will need to connect to a Wi-Fi network to complete the download. Jelly Bean is the newest Android OS and offers advanced functionality and new features like Google Now that feeds relevant information to a device based on time and location. With Google Now, a person standing on a train platform may receive information about when a specific train is arriving and if there are delays. Jelly Bean’s smarter keyword feature makes text messaging faster by predicting the next word in a sentence, and improved speech-to-text technology and voice technology continues to work even if a data connection is interrupted. The interface on Jelly Bean is also the most responsive Android OS to date. Customers can interact with messages, photos, emails and event details from the notification screen, allowing them to directly access important information without navigating their phone. Additional information on the Jelly Bean upgrade can be found on the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung support page. Leaked Verizon fall roadmap tips various Android releases Posted: 21 Sep 2012 08:11 AM PDT Seems like every year around this time we find ourselves looking at a leaked Verizon roadmap with multiple smartphone release dates. Such is the case today as we learn what Big Red has in store for the remainder of 2012. According to a source close to PhoneArena, we should see roughly a half dozen Android-powered devices hitting Verizon between now and Christmas. Sooner…First up will be the Samsung Stratosphere 2, which is listed as having a Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8-megapixel camera, and a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset. Also of particular note is the sliding QWERTY keyboard, something we don’t see much of any longer. A few weeks later we should be hearing about the LG Spectrum 2, or Verizon’s version of the Optimus LTE II. Details are reported to include a 4.7-inch display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, NFC support, and a 2,150mAh battery. Look for this Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone in early October. The fabled 5-inch HTC phablet is still said to be very real and looks to arrive in November. As a refresher, this is the one slated to boast a 480ppi 1080p HD display, 1.5GB RAM, and at least 16GB storage. …or laterAt some point in the middle of the fourth quarter we should see the two new HD handsets from Motorola. Pricing is still up in the air but the Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD are set to bring moderate refreshes to last year’s models. A successor to the Pantech Breakout is slated for some time this year, however it’s unclear what might be in the box. Details such as hardware and tentative time frame are unclear for the so-called Pantech Perception. Finally, Verizon is rumored to offer a pair of ZTE tablets later this in the form of 7-inch and 10-inch models. Pretty much everything here is unknown, and even the source advises that the larger model could have been scrapped already. In a nutshell

Phiaton PS 20 NC earphones review Posted: 21 Sep 2012 06:39 AM PDT First, let me preface this with a disclaimer: I love reviewing headphones and Bluetooth accessories for Android devices. Were I not in this position, I would have no idea just how good (or bad) some of these products are that I pass in retail stores or see online. I’m amazed at all of the high quality stuff that comes through the office, and really get a tickle out of discovering new brands. Such is the case with Phiaton and their earphones. I recently reviewed a pair of their Bluetooth headphones that I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to cut a cord. That said, here’s a review for a pair of noise-cancelling headphones from the same company You know that feeling of when your ears pop from an airplane and all of a sudden there’s a rushing of sound and everything else in the background just disappears? That’s the best way I can describe the noise cancellation of the Phiaton PS 20 NC headphones. It’s amazing stuff and something that might even take a little getting used to as it feels strange the first few times. It doesn’t hurt or do anything to your ear when it happens, but it simply isolates you from the world. Phiaton’s “Half In Ear” design is quite comfortable and feels great , I suspect, to even those who don’t like to put things in their ears. As something that sits just inside the ear, the earphones are a quality build with a sound that rivals anything else I’ve tested. Thus far, everything I have seen out of the Korean manufacturer has been stylish, comfortable, and of high performance. The PS 20 NC comes with four sizes of tips for your ears (XS, S, M, L) and fit just about anyone’s ear. Like the Bluetooth brethren I reviewed, the tips are soft, pliable silicon and feel ultra-comfortable. Also like their wireless counterpart, they come with a closeable (magnet) suede carrying case for travel and are available in black or white. I tested the PS 20 NC earphones like I do for most headphones, on my phone, computer, and with my handsets. Yes, I gave them the old lawn-mowing litmus as well. Overall, these performed more than admirably and have a very balanced sound. Highs are nice and crisp and the bass was deep on hip hop, electronic, and dubstep tracks. Voice sounds wonderful here and podcasts really shine on Phiaton headphones/earphones. Think of the way you want music or audio to sound in a room with optimal spacing and layout and that’s how these performed. It’s worth noting that you do not need to enable the noise cancellation and that it actually employs the use of a AAA battery. Depending on your environment, it’s just fine to leave that feature off. For what it’s worth, in the month or so that I have used these earphones, I have yet to run low on juice. The same part of the earphones that house the battery also features a clip so that you can fasten to your shirt or sleeve. There’s plenty of length here and I actually found it better to clip to the underside of a t-shirt when walking or doing moderate activities. Specs and Details
