Google MyTracks updated, now supporting “pause” function and other goodies Posted: 27 Sep 2012 04:15 PM PDT After months of community comments and focus on the knowledge of traveling, it looks like Google MyTracks has been updated to give users a more enjoyable, and accurate atmosphere. For those who have never used MyTracks before, it is essentially a distance and speed recording tool. People that find more interest in riding bikes, running, or perform other types of recreational activities will be quite happy with the updates, in store for them. The most notable feature is perhaps the ability to “pause and resume” recording data, which will provide users with a more accurate calculation of their daily travels. Besides the glorious option to control ”time and space”, MyTracks users can now utlize recording easily, as the developers have moved the recording functions to the bottom of the app, as opposed to the small icons on the top. And to throw in that “third wish”, you will be able to control everything with a new, sleek widget.
With these updates, its hard not to get this app. You can grab it in the Play Store for free.. no suprise. What do you think of the MyTracks update? Will this assist you in your daily routine? I would love to hear your comments on your latest endeavors using MyTracks.

Latest Foursquare update revives the ‘Nearby Friends’ feature Posted: 27 Sep 2012 04:01 PM PDT With social networking gaining popularity and becoming an average part of daily life, it is important to be constantly updated on the latest software. If you are a user of Foursquare, you will be happy to know that a great feature is returning to the mobile app. Once again, friends will be allowed to connect with each other using the “Nearby Friends” feature, on their Android device. If you are not familiar with this feature, it is mainly because the developers removed the option in one of the last updates. Basically this add-on allows users to “check in”, so that friends around them can see their location. A little creepy when you think about it, but that is one of the main purposes of Foursquare to begin with. Well, not to be creepy anyway.
Now with the 2012.09.25 update, all power has been restored to Foursquare junkies nationwide, along with a few “performance fixes” here and there. What do you think of the feature rejoining the Foursquare app? Will you try out the app with your friends, to “connect” more often? I would love to hear your comments.

Images and specs leaked for new Samsung Galaxy Music devices Posted: 27 Sep 2012 02:11 PM PDT Foreign site Telekom Presse obtained some images and specifications for a pair of Samsung devices that are in the works. The devices are the Samsung Galaxy Music and the Samsung Galaxy Music DUOS. Contrary to the bigger is better trend, these devices will come with 3.0-inch screens, an A9 850 MHz processor and 4GB of internal memory that can be increased via the addition of 32GB microSD cards. The pair of phones will initially come loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The DUOS version will be dual-sim capable. Definitely not a device for those interested in powerhouse devices and maybe not even for those interested in a device for typical smartphone duties. However, the devices may be of interest to users who are into music. Each will come equipped with an FM radio receiver and antenna along with the ability to record FM broadcasts. Samsung has built in speakers at both ends of the device to improve sound quality and numerous music based applications will be preloaded. It is not entirely clear what market Samsung hopes to tap into with these devices. They are similar to portable media players and thus will probably suffer from some of the issues other devices in that niche experience, although the addition of phone functionality may help. However, the hardware specs and small size seem to work against the devices for a smartphone buyer who may be wooed by the addition of nice music features. No word on pricing or availability. Do you think pricing and availability will really matter with either of these devices? source: SamMobile

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 12:13 PM PDT Google just launched Field Trip, which runs in the background on your phone and is your guide to cool, hidden, and unique things in the world around you. Whenever you get close to something cool, a pop up notification will appear telling you about the place. Also, if you happen to have a headset or Bluetooth connected, it will read the information to you. Field Trip will identify the best places to eat, shop, or have fun, including local history. For restaurants and bars, data will be taken from publications like Thrillist, Food Network, Zagat, and Eater. For stores and products, Experts at Sunset, Cool Hunting, WeHeart, Inhabitat, and Remodelista will provide the information. Songkick and Flavorpill will take care of local music and Atlas Obscura and Daily Secret will uncover hidden gems.
Field Trip seems like the perfect way to not only discover places in locations you aren’t familiar with, but also to re-discover history and places in your local area. Check out the video below and hit one of the download links to get started and let us know what you think.

Samsung to celebrate the U.S. launch of the Galaxy Note II on October 24 Posted: 27 Sep 2012 09:50 AM PDT Samsung just sent us a “save the date” for an event on October 24th in New York City. The invitation clearly shows the S Pen, so we fully expect this to be some sort of launch party for the U.S. release of the Galaxy Note II. The original Galaxy Note sold more units than most expected, and the Galaxy Note II is supposed to triple that success. We will be live at the event so if there’s anything major to report we will let you know.

Google’s 2-step verification easier with Google Authenticator update Posted: 27 Sep 2012 09:08 AM PDT If you are interested in adding some extra security to your Android device, you might want to check out Google's 2-step authentication feature. If you are already using this function, it is a little bit easier to use now due to an update released by Google through the Google Play store. 2-step authentication adds extra security by requiring a user to have something, in this case their smartphone, to go along with the thing they know, their password, when signing in to web sites or their Google account. The smartphone requirement comes into play thanks to the Google Authenticator app which is used to generate a code to be used along with a password. The update today adds the ability to turn-on 2-step authentication without scanning a QR code or re-entering a password on a device. If you are not sure whether you are using 2-step verification or want to turn it on, check the security settings for your Google Account on your device. Google also provides some video instructions on setting up your Google Account on your desktop computer to use 2-step verification. Use one of the download links below to grab the app.
