“Press” is a beautiful new RSS reader that syncs with your Google Reader account Posted: 20 Dec 2012 09:01 AM PST If you’re looking for a beautiful RSS reader that syncs to your Google Reader account, look no further. “Press” is a gorgeous new app released by TwentyFive Squares that features a heavy emphasis on good design and simplicity. The app was built using Android’s new design philosophy so it already looks natural on your Android phone or tablet, but TwentyFive Squares took the design language a step further and added some nice textures, shadows, icons and typography to really push the app over-the-top when it comes to great design. Press is simple and easy to use and utilizes the two panel navigation that has become so popular with Android apps as of late. Articles look great and you can change the article layout and font if you so choose. The only flaw in the app is that once you are reading an article, there is no easy way to navigate to the next (via swipe gesture or otherwise), so you have to back out to the main menu. The developer has acknowledged this issue and is working on a solution. There is also no widget in the current release, but we’re sure that will be addressed soon as well. The app is $1.99 in the Google Play store for a limited time. Hit the break to see a video, screenshot gallery, and QR code to get the app.

Samsung preparing 5.5 inch flexible screen to show off at CES Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:56 AM PST
Samsung hasn’t really kept their flexible displays a secret, but I guess they wouldn’t have to. Flexible screens are one of the coolest new ideas for not just smartphones, but technology in general. Now we’re hearing word that Samsung is going to demo a bending 5.5 inch screen at CES next year. It will supposedly have a 1,280×720-pixel HD resolution and a 267 pixel density, plus the fact that it’s straight out of a Star Trek episode. They’ll also have a 55-inch screen to wow consumers that are more interested in televisions. Of course, this is only one part of what makes up a touch screen display on a smartphone, but Samsung is well on the way to getting these used in smartphones. source: CNet

VUDU releases tablet app for video streaming Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:39 AM PST VUDU is a popular streaming app for movies and TV shows. Now VUDU has launched an application for everyone’s favorite new video streaming device: Android tablets. The app has a very clean, nicely designed interface that really utilizes all of the screen space on tablets’ larger screens. It’s worth mentioning that 1080p streaming isn’t supported on tablets (yet) so that may be disappointing for owners of super high-res tablets. Either way, more video streaming apps are never a bad thing. Hit the source below for the download links.

$99 Nexus 7 rumors continue to swirl Posted: 20 Dec 2012 08:02 AM PST We started hearing rumors of a $99 Nexus 7 several months ago, and whether they are true or not, I’m sure it will happen sometime in 2013 based on the competition between Amazon, Google, and Apple. The latest comes from DigiTimes, and they are telling us to expect to see it sometime in the 1st quarter 2013, or more likely the 2nd quarter. This information comes from the fact that O-Film started shipping what’s called glass-film-film (GFF) screens for the Nexus 7 this month. These GFF displays will not only help cut production costs for this cheaper version, but it will also make it thinner. Although it’s expected that the tab could come in at $99, other experts are questioning if it can even be done, and think $129 to $149 is more likely. For initial shipment estimates, Google and ASUS are shooting for 500,000 to 600,000 units with mostly likely the majority of them going to emerging markets. source: digitimes
