Details for the handset reportedly include a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, a 720p resolution display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, front-facing 1-megapixel shooter, Dolby Digital Plus, and a 3000mAh battery. LG rumored to intro 5.5-inch Optimus G2 at CES Posted: 03 Jan 2013 10:06 AM PST Grab your salt, Digitimes is back with another Android rumor. The site is today reporting that LG will introduce a 5.5-inch Optimus G2 at CES next week. Details are pretty scarce at this point however the device will reportedly employ the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime MSM8974 chip. Sounds like LG might have more than just 5.5-inch screens on display, but rather full-on devices.
We’ll be at CES next week and will be anxious to see what sort of hardware LG is cooking up for consumers in the early half of 2013. Moreover, we’re curious to learn if LG will introduce a successor to the Optimus G so quickly. Be sure to follow AndroidGuys on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube! |
Unlocked Huawei Ascend P1 hits Amazon Posted: 03 Jan 2013 09:30 AM PST It has been a long time coming but the Huawei Ascend P1 has finally made its way to the United States. Offered as unlocked handset through Amazon, the $400 phone can be paired with either T-Mobile USA or AT&T. The smartphone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 4.3-inch super AMOLED display, 8-megapixel camera, and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Certainly not top of the line stuff to be sure, however we shouldn’t expect all that much out of a device announced at last year’s CES. Nevertheless, if you’re in the market for something new and unlocked, you can grab the Huawei Ascend P1 for $400 today.

Sprint reportedly to offer branded prepaid service in late January Posted: 03 Jan 2013 09:08 AM PST Sprint will begin offering its own branded prepaid service in late January, according to a new Android Police report. Set to go live on January 25, ‘Sprint as You Go’ will launch with a pair of basic phones and a pair of smartphones ( LG Optimus Elite and Samsung Victory). Pricing is expected to be $50/month for the former and $70/month for the latter, including unlimited talk, text, and data.
Interestingly, the Samsung Victory is void of the 4G LTE branding that comes with the carrier’s contracted service plan. Also worth noting, it appears none of the current Sprint devices will be made available with the prepaid plans. With T-Mobile and MetroPCS set to merge, we can expect some concerted efforts in the prepaid business segment. Sprint currently offers no-contract options under the Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile umbrellas. One difference between the Sprint branded service from these two ‘rivals’ is that the carrier will allow unlimited data whereas the others will limit speeds at specific thresholds.

T-Mobile to carry Nexus 4 in retail stores in January Posted: 03 Jan 2013 06:57 AM PST T-Mobile will begin offering the Nexus 4 in retail locations across the country later this month, according to TmoNews. The LG smartphone has been rather difficult to procure as of late so this is a good sign for those of you still waiting to grab the latest Pure Google experience. It is unclear exactly when the LG Nexus 4 will touch down in retail stores but we can imagine the focus being “sooner rather than later”. We’ll be anxious to see if there are enough units to go around and whether the demand stays high for the Jelly Bean handset.
