Google developer teases the masses with Google+ Photos app Posted: 27 Feb 2013 06:14 AM PST
If you happen to own a Chromebook, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a sweet little app that’s currently on the way. Famed developer François Beaufort had revealed in a teaser that Google+ Photos is very much real and is all set for arrival on your machine in the near-future. Also known as “Pulsar”, the app is powered by Native Client technology and gives users the ability to upload and share photos from Chrome directly. Beaufort is quick to mention two major features of the Chrome app: the automatic selection of the best shots and the automatic import of photos when users plug in a camera or memory card. Of course there’s probably more to the app, but for now we won’t know very much until the app gets all of its kinks worked out. Unfortunately, the app is not quite ready for primetime just yet, but Beaufort does encourage adventurous users to try it out if they are feeling a little lucky and all. You’ll find more deets at the source link below. source: François Beaufort+

Adobe Photoshop Touch now available for smartphones Posted: 27 Feb 2013 06:02 AM PST There’s no question that Adobe Photoshop (PS Touch) is one of the premier photo editing apps, but up until today it was only available for tablets. Those of you that would like to utilize this powerful app on your phone will be happy to know that it was just released in the Play Store. I had a chance to see a hands on demo of it recently, and if you’re wondering if this version will be toned down, wonder no more because it’s not. Now there’s both bad news and good news, First, the bad news, if you want to be able to use it on both your phone and tablet, you will have to buy both apps ($9.99 for tablet, $4.99 for phones). The good news is that if you utilize Adobe Creative Cloud, your projects will automatically sync between devices.

HTC One will be the only “One” device in 2013 Posted: 27 Feb 2013 04:52 AM PST Yesterday HTC made the announcement that their flagship phone, the HTC One, would be the only device in the “One” lineup for 2013. While this is certainly a bold move for HTC, it could prove to be a wise one. With the competition rising from competitors, such as Samsung and the Galaxy S IV, HTC needs a strategy that will boost sales and consumer attraction. By making the One their focus, HTC is learning from the success of other phones such as the iPhone which Apple has backed as their singular device since its launch in 2007.
HTC wants the One in the hands of as many carriers as possible, and by backing a single device, HTC has a greater chance of accomplishing that goal. Hopefully HTC will back it up with a huge marketing campaign that will attract consumers to the device from now and well into the future. The One is easily one of HTC's home-run devices due to its incredible performance and stunning design, and you can expect great things yet to come from them. Source: MobileNews.omio.com

Google pushes silent update to add Google Settings app to your app drawer Posted: 26 Feb 2013 08:18 PM PST By now, some of you may have noticed a new little green icon popping up in your app drawer today, titled Google Settings. The new shortcut is part of Google Play’s recent update and gives you convenient access to Google+ sign-in settings, among other settings you could previously access through other apps. So in case you were worrying about some random spam app junking up your phone, don’t be alarmed. The app puts your settings menu from other Google apps, like G+ and Maps, in one convenient screen. It isn’t a necessity, but it gives Google some new room to work in new settings for their core applications. We can probably expect a few more settings to pop up from time to time, and I’d bet that eventually this application will be simply merged into the settings menu of Android in a future release. Until then, another little icon on your phone isn’t too big of a deal, right?

Google adds Google+ sign-in to Google Play services 3.0 Posted: 26 Feb 2013 07:20 PM PST
Google has rolled out an update to their Google Play services, which features some pretty cool new features. Both new maps APIs and Google+ sign-in are features present in the update. Google+ sign-in allows users to sign in to their applications using Google credentials, which brings along all of their Google information with them for the app. Things like your name, display picture, and social circles will carry over into applications. Sharing posts to your Google+ page are also more customizable and will allow you to make them a bit more interactive, like including actions such as “listen” and “check-in” to your posts. Popular location app Banjo was used to showcase the integration, and showed what’s possibly one of the coolest features of the update; over-the-air installs of an application from a website, with or without access to an app store. That seamless integration is going to let developers add plenty of cool features to their apps in the future. TuneIn Radio is also on board with the Google+ integration, and more apps are sure to follow. Google Maps also received some API updates, fixing plenty of bugs for users. Not quite as flashy and exciting, but still worth having. Hopefully we’ll see some apps take advantage of these features in the near future. source: Android Developers Blog
