Samsung Galaxy S4 announced for late April Posted: 14 Mar 2013 04:54 PM PDT Time to put those rumors to bed; the new Samsung flagship has been officially introduced. Samsung, as you all know by now, today announced the Galaxy S4. HardwareSpecifications for the Galaxy S4 are very much in line with the rumors over the last few months and look to position the handset as a serious contender. Powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and running the latest version of Samsung's custom UI, the GS4 features a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor. Additional specs include 2GB RAM, at least 16GB internal storage, and a 2600 mAh removable battery. The rear camera is 13-megapixels while the front-facing camera gets 2-megapixels of its own. The Galaxy S4 features a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a 441 pixel per inch resolution.SoftwareThe Samsung Galaxy S4 features a number of new software enhancements, many of which you've already heard about. Standout details include Smart Pause, Smart Scroll, and Air View. Samsung views the software and user experience to be considerably more important than the actual hardware. Take the camera experience, for instance, and the Eraser and Drama Shot stuff that lets you create montage-like photo or erase photobombers.Pricing and availabilityThe Samsung Galaxy S4 will be offered at pretty much every carrier you can imagine, all over the globe. We're talking more than 320 carriers spread across over 120+ carriers.Samsung GALAXY S 4 will be available from Q2 globally including US, partnering with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, as well as US Cellular and Cricket.Sorry folks, there's no hard details yet as to when the actual release date is as Samsung only promises "late April". Customers will be able to pick up the device in multiple storage options: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be made available in 3G iterations as well as a 4G LTE model later this year. In terms of color, you can score the phone in Black Mist or White Frost. HTC extends deadline for trade-up credits toward HTC One Posted: 14 Mar 2013 01:58 PM PDT HTC, in what can only be construed as goodwill, has extended the time period for the trade-up program as it relates to the HTC One. Now, instead of only giving customers the remaining two weeks of March, HTC is giving them until the near-end of April.
There is no indication as to whether this has anything to do with the potential delay of the HTC One. We’re willing to give HTC the benefit of the doubt, however, and assume this is just their way of giving customers a bit more time. LG jabs Samsung with Times Square billboard Posted: 14 Mar 2013 06:59 AM PDT LG, proving that they aren’t afraid to throw rocks at a giant, has taken to Times Square with an ad of their own. Check out what is sitting directly above the Samsung teaser billboard in New York. Yep, LG has taken Samsung’s own play on the ’4′ and incorporated it into their own advertising. While the LG Optimus G is actually here for (4) us, it doesn’t have the widespread adoption that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will enjoy. By that, we mean there are only two carriers in the U.S. who offer the Optimus G. Perhaps the upgraded Optimus G Pro will get a wider blanket if and when it comes stateside. Kudos to LG for having the guts to give Samsung a taste of their own medicine; The next big thing is already here, right? Leaked Motorola device tips Google influence Posted: 13 Mar 2013 09:14 AM PDT So you want to see what a new, post-acquisition Motorola handset looks like now that Google is more (or not at all) involved. Behold the first few images and video of an unknown model that appears to be one of the first of such collaborations. To be clear, this is not the rumored X-Phone. This, rather, appears to be something entirely different. You’ll note that this model looks quite unlike recent Motorola designs in that it features a more rounded form factor. The back is also void of the Kevlar coating found in many recent handsets. Everything appears more curvy and less squarish.
Reportedly, the specifications include 2GB RAM, an Adreno 320 GPU, and a 4.65-inch 720P HD display. Again, not the stuff that we’d expect for the X-Phone, but still a welcome change of pace. Also noteworthy, the phone appears to have a stock Android 4.2 experience with only slight traces of Motorola widgetry. We’re liking the curves and new Motorola logo, the thinner bezel, and more comfortable design. As to how things go performance-wise remain to be seen. The video embedded below doesn’t exactly put the phone through any tough paces. With that in mind, let’s hop for an affordable mid-range experience that is offered across multiple carriers. Google IO 2013 sells out within 45 minutes Posted: 13 Mar 2013 07:50 AM PDT As if you might have expected anything else, Google I/O 2013 has sold out in a matter of minutes. How many minutes this time? Well, so far our unofficial report is that took only 45 minutes. To put that into perspective, let’s frame it against the last few years and the time it took to accomplish the feat.
Yes, it does seem that it took longer to sell 5,000 tickets to Google I/O 2013 than it did last year! Ohnoes, Android developer interest has fallen off! On the other hand, we saw plenty of reports from users getting that “wait” screen above just a matter of minutes into the registration period. We also heard from a number of you who waited the entire six minutes only to do it all over again. Google Wallet issues also seem to be pretty popular this morning. Until we hear officially (if we do), we’ll likely see conflicting reports as to how long it truly took. At $900 a ticket, the 3-day event has become quite the draw for Android developers. Maybe it’s the chance to rub elbows with like-minded individuals, maybe it’s the sandbox sessions and hands-on time. Maybe it’s the “freebies”; past gifts include HTC Ion, HTC Evo 4G, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung Chromebox, Samsung Chromebook, Nexus 4, Nexus Q, and Nexus 7. Whatever the reason, the conference has grown in popularity and seems to be matching Android’s draw. No ticket for you?
If you’re an Android developer who finds themselves in the unenviable position of not having a ticket, you can keep up with all things Google IO online. The Google+ page and YouTube channels are great ways to stay connected so definitely bookmark those. The post Google IO 2013 sells out within 45 minutes appeared first on AndroidGuys. |
HTC delay doesn’t apply to US models, says insider Posted: 13 Mar 2013 06:39 AM PDT With word of an HTC One delay hitting the internet yesterday, a number of you were wondering whether or not the flagship smartphone would arrive in March. Reportedly, the UK edition is pushed back two weeks from March 15 to March 29. As for the U.S. models, we had not heard anything on either side of the matter. According to our friends at HTC Source, the U.S. models will not be affected by the delay. A tipster on the inside claims that our localized editions are on their own timetable.
Of course, HTC has never given us a time frame for the release here in the United States and none of the carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile)have given any indication. With that in mind, there is technically no way for the HTC One to be delayed…yet. The post HTC delay doesn’t apply to US models, says insider appeared first on AndroidGuys. |
