Motorola ‘Ghost’, ‘Yeti’, and ‘Sasquatch’ code names leak Posted: 18 Mar 2013 01:18 PM PDT A trio of new Motorola code names surfaced today which could prove to be fun tracking over the next few weeks. According to Droid Life, the three models we ought to be keeping an eye on now are the Ghost, Yeti, and Sasquatch. Reportedly, two of these are AT&T-bound to be certain while the third is rumored for all four big players. The Ghost is the code name for the Motorola phone which leaked online last week and is also known by the model number of XT912A. Recent GLBenchmark details show the phone to run Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and feature a quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a 720p HD display, and on-screen navigation buttons. Reportedly, the “Ghost” will roll out to all four of the major wireless providers.
The Yeti also figures to run Android 4.2 and will find a home at AT&T, if not other places. Unfortunately, there are no hardware details to share at this point. As for the Sasquatch, it too will end up at AT&T and possibly other carriers. Running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the phone is also lacking any hard details. Google Play Music concept is the stuff we dream of Posted: 18 Mar 2013 09:24 AM PDT I was browsing a little website called Reddit (ever heard of it?) today when I came across a conceptual design for Google Play Music. Described as being the sort of desktop application for Google Play Music that the author/artist would like to see, it’s everything the tablet experience needs now. In short, it’s gorgeous, intuitive, and very Google-like. I’m partial to the way Google Now cards could be implemented into the experience, especially if it leads to purchasing tickets and CDs as well as the option to learn more about the artists. Other details I really like were the overall menu system, the persistent progress bar, and the right-click options that generally accompany Android’s long presses. I don’t know about you but this is the sort (or start) of Google Play experience we should have on a computer and/or Android tablet. Sure, space could be better used in some spots, but really, it’s leaps ahead of the stuff we have today. Let’s hope Google’s team catches wind of the concept and implements some of these features or touches in the actual experience! Note-taking program Google Keep slinks out, then quickly disappears Posted: 18 Mar 2013 09:03 AM PDT Google briefly released their note-taking application “Google Keep” on Sunday via Google Drive, and then quickly yanked it back out – but, not before screenshots were taken. The guys over at Android Police managed to get off a couple quick snapshots before everything went back down. Google Keep closely resembles Google Notebook, a service that was discontinued in 2009, that let users clip and organize info from around the web, as well as Evernote. Google Keep is a rambunctious beast to keep caged away from public view, too – A screenshot was accidentally leaked in a Google+ post back in July 2012, straight from Google’s own account. Some are expecting that Keep will come to the public very soon, while others speculate this was simply a “dev error” for a product not ready for release. Keep your news feeds pointed here for more information as it becomes available, and let us know your thoughts in the comments. via The post Note-taking program Google Keep slinks out, then quickly disappears appeared first on AndroidGuys. |
Sony intros Xperia SP and Xperia L for Q2 Posted: 18 Mar 2013 06:53 AM PDT Sony Mobile today introduced a pair of new Android smartphones, the Xperia SP and Xperia L. The two handsets are expected to get worldwide rollouts in the second quarter, however exact timing and carrier availability is unclear. The two smartphones feature quite a bit in common, including NFC connectivity, Sony’s media apps (WALKMAN, Album, Movies), One-touch functions for sharing, and Battery STAMINA Mode. The Xperia SP features a 4.6-inch HD Reality Display, BRAVIA Engine 2, 1GB RAM, up to 8GB storage, microSD, and 8-megapixel camera. Powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Xperia SP boasts a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro dual-core processor. The Xperia L also runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but employs a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, up to 8GB internal storage (microSD expansion), and 8-megapixel rear camera. Don’t hold your breath for any U.S. releases, especially with a particular carrier. Sony has not done much in the recent past to offer their Xperia line with anyone outside of AT&T; most Xperia phones are sold as unlocked models. Samsung Game Pad seemingly confirms 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 3 Posted: 18 Mar 2013 06:15 AM PDT Among the many official Galaxy S4 accessories from Samsung, there’s one in particular that caught our eye. It’s called the “Game Pad” and it appears to be nothing more than a Samsung-branded MOGA-like controller. Presumably connected via Bluetooth, the device also locks in various smartphones. Where things get interesting are in the specifications which indicate support for 4-inch up to 6.3-inch smartphones. Seeing as how Samsung has yet to announce anything with that screen size, it stands to reason this is the display size for the upcoming Galaxy Note 3. We’ve heard plenty on this front regarding the screen size for the presumed smartphone but this seems to be a little more on the official side. 5.2-inch LG ‘Megalodon” rumored as Nexus 5 Posted: 18 Mar 2013 05:37 AM PDT How about a nice, juicy-yet-unconfirmed- rumor to get your week started? The team over at AndroidAndMe recently posted what they suggest could be the next Nexus smartphone, the LG-manufactured Nexus 5. Allegedly operating under the code name of ‘Megalodon’, the phone sounds like a cross between next-level awesome and fantasy. Reportedly, the specifications include the following:
We’re not sure just how legit this stuff is; plenty of things seem a tad out-there. Not that we wouldn’t mind having these specs, mind you. Is Google ready to jump back into bed with LG for another Nexus? If so, would it feature such hardware as 3GB RAM and 16-megapixel rear camera? Looking back at the previous iterations of Nexus products, I’m inclined to say this may not be a Nexus 5. Why? Typically, the Nexus line is not the top-of-the-line hardware but more of a base line of where hardware should be at that particular moment. I’d love nothing more than to be wrong here!
