Weekend wallpapers: 23 Android wallpapers with bokeh effect Posted: 03 May 2013 10:42 AM PDT Looking to change up your Android home screen? It doesn’t get much easier than swapping out the wallpaper; it’s one of the quickest ways to breath new life into the mobile experience. We recently began curating a collection of wallpapers for you, dear reader, and are only too happy to share the goods! We’ll be adding to the collection on a regular basis and will occasionally highlight a theme or specific artist’s work we really appreciate. ABOUT THIS THEME: This collection of wallpapers is based around the common theme of Bokeh! This is the first in what we expect could be an ongoing series. In putting this gallery together we came across many worthy images which should ultimately find their way into our collection. We simply love the way our icons and widgets seem to stand out from the blurred and beautiful backgrounds.

AT&T hopes to offer ‘All In One’ prepaid option this June Posted: 03 May 2013 10:37 AM PDT AT&T announced it’s plans to launch a new prepaid service under the “All In One” brand this June, according to sources. The carrier will likely offer a $35 per month service for select feature phones and a $50 per month service for smartphones. AT&T’s All In One brand will include unlimited talk and text as well as a data allotment (it’s unclear how much) for $35 per month for their selected feature phones. For smartphones, the carrier is looking to offer unlimited talk and text (with 2GB of HSPA data) for $50. The carrier may also offer a $70 smartphone plan that includes 5GB of data, but that is still uncertain. Sources say that AT&T will begin testing the plans in Florida and Texas this month, and has scheduled a tentative nationwide launch for June 15. (Let it be noted that the details of the plans could change before then.) AT&T’s new emphasis on prepaid shouldn’t be a surprise. They have been working on increasing sales of their high-end LTE smartphones lately, which would free up space on their HSPA network. At some point, AT&T hopes to cover around 270 million POPs with LTE by the end of this year.

Google hires ‘Chief Game Designer at Android Play Studio’ Posted: 03 May 2013 07:12 AM PDT This is interesting stuff… Google has reportedly hired one Noah Falstein to be their next (or is it first?) chief game designer. According to a cached version of his LinkedIn profile, he was initially tapped to be the Chief Game Designer at Android Play Studio. Hmm. Considering Google doesn’t officially develop games or have an Android Play Studio (that we know of), the hire is worth keeping an eye on. Google has dabbled in games through the Niantic Labs team (Ingress) but we’ve yet to see anything concrete that signals a more “official” desire. It’s worth reminding that Google is also rumored to be considering a Game Center of sorts for Android games. Perhaps we could see something that features Google+ leaderboards and achievements across select titles. Or, maybe Android Play Studio is Google’s pet project for fostering development and backing other developers. Whatever the case, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Mr. Falstein. Barnes & Noble add Google Play Store to Nook HD tablets Posted: 03 May 2013 06:07 AM PDT Barnes & Noble announced on Friday that the Nook HD and Nook HD+ will now feature the Google Play Store. Yes, the eReader that became a quasi-Android tablet has become a full-fledged Android tablet. The Google Play Store will be available immediately for download from bn.com and will be deployed to devices via a Wi-Fi update in the next few days. Once installed, users will have access to apps such as Gmail, Chrome, YouTube, and more.
It’s unclear, exactly, as to why B&N decided to integrate the full breadth of Google Play apps and services however the most likely scenario is pressure and competition. With other Android tablets offering more hardware for less money, and access to B&N NOOK apps, the Nook HD has struggled to sell as well.
