HTC finally explains lack of microSD slots in US/UK versions of HTC One, no love for Big Red Posted: 23 May 2013 08:13 AM PDT One of the best phones on the market right now, the HTC One, has done a pretty decent job in terms of sales, but possibly not as well as it could have done. Many questions remain about why the device isn’t coming to Verizon, and why there aren’t any microSD card slots in the US and UK models. HTC’s Senior Global Online Communications Manager, Jeff Gordon, finally gave us an answer to our questions. MicroSD Drama— Many consumers were confused at why Asia’s version of the HTC One included microSD slots and the US and UK models did not. Apparently, this decision came down to a factor of space. The Chinese version of the HTC One is designed specifically for the smaller Chinese radio bands, and therefore there was additional space in the device to add microSD slots. This was seemingly the case with the Japanese version as well. This space was not available in the global version, and therefore, the lack of microSD card slots. Why No Love for Big Red? — Gordon didn’t really give a full answer here as to why the HTC One isn’t offered on America’s most popular carrier. He said that “it’s always a great thing to have our phones on as many operators as possible, but we’ve got nothing to announce in terms of Verizon.” While this doesn’t mean the device will never come to Verizon, it certainly does put a dark cloud over rumors that the HTC One would be coming to Big Red. There are some rumors saying that perhaps Verizon wanted its own special version of the One but HTC wasn’t willing to comply. Only time will tell. Source: TechRadar

Google Glass Explorer Edition shows up on Craigslist for $6,000 Posted: 23 May 2013 06:40 AM PDT As stated in the Google Glass Terms of Sale, it is absolutely forbidden for a user to sell their pair of Google Glass Explorer Edition. So, in a display of blatant disregard and price inflation, one crafty user is selling their pair for $6,000 on Craigslist. While Google did put some measurements in place to keep the early models from changing hands, Google does not plan on bricking any of the Explorer devices. The post featured photos of the box and the Glass in its original packaging and appears to be the real deal. Whether or not they are functional is another question entirely. The poster has come up with a nifty way around the Glass’s one personal account limit by connecting the device to an empty account, which will also be sold/transferred to the prospective buyer. What do you think? Would you pay $6,000 to have the coolest new gadget before everyone else, or would you prefer to wait until next year when it is formally released to the public. Samsung sells over 10 million S 4s and announces four new colors for summer Posted: 23 May 2013 06:08 AM PDT Considering Samsung cleaned house in the first quarter of 2013, it comes as no surprise that Samsung has sold over 10,000,000 Galaxy S 4s since April 26th. Unsurprisingly, this puts the S 4 at the top of the list for the years highest selling phones, easily beating the S 3s record of 10,000,000 units in 50 days. As if the world needs more reasons to buy the S 4, Samsung has announced four new colors for the device for release this summer. In addition to Blue Arctic and Red Aurora (pictured above), Samsung also has plans for a Purple Mirage and a Brown Autumn variant. The S 4 will also be available in 45 more markets by the end of the year, making the wildly popular handset available in 155 countries. Source: Samsung

Samsung tablet concept with flexible display leaks with specs Posted: 23 May 2013 05:51 AM PDT Samsung’s fabled flexible displays are one of the most hotly anticipated technological developments in recent memory, and today MobiLeaks has brought us a leaked concept showing off one such display. As you can see in the picture, this leak is a full render of a new Samsung 10″ tablet, and if thats not enough, the leak came with some specs too. The flexible screen is a full 1080p HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels) and has a front facing 3-megapixel camera. Inside is Samsung’s very own Exynos 5 Octa processor clocked at 1.6 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, an 8000 mAh battery and 16 or 32 GB storage options, expandable via a microSD card slot. As you can see in the photo, the device bends close to the bottom, revealing a built-in stand. Curiously, the point at which it bends doesn’t seem to be big enough to fit a comfortable QWERTY keyboard, leaving one to question what function Samsung has planned for that part of the screen. Also surprising is the lack of a rear camera, though the thinness of the top half of the tablet is probably to blame for that. The render definitely leads to a ton of speculation, mostly when can I buy one. Curiously, LG will also be debuting a flexible screen this week and may even get theirs to market before Samsung. Let us know in the comments what you think of the render, and if you’d be interested in owning this tablet. Via: Phone Arena Source: MobiLeaks

Twitter introduces two-factor authentication for log-ins Posted: 22 May 2013 10:16 PM PDT
Twitter is an extremely popular social media site, and like all other popular services, it suffers from its share of security concerns. Well, today Twitter is stepping up to help ease some of those security issues by introducing two-factor authentication for accounts. Basically, you can set up your account to require a confirmed phone number to verify you whenever you log into Twitter from a new location. This cuts down on unauthorized use from someone stealing your credentials and logging into your account miles away. Setup is simple; go to your account settings page, check the option to require a verification code when you sign in, and set up a phone number. Each time you try to log into Twitter after that, you’ll be sent a text message with a six-digit pin number that you’ll have to put in on Twitter to gain access to your account. As always, picking a strong password and not sharing it is the best way to keep your account secure, but accidents do happen, so it’s nice to have a fallback plan if and when they happen. source: Twitter
