Samsung announces 5 new colors for their Galaxy S 4 Posted: 20 Jun 2013 04:14 PM PDT This one we definitely expected. With sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 skyrocketing it only made sense to offer more color options for the device. Today they announced 5 new colors for their beloved S 4: Blue Arctic, Purple Mirage, Red Aurora, Brown Autumn, and Pink Twilight. As always, there’s no news as to when these colors will hit the states side, although we do know that AT&T nabbed exclusive rights to the Red Aurora color just as they did with the Red Galaxy S 3.

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 04:05 PM PDT If you were to talk about an insane amount of specs all crammed into one device, the Ativ Q would definitely be part of that list. Today Samsung announced their Ativ Q device and it sure packs a whallop. The Ativ Q is essentially a dual-booting device that can run both Windows and Android and sports a 13.3″ screen with a resolution of, wait for it, 3200 x 1800! To make things even better, it also has what I deem as some sort of convertible mode that changes it to a tablet mode, laptop mode and this odd mode where it’s floating on top of the keyboard.
As for internal specs, this will don Intel’s Core i5 Haswell processor and according to Samsung will produce around 9 hours of battery life. The tablet/laptop will also come with Samsung’s popular S-Pen, so you can expect it to have plenty of features that will utilize it. This is certainly a device to watch for. The dual-booting feature and the different ways you can use this device will be a huge selling point for Samsung, so I’m definitely anxious to see more of this device as the months pass. Stay tuned! source: The Verge

Samsung targeting Photog-Enthusiasts with latest Galaxy Camera NX unveiling Posted: 20 Jun 2013 03:47 PM PDT A week ago, several leaked shots of Samsung’s Galaxy Camera NX surfaced and gave us what to expect for today’s announcement. Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Camera NX in an attempt to tap into the market of photography enthusiasts. The camera supports inter-changeable lenses in which Samsung offers 13 different types of them. At the back-side, there are no buttons as it sports a 4.8″ capacitive LCD touch-screen so it works more or less like a cell phone. If your’e familiar with Samsung’s Galaxy S 3 or Galaxy S 4 devices then the interface will be nothing new to you as it features Samsung’s TouchWiz UI alongside Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. If you’re interested in checking out the full press release alongside the full spec sheet, hit the source link below! Is this something you might be interested in? I’m curious to see if this gets any attention with amateur photographers out there, let me know! source: Samsung

Facebook announces video on Instagram for Android and iOS Posted: 20 Jun 2013 10:53 AM PDT
For a few days, rumors have been flying around that video was coming to Instagram. Today Facebook officially announced it at a small press event. Obviously meant to compete with Vine, Instagram 4.0 allows users to record up to 15 seconds of video footage, apply a filter, and post on your profile among the other photos you have posted. They also introduced a new “Cinema” stabilization feature that improves the quality and reduces the shakiness of your videos, similar to the shake-reduction feature YouTube already has. 13 brand new filters were created for video on Instagram. The glaring advantages that video on Instagram has over Vine is filters, the ability to delete and redo scenes in your video, and a longer 15 second maximum video length. The last time Facebook tried to capitalize on a trending app was Poke, designed to compete with Snapchat. That idea flopped, so it will be interesting to see if Instagram can successfully steal users away from Vine this time. With all the additional features Instagram 4.0 has, and Vine having a new, still buggy Android app, I think Facebook has a shot. After the break is the Play Store download link. The update isn’t live yet, but should be any minute.

Disney releases Where’s My Mickey? for smartphones and tablets Posted: 20 Jun 2013 09:53 AM PDT Continuing to capitalize on the success of their Where’s My Water? game, Disney has released a new title as part of the franchise. Where’s My Mickey? uses the same base for gameplay, but is adorned with classic Disney characters and art-style inspired by the Disney Channel’s new series of Mickey toons. The game is based on life-like physics models that simulate weather and water as the user works to collect water in the process of completing each level. Users can control certain weather elements like wind, clouds and rain as they maneuver through more than 100 levels. At least initially, the game includes Mickey, Goofy and Pluto, but Disney promises more characters are on the way, probably via in-app purchases of add-ons. This game follows in the footsteps of Where’s My Perry?, which used characters from the Phineas and Ferb show. Disney has released two versions of the game, one for smartphones for $0.99 and one for tablets for $1.99. Check out the screenshots and video below. If you are interested in giving Where’s My Mickey? a try, hit the appropriate Google Play download link. Click here to view the embedded video. Verizon sending out Samsung Galaxy S 3 update, hopefully addresses LTE connectivity issues Posted: 20 Jun 2013 09:45 AM PDT Verizon began pushing out update VRBMF1 update to their variant of the Samsung Galaxy S 3 last night which will hopefully address connectivity issues that users were previously having with the device. Since there are currently no support documents that detail the changes in the update, we won’t know for sure until they release said documents or at least a statement about the update. The update should be live for everyone with the device on Verizon, so go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update to get it. Let us know if that fixed your issues and if your LTE connection stabilizes. Source: Verizon

Qualcomm announces six variants of Snapdragon 200 processor for emerging markets in press release Posted: 20 Jun 2013 08:10 AM PDT In a new press release by Qualcomm, they announced that the company has come out with 6 variants to their Snapdragon 200 processor, built for devices that won’t break the bank. It’s clear that Qualcomm is focusing their efforts here on emerging markets, and on consumers that don’t need higher-end devices, or simply can’t/won’t spend money on a higher-end device with a processor such as the Snapdragon 800. The six variants feature Adreno 302, and will offer enough horsepower to perform all the standard tasks one would need a smart phone to do, on the networks people need them to be on. The configurations are complete with support for HSPA+ 21 and TD-SCDMA 3G networks, and will come in standard, Dual-SIM Dual-Standby, Dual-SIM Dual-Active and Tri-SIM Tri-Standby configurations. The chipset is made to be fully functional with Android, Firefox OS, and Windows Phone as well. These chips won’t make their way to the western hemisphere, but they certainly are key to the company’s expansion and pushing technology to those that don’t have it yet. Check after the break for Qualcomm’s full press release on the matter.

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 08:00 AM PDT As the @DroidLanding Twitter account said it would, the ‘Droid Combat: Mission Alpha’ augmented reality application was released to the Play Store today. It looks pretty interesting and it’s a neat concept, and while the video mentions that there are “90 days until world domination occurs,” it’s unlikely that this means anything regarding a new phone. This “hint” (if you want to call it that) would place any kind of new phone launch in late-September, which seems like a pretty far way from now— especially because the buzz from this game is not expected to last more than a month. But Verizon could always prove us wrong of course— after all, the last time they did something like this, the release of the Droid Bionic followed. Check out the link to the game in the Play Store after the break if you want to download this 50MB chunk of data to your device.
