Top 10 Android app updates: Redbox Instant, GO Weather EX, Skype Posted: 06 Jul 2013 01:19 PM PDT Welcome back to the return of our weekly Top 10 Android App Updates column, where we take a look at the most upgraded apps for the week. I've found that one of the best ways to discover useful apps is to look at what people are actually updating, not focus on which apps have the most installs. As in the past, we’re going to filter out minor updates for the super popular apps that have over 10 million installs, but I'm going to make an exception for apps that had significant updates. I hope you enjoy this weekly feature and discover some apps that you might find useful. Snapchat – Version 3.0.1What’s new in this version:
Snapchat is a great app for sharing those special moments in your life. You can easily add captions and share your photos and videos with friends. The update gives the Snapchat user interface a good overhaul and improves search functionality. Skype – Version 4.0.0.17847What’s new in this version:
The team behind Skype values the opinions of it’s users and decided to redesign the application accordingly. The Skype app will also add tablet-focused changes in the near future. GO Weather Forecast & Widgets - Version 4.0.9What’s new in this version:
GO Weather EX is one of the top weather forecast apps available. The 4.5 rating alone should be enough of a reason for you to check out this app. Redbox Instant by Verizon – Version 1.2What’s new in this version:
Redbox Instant is a great and inexpensive way to watch a movie either on the go, or in conjunction with an HDMI cable out to your TV. The new update helps ensure the movie you are watching isn’t interrupted by the application crashing. NOOK – Read Books & Magazines - Version 3.4.0.89What’s new in this version:
If you are an avid reader, you should take a look at the NOOK application. HD Magazines look great on high resolution devices. OneNote- Version 15.0.1827.2300 What’s new in this version:
OneNote is one of those apps that either you never use or you use all the time. The addition of Office 365 document support is a welcome addition to this app. JAY Z Magna Carta – Version 2.0What’s new in this version:
JAY Z and Samsung decided to let Samsung users grab this new album a few days before general release tomorrow, July 7th. Makes sure to download this app now if you are a Samsung device owner. Pixel Artist – Camera Effects - Version 1.3.0What’s new in this version:
Pixel Artist is another good app to take your photos and give them an artistic flare by adding effects to them. The number of effects provided grows with every update. DirecTV – Version 2.5.1What’s new in this version:
It’s nice to see the DirecTV app add support for voice. This is a great app to stream content anywhere in your house and even stream certain channels when you are away from home. Facebook – Version VariesWhat’s new in this version:
The Facebook app has seen significant improvement over time and it’s nice to see you can now get access to their upcoming versions as a beta tester. |
Motorola DROID MAXX leaked image shows off Kevlar shell, capacitive buttons Posted: 06 Jul 2013 09:53 AM PDT A leaked image of the Motorola Droid MAXX for Verizon is making its way across the web, giving us a clear look at the front of the phone. The design of the Motorola Droid MAXX isn’t much of a departure from devices like the RAZR M or RAZR HD, but it will be the first Motorola device in quite some time to not feature any logos on the front. The Droid MAXX trades in on-screen buttons for capacitive ones and the volume and power buttons visibly protrude from the right edge of the device. While little in known about the Motorola Droid MAXX, the handset is associated with the XT1080M, said to be an extended battery version of the XT1080 Motorola Droid Ultra. Since the Droid Ultra recently passed through the FCC and is expected to make its way to Verizon stores soon, it’s not too far of a stretch to assume the Motorola Droid MAXX will be tagging along for the ride.
