CyanogenMod has been oddly cryptic lately. The whole Nemesis thing was interesting, and gave us a really nice improvement to their camera app. This time around, they're tipping their hat a bit more, but the prospect of what's coming is very promising.
In a Google+ posting, CyanogenMod is offering info on what could be a turning point for customization. Nightly builds and custom ROMs, without the legwork? Now we're talking.
The simple question of "Have you ever desired an app that lets you to wake up in the morning with your favourite ROM ever updated to the last version?” was asked on the post. From there, Cyanogen went on to note their customizations could come via an OTA-like update, without the need for backups. Full customization, all done "without a touch".
For the non-modders out there, this change to the downloader makes CyanogenMod a much more viable option. The fussiness of customization puts many off. The need to sit down and back your device up, or download then flash a ROM, is tedious for the average consumer.
If CyanogenMod is prepared to offer their ROMs free of the desktop, the customization game really is changing. Just when we worried the mobile atmosphere had gotten away from them, CyanogenMod comes right back with a very promising option.
We'll be sure to keep an eye on this one.
