Samsung continues along a path that has them updating their Galaxy S 4 devices to take advantage of new hardware that is available now as opposed to what was available when the device launched. A little over a month ago Samsung officially “re-launched” the Galaxy S 4 with support for LTE-A and the new Snapdragon 800 processor in South Korea. It appears they are back at it again as an updated version of the Galaxy S 4 Active packing a Snapdragon 800 has surfaced on the GFXBench web site. The entry on the benchmarking site shows the Galaxy S 4 Active equipped with the MSM8974 chip.
The Galaxy S 4 Active is Samsung’s version of the Galaxy S 4 that has been ruggedized to meet IP67 requirements as water- and dust-proof. Unfortunately, the particular variant of the device that was discovered appears to be headed to SK Telecom only, similar to the LTE-A version of the Galaxy S 4. We can always hope Samsung will make the decision to expand availability to more markets.
