New chatter hitting the internet these past days suggest that Google is indeed readying a smartwatch with Google Now functionality at its core. The word comes directly on the heels of a Google+ report from Android Police lead Artem Russakovskii which indicates the project could be known as “Gem”. Given the “sooner rather than later” we should see some noise at the Android 4.4 KitKat debut which now seems likely for the end of October.
I posited, back in January, that a Google Now watch would make for a great wearable device. Nothing too deep into Android or with Play Store integration, but something that knows you and understands what’s most important. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have your watch alert you of sports scores, calendar appointments, stock prices, and other pertinent details without much else getting in the way?
