Posted: 27 Jan 2012 12:10 PM PST Take a look at your recently installed games and apps on your Android device. If you're among the potentially millions of Android users who downloaded one of the following apps then you will want to promptly uninstall them. Symantec has discovered 13 applications in the Android Market spread across three developers (iApps7 Inc, Ogre Games, redmicapps) which can be used to steal user information. Symantec has identified multiple publisher IDs on the Android Market that are being used to push outAndroid.Counterclank. This is a minor modification of Android.Tonclank, a bot-like threat that can receive commands to carry out certain actions, as well as steal information from the device...The combined download figures of all the malicious apps indicate that Android.Counterclank has the highest distribution of any malware identified so far this year. Here's the list of apps/games that Symantec has identified as being malicious. You'll want to stay away from them! We noticed that some of these are not showing up in the Android Market as of right now however most of them are still listed.

Posted: 27 Jan 2012 12:10 PM PST As technology is evolving, smart companies are taking advantage of the new tools available to make themselves more and more efficient. Toyota's Material Handling division has demonstrated a good example of this with their new app system (available on Android tablets and other devices), aimed at allowing forklift fleet managers to estimate fuel use and efficiency on a wide scale in their fleets. Armed with this data, they're then able to calculate fuel needed and make necessary changes to their fleet. While it's not flashy software or even software that would be widely used, it is a good example of how various industries are changing in these technology infused times. Check out the full presser after the break, and for the comments: What industries do you think could really benefit from implementing new mobile technologies?

Posted: 27 Jan 2012 11:32 AM PST Ouch. Remember back to just before the Super Bowl last February when Motorola was teasing their Android 3.0 Honeycomb powered tablet? Remember how it was going to change the whole idea of tablets and make the iPad look rough in comparison? Well, here we are one year removed and ready to report some MOTOFACTS. You already know from the headline but Motorola only sold one million tablets in 2011. That includes Wi-Fi only models, Verizon's 3G/4G LTE edition, and the stuff from around the world. Motorola shipped a whopping 1 million tablets in 2011 originally appeared on AndroidGuys. The numbers come from Motorola Mobility's latest earnings report where the company announced a lost of $80 million on revenue of $3.4 billion. Device shipments were 10.5 million whereas last year saw 11.3 million. Getting back to tablets, Motorola moved just 200,000 units in the fourth quarter. That busy quarter that included Black Friday and holiday shopping. Ouch. How did Apple do last year? Oh... only 15 million iPads over the same quarter. Looking ahead it will be interesting to see exactly what becomes of the Google acquisition. Will they gently steer Motorola into a specific direction, offer guidance on particular models, help with tablets? We'll find out before long whether or not Google is happy with that $12.5 billion. Posted: 27 Jan 2012 09:27 AM PST While we debate the veracity of the rumored Galaxy S III specifications, Samsung is in the midst of their own internal situation. More specifically, they are weighing whether or not to even announce the new handset series at Mobile World Congress in February. With about one month to go before the annual event, Samsung is said to be "reviewing several options when to launch." In other words, they have not ruled it out just yet. Will they, won't they? Samsung still weighing Galaxy S III announcement for MWC originally appeared on AndroidGuys. Speaking on an earnings call from earlier this week a Samsung executive acknowledged that such a device actually exists. When asked a question regarding a launch date, Mrs. Younghee Lee replied, "We are still reviewing several options when to launch. We will let you know when it's decided." Rumors surfaced just days ago that Samsung was going to hold off announcing the new flagship line at Mobile World Congress. One reason that has been tossed around is that the company doesn't like the long gap between international and U.S. versions. We're no fans of that agonizing wait either and would love to see our respective carriers pick up the models as soon as possible. Another reason for a possible delay might be in the testing of multiple versions of the Galaxy S III. We've heard from a number of places that Samsung has been prepping both a dual-core and a quad-core iteration of the handset. With only a few weeks to go between now and Mobile World Congress we're beginning to suspect the Galaxy S III won't be part of the agenda. Samsung will typically send out save the date emails or teasers for an "Unpacked" event well ahead of the show, something they've yet to do this time around.
