Annoyed by those pesky new Facebook icons? Here is how to get rid of them Posted: 28 Apr 2012 03:49 PM PDT
These apps work directly with the social network and allow you to chat it up with your buddies or share your images quickly with Facebook’s very own camera app. Said shortcuts may come in handy for some, but we noticed many of our readers were quite upset about this. We don’t need more bloatware, right? If you have been looking for a solution to this issue, developer Cory Charlton has come up with a handy app for root users. It will get rid of both applications. More exactly, it gets rid of the icons, as these services can’t exactly be completely taken off the phone – They are part of the main Facebook app. Facebook Icon Remover pretty much does the same job as many custom launchers. It hides the icons from your app drawer. This can also be done with most Android 4.0 devices, but manufacturers have the ability to disable this. If you don’t like launchers, and don’t have the ability to natively hide your apps, this may be your best bet. But remember, it is only for root users. It comes without saying that the usual disclaimer is applicable here. Rooting, flashing and tinkering with your device in any way may void your warranty and/or harm your device. Be careful, and don’t go blaming anyone if something bad happens. With that, head over to the Google Play Store if this is the app you need. How upset are you guys over Facebook adding these icons to your app drawer? Have you taken any measures to get rid of them? [Source: XDA Developers Via: XDA Developers] |
Apple and Samsung meeting date set for May 21st and 22nd Posted: 28 Apr 2012 12:52 PM PDT
Undoubtedly, the tension will be so strong that they will probably be able to hear each other’s thoughts in the room. But maybe the Court’s help will alleviate some of the very well-known differences (or similarities) between both parties. Until then, we will have to wait and see what may come out of this encounter, so stay tuned. [Source: FOSS Patents Via: The Verge] |
Apex Launcher Pro hits Google Play Posted: 28 Apr 2012 11:45 AM PDT
Rock Apex Launcher on your ICS phone? Then you might want to head over to Google Play and spend 4 of your hard-earned dollars on it. Or not, no pressure. Anyway, what do you get for your $4? Glad you asked:

HTC Evo 4G LTE coming on May 18? Posted: 28 Apr 2012 11:09 AM PDT
Earlier this morning, Good & Evo posted that a “reliable source with a proven track record” tipped them that the HTC EVO 4G LTE will be releasing on the 18th of May. They also managed to get their hands on a couple of images of publicity material that should be making it’s way to Sprint outlets over the next two weeks. Pre-orders open on May 7, for which you can set up reminders on Sprint or Best Buy’s website. The phone will set you back $199. [via Good and Evo] |
Meet Aisha. Micromax’s Siri for the Gingerbread powered A50 Ninja Posted: 28 Apr 2012 10:33 AM PDT
Ever since the Siri announcement during the unveiling of the iPhone 4S last year, there have been a slew of voice-based assistant apps for Android. And though I am yet to find one that performs as well as it claims to, there’s no denying the marketing potential of them. This makes the focus on Aisha in the publicity material for Micromax’s latest device for the Indian market, the Superfone A50 Ninja, understandable. First things first, the phone aims at the extreme low end, costing only Rs 4999 (USD 95). It runs Gingerbread on an undisclosed 650 MHz processor, packs a 3.1 inch screen and a 2-megapixel camera. Considering the price, it’s pretty impressive that Micromax has chosen to offer such a pre-loaded app. AISHA, which stands for Artificial Intelligence Speech Handset Assistant, was developed by Dexetra, the developer behind another voice-assistant, IRIS. I personally expect the phone to do well. It’s already the cheapest Android smartphone that I’ve heard of in the Indian market (I might be wrong about this since there are so many lower-end devices over here that it’s tough to keep track of). The presence of AISHA will undoubtedly make the A50 Ninja stand out. [via Engadget] |
Big fan of The Avengers? Get this Iron Man app NOW! Posted: 28 Apr 2012 09:50 AM PDT
If you’re a a fan of a certain Tony Stark, Loud Crow Interactive have a neat little way for you to spend about 15 minutes of your day. Their latest app (which had released a few weeks ago but came to my attention only now via AppBrain) tells the story of the various Iron Man suit iterations with an interactive comic. All the variants, from the Mark I that was developed in the caves of Afghanistan with limited resources, to the Mark VI which was built to fight Ivan Vanko and his Hammer Drones are featured in the app. There are also various actions that are performed on clicks, my favorite of which is Iron Man’s laser gun that destroys the bunch of Hammer Drones. There’s great audio from the movies throughout, and clicking on text has the characters read out their comments. All in all, it’s a great little app to go with the release of The Avengers movie. |
Eat a lot at TGI Friday’s? Now you can pay with your Android phone Posted: 28 Apr 2012 08:01 AM PDT
Fast-food chain TGI Fridays has come out with an Android app that not only allows you to do the basic stuff (such as find a TGI Friday in the first place, display the menu and also share promotions), but also allows you to open a tab and pay straight from your phone. They also say that you can find "some of our bartenders best tips on life...and living it up." Or, as I would suggest, you can just keep your phone in your pocket and live your life. So far, so good. However, just looking at the thumbnails in Google Play has me going "my eyes! my eyes!". Grey tabs? That too at the bottom? And screenshot from a FroYo device? What year is this, 2010? I dont know how the app is inside, since its not available in India, but its sad to see their marketing people to put in such a poor effort. [Google Play via Android Police] |
YouTube’s Google TV app updated, playback said to be more “smooooooooth” Posted: 28 Apr 2012 07:48 AM PDT
YouTubes Google TV app just got a whole lot better, adding a few neat features from the desktop site. Users will now find recommendations within the "My YouTube" tab, an improved search (which allows you to quickly find the channel youre looking for), smooooooooth playback*, and the ability to Plus 1 videos. *This is how Google TVs blog post puts it. How exactly? Well, if they realize that your bandwidth is low and causing you to buffer videos, then itll automatically shift to a lower resolution video. |

TmoNews has gotten their hands on an "Enterprise Calendar" for the carrier, thats given a little peak as what to expect from them over the next couple of months. Lets hope its not the full picture, though, because theres not much in there for the high end devices.
