Google has updated their Hangouts application in Apple’s App Store to add support for making voice calls, and some pretty neat Google Voice integration. That’s all well and good, but those improvements haven’t made it over to the Android app just yet. To be fair, this update also bakes in some of the features Android users have had for a while, but it’s just another one of those weird cases where Google implements functionality on iOS before Android. It doesn’t usually happen that way, but it seems like every once in awhile we do see it.
Now, it’s not all bad news. Vic Gundotra, who works on the Google+ team, commented on Google+ that Android users might have a few treats heading their way soon:
Guys, don’t worry. We have massive investment in Android. I promise you will be happy soon. Don’t get upset because we show some love to Google users who use iOS. There are a lot of them. And they are good people :-)
Trust me, I hate waiting just as much as the next person, but I have a feeling he’s hinting at some pretty big additions coming in the next few weeks with the Hangouts app. We’ll keep you updated.
