Posted: 28 Feb 2012 10:39 AM PST A week ago, Panasonic announced the Eluga for European market which is one of the thinnest smartphones available in the market right now. However at Mobile World Congress, Panasonic has officially unveiled Eluga Power, which is almost like Eluga. Have a look on the specs:
No words on the price or launch, but you can expect it in few months. It's a sexy device with an attractive form factor, and I hope to see this device in US market not just in Asia. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 09:55 AM PST The device has a sleek Scandinavian design, along with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower audio technology. It comes with Android 4.0, a 3.8-inch "ultra-sharp screen" with high resolution, a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (probably dual-core), 8 megapixel camera with flash, video light and front camera for video calling, NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi capability. However, no chances of it to hit USA, but it's expected to hit Europe and Asia during the first half of this year. The phone has a simple design and it really outstand when compared to other Android devices, especially the stainless steel and glass body, making it a luxury Android phone. Well, devices with so much bell and whistles are not cheap, so you can expect a huge price tag for it. I would guess around £500-600, but let's wait for Lumigon to announce it. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 09:39 AM PST A new "limited time" web-only promotion from US Cellular kicked off yesterday to include a $100 activation credit for customers activating any plan and any device. Several Android devices are also marked down during this promotion. The Huawei Ascend II and the HTC Wildfire S are both free at the moment, while the HTC Hero S is a measly $29.99 on a new contract. Remember this is an online purchase only promotion. They will waive the activation fee and include free shipping. Customers are also eligible for U.S. Cellular's Trade-In Program which could get you up to $150 on qualifying smartphones.
The HTC Hero S for cheap looks like the way to go, a 1.2ghz on a 4" SLCD display wouldn't be a bad thing at all. Head on over to US Cellular to learn more. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 09:23 AM PST Have you ever had one of those pesky "Star" advertisements in your notification drop down? Ever wondered where they come from? Well, it's likely they came from an ad service known as Airpush. With over 100% increase from last quarter, they are becoming one of the leading application monetization solutions for Android developers. I'm going to take this time to address an issue with the Airpush fiasco. I personally despise this type of service, essentially spamming its users with notifications that lead you to more spam. Thankfully there are several "airpush detector" type applications on the Android Market. We've covered the Lookout Ad Detector application in the past, and I would highly recommend it if you think your device has been compromised. It's very easy to determine if some of your applications are using the service to spam you. One discovered, it's suggested that you uninstall whatever applications are using Airpush and live happily ever after. As we had written previously, good software support (especially games) is important to the success of any hardware platform. All of these games look absolutely gorgeous and bring a console-level of polish to the mobile space. It's gonna be awesome to see when the Tegra 3 devices hit for consumers. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 08:48 AM PST Just few days ago, DigiTimes said that Google will launch Android 5.0 Jelly Bean in Q2 2012, and the update will be optimized for tablet PCs because somehow OEMs are not happy with ICS. Well, we aren't buying into it. We always prefer listening to the sounds right from the company; think of it and it happens. Google Exec spilled some beans about the next Android update which will be launched as Android 5.0 a.k.a Jelly Bean. ICS is still available to a very limited percentage of Android devices and wordon street is that Jelly Bean will be out in summer. At MWC, Google had few words with Computer World and stated that next update will be out in fall. Have a look on what Google Exec Hiroshi Lockheimer said:After Android 4 comes 5, and we haven't announced the timing yet, which we're still sorting out. There's a lot of engineering work behind it still, and there's also just the question of how to time it. In general, the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still.Folks, nothing is written in stone right now, so let's just wait for the official announcement. Google I/O is in June, and hopefully we will see Jelly Bean there. I think that Google will just make an announcement at the event and then after few months, they will make it available to the masses. As Jelly Bean will be more focused on "tablet PCs", there's a possibility that the next update is only for tablets; like Honeycomb. ICS was actually an attempt to gather all Android devices on same page. Fingers crossed. Tell us what do you think about Jelly Bean in the comment box below. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 08:25 AM PST It seems like anytime that Apple launches something that's already in existence, the media goes into maddened convulsions. Drop down notifications? Yeah, Apple wasn't the first to that. Split keyboard on a tablet? Nope, not first for that either (and still not the best). Such is the case with Siri. While no one can deny the conversational charm that Siri possesses, it certainly wasn't the first voice recognition software, and I still wouldn't necessarily consider it the best. Motorola seems to have the same doubts, and recently did promo videos of them putting Siri to the test versus Google's own Voice Actions. What was the verdict? Well, it wasn't in Siri's favor. Check out the video's below for the full rundown and let us know in the comments: Which voice recognition software do you use and how does it fair against Siri? Click here to view the embedded video. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 08:10 AM PST Ever download a handful of new apps only to find that one of them is a huge battery drain? Something, somewhere is chewing through your battery levels and you can't quite figure out which one it is. Trend Micro understand this situation happens quite a bit so they created a new app to help users get more from their handsets. Take a look at their beta application, Longevity Batter Saver. Leveraging the power of the mighty cloud, Trend Micro's app is able to look through your new apps and games and determine which of them are going to have a big impact on your precious juice. In addition to analyzing the guilty apps, Longevity Battery Saver also alerts users when their handset begins to consume battery quicker than normal. This way you can swoop into action and turn off GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, or kill a few games running in the background. For those of you who want to extend the device as long as possible without going completely off the grid, you'll enjoy the Just-A-Phone mode which enables voice and text without much else. Rest assured knowing that people can still reach you if they need to but without all the other little stuff sipping on your battery. Features:

Strangely unavailable for Honeycomb tablets, Android MWC is a mobile companion to everything Android in Barcelona this week. Features in the app are pretty much what one would expect out of its kind and include booth details, partner maps, a list of apps features at MWC, and photo notes. Perhaps the coolest part of the client is the ability to track all of the Android Pins with a checklist. Posted: 28 Feb 2012 06:25 AM PST SwiftKey is in Barcelona this week, chatting up their uber-smart keyboard alternative with handset and tablet makers. To take things even further, the guys have announced that they are now allowing smartphone and other device makers the opportunity to utilize their technology by way of an SDK. Should a manufacturer want to use the software development kit, they'll be tapping into the stuff that makes SwiftKey X one of our favorite keyboard options. This means support for more than 40 languages, leading-edge word prediction and correction, and a friendly UI for typing. We've seen other keyboard options come pre-loaded on smartphones and tablets, but how would you feel about SwiftKey technology on your next Android? SwiftKey launches SDK for handset and device manufacturers OEMs can integrate SwiftKey's powerful language technology into their devices to improve core typing experience 27 February, 2012; Barcelona, Spain – SwiftKey™ (http://www.swiftkey.net), the company behind the award-winning SwiftKey X keyboard for Android™ smartphones, is making the core language-engine technology that powers its app available to OEMs. The move will allow handset and device manufacturers to embed SwiftKey's smart language technology into their own devices through a Software Development Kit (SDK).SwiftKey X has already proven immensely popular as a stand-alone app. It has been downloaded over five million times, making it one of the most popular paid for applications on the planet in its category. In addition, SwiftKey's technology has been shortlisted for the Most Innovative App in this year's GSMA Global Mobile Awards at Mobile World Congress. The SDK enables tablet and handset manufacturers to offer cutting edge prediction and correction technology in their products, powered by SwiftKey's Natural Language Processing language engine. OEMs can build SwiftKey's core technology into their own keyboard and UI, to improve the core user experience of their devices. The SDK introduces a range of new features in addition to those currently available on SwiftKey X, with support for over 40 languages, including Arabic, Korean and Spanish. Dr Ben Medlock, CTO of SwiftKey explains: "As we are interacting with more devices, technology that accurately understands what a user is trying to say or do with their devices is vital. It only takes a cursory look at user groups to realise that typing is one of the biggest frustrations that people have on tablets and smartphones. The launch of our SDK will give OEMs access to better typing experience, with their own look and feel." "The SDK will also enable other consumer technology devices, beyond the tablet and smartphone, to receive the benefits of our unique language engine. We have already seen interesting applications of our language engine in Smart TVs and assistive technology devices." SwiftKey SDK supports the following platforms and languages:
