BlackBerry's BBM messaging service will be available on Samsung Galaxy Android smartphones in Africa "soon," according to recent ads that were aired in the region during a football (soccer) match.
CrackBerry readers from South Africa saw such ads yesterday during the Manchester United vs Chelsea game. The commercial apparently said that BBM is coming to the Galaxy S4 soon – and, obviously, to other Galaxy-branded devices – although an actual launch date was not provided.
The ad was briefly published on Samsung's Ghana YouTube ad but was subsequently pulled. However, Samsung Ghana has also teased BBM for Galaxy smartphones on its Facebook page:
Another messenger is coming on Samsung phones sooner than you think........what is it?
While Samsung Ghana confirmed in replies to fans that it's indeed talking about BBM, it did not mention any roll out dates for the service.
This isn't the first time we hear BlackBerry's iconic messaging system is going to be launched in Africa for Samsung Galaxy smartphones, which seems to be an important marketing push for the South Korean company.
The messaging system will likely be available on other Android devices as well, and in other markets too, although it's not clear when BlackBerry will launch the app.
Once launched for Galaxy devices, the app will be available from the Google Play Store but also from Samsung's app store.
