New details published this week suggest NVIDIA is working on a Tegra Tab for release in the near future. The information is light at this stage, and mostly just speculation, but looks to include a 7-inch display, NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 processor, micro-HDMI and support for a stylus. The images landing online show a Nexus 7-like design with the textured backside and horizontal orientation. Reportedly, NVIDIA filed for a “Tegra Tab” trademark in April so it stands to reason we might see this in the United States.
It will be interesting to see how things develop for NVIDIA and whether the Tegra 4 picks up any traction in the tablet or smartphone field. We were really impressed with that low-cost Kai reference for 7-inch tablets however it never really caught on like we had hoped. Perhaps this new tablet is them taking things into their own hand, producing hardware much like the Shield.
We’ll be watching how this unfolds over the next few weeks or months.
