There are many cross platform messaging apps out there. Google’s pushing forward (we think) with Hangouts and Blackberry Messenger may someday grace our devices someday. However even as such, there those who would prefer to have Apple’s iMessage available to them. It was only a matter of time before a developer would somehow figure out a way to make that happen. That developer, is Daniel Zweigart. He created a third party solution that actually works.
However, according to some that have tested this app it may not be at all safe. As Adam Bell, a software engineer, stated on Twitter:
“I 100% do not trust that apk, but it does work with test accounts lol”
Of course, this app couldn’t work at all without a little bit of hackery and spoofing. According to Mr. Bell, the app spoofs the iMessage server by making it think that you’re connected through a Mac Mini. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Another developer by the handle Saurik discovered that all communications are forward to the developer’s server in China. That could mean that all your messages are being stored on that very server.
One final aspect about this app is that it has the ability to download other applications in the background. While Google has a firm stance against such actions, that wouldn’t stop a malicious developer from doing so.
It’s easy to not recommend the installation of this app. The message that should be taken away from this is that while an app may work, it may do so with less than honest intentions. An app like iMessage Chat gives you the ability to chat with your iPhone carrying buddies, but the convenience may come at a cost. If you’re dying to play with the app then you can find the link in the source article. If you do so, we only recommend that you do so with a dummy account that has nothing personal connected to it.
