Xiaomi, the low-cost smartphone device manufacturer that recently lured Hugo Barra away from Google, is back in the news again with their announcement that they are poised to start selling a new smart TV device in October dubbed the Mi-TV. The 47-inch television will come with a 1080p full HD, 3-D display. Powering the screen will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of memory. Xiaomi is also including a variety of streaming content standards like Miracast, Airplay, and DLNA to help users take advantage of their devices. The device will run Xiaomi’s heavily modified version of Android called MUIU that has been customized even further for the Mi-TV.
Thus far, Xiaomi is only selling their devices in China and Taiwan and the Mi-TV’s availability is expected to be the same. Xiaomi indicates the Mi-TV will be available starting in October for 2999 yuan ($490 USD).
