New chatter surfacing today suggests that Google could be but days away from introducing the next-generation Nexus smartphone. Presumed to be the Nexus 5, the phone is expected to be the first to power Android 4.4 KitKat. We’ve previously heard that Google was shooting for mid-October for the debut, even down to the date of October 14.
At the event, developers have been served lashings of Key Lime Pie — the planned name for the next update — and KitKat bars — which lent their name to the update at the last minute.
Reportedly, the new confirmation comes from "whispers around the campfire at Google Launchpad," a two-week bootcamp for developers. If this proves to be accurate we could see Google unveiling the aforementioned device and platform just ahead of Apple’s next big product launch. We may even get to see a Nexus 10 refresh, which is likely to come from Asus.
