LG Spectrum Getting Gingerbread 2.3.6 Thanks To Build VS920ZV5

Say what you will about Verizon’s LG Spectrum and whether you love it or hate it, it’s finally getting Gingerbread.  Build VS920ZV5 will be gracing the device and with it will come quite a few changes.  A few apps such as the NFL Mobile 4.0, Google Play Store, Amazon Kindle App and My Verizon will all receive tweaks for the better.  In addition, there will be a few bug fixes coming to address the calendar alerts, WiFi network search force closes and more to accompany the update.  No official release date has been given just yet but be patient.  We’re positive this won’t be a long wait at all.

Expect Verizon Shared Data Plans By Mid-Summer

Just to seal the deal and further confirm Vz’s up and coming shared data plans, CFO Francis Shammo during a Q1 earnings report, stated that they’re aiming for a go around mid-summer.  The expectation is that this will indeed further drive growth in the wireless industry with an expectation that many will find it easy to just add more devices to their plan.  We’ll see if the strategy pans out, which I’m sure it will.  There are many families harboring a fear in adding more data lines to their plan and rightfully so.  It’s increasingly difficult to add another data line without forking over your first born, or even worse, an arm and a leg :)

HTC Reveals One of Two Official Case Designs for the HTC One X

Worried about scratching your new, or soon to be new, HTC One X? Then you need to check out this new case designed exclusively by HTC, for the HTC One X. What you see in the image above is an upcoming perforated case for the device that will be available in four colors as it was shown off today at an HTC hosted event in Seattle. Event attendees are reporting that this is only one of two designs that HTC has created for the phone, and it is believed that they should be available around the time AT&T launches their One X. No word on price or what the other design will look like, so I guess we will just have to wait until these fancy kit covers are released.

Pre-order Inventory of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus is Sold Out

We sure hope you pre-ordered you Galaxy Nexus with-in the last two days. If not, you are SOL, and I’m sure I don’t have to spell that out for you. As depicted in the image above the Sprint customers have exhausted the pre-order inventory for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Apparently this 4.65-inch display, running stock Android 4.0 device is much more sought after than Sprint anticipated. It’s not everyday you see a pre-order out of stock, and in 3 days for that matter.

All Sprint can say for itself is:

“Pre-order sold out! Our Galaxy Nexus pre-order inventory has been spoken for. Check back on April 22 for the national launch.”

I’ll just go ahead and say it. Looks like myself, along with many others are going to have to wait until April 22nd to get in an order for this latest LTE Android phone from Sprint. All I know is the Now Network better be prepared and stock up on the Gnex for the official release. I have a feeling these thing will be flying off the shelves.

The Tegra 3 Toshiba Excite 7.7 Passes Through the FCC, To Retail for $499 on June 10th

When shopping for a new Android tablet it is safe to say that picking one in the Tegra 3 flavor is the way to go. While there aren’t many slates yet to adorn such a powerful chip, a recent FCC filing shows that a new addition to the Toshiba Excite line-up is on its way. According to the FCC filing spotted by Engadget, the Toshiba Excite 7.7 (AT270) is headed for store shelves and should arrive on June 10th for $500.

As a reminder, the Excite 7.7 is the smaller version of the 10 and even 13-inch models but this ultra portable speed demon doesn’t fail to impress. The Excite 7.7 comes with a 7.7-inch (1280 x 800) AMOLED display and will feature stereo speakers, micro SD, micro USB, and micro HDMI. Measuring in at only 7.62mm thin, the 7.7 only weighs 13.4 ounces or 380 grams. Available June 10th, she will be priced at a seemingly expensive $499.99 for the 16GB model and $579.99 for the 32GB model. Surprisingly, the Excite 7.7 will have a better display than the bigger siblings, which is why it costs $50 more than the Excite 10.

Sprint Nextel Sued By The State Of New York For $300 Million Because Of Tax Fraud [Updated with Sprint's Response]

Sprint Nextel may be as successful as they come and is the 3rd-largest mobile carrier in the United States, but they may be in a heap of trouble. Reuters reports that the State of New York has filed a suit against the mobile carrier citing major mispractices carried out. Among the major accusations are Sprint failing to bill its customers $100 million for its wireless services over seven years according to the complaint filed by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Schneiderman has his reasoning for this too as he states:

“Sprint’s decision not to collect and pay taxes was part of the Overland Park, Kansas-based company’s nationwide effort to lure customers from rivals such as AT&T Inc and Verizon Wireless, and make its service $4.6 million less expensive per month”.

It looks as if New York is out for major retributions too, as it is looking for a whopping $300 million total resulting from the amount underpaid multiplied three times plus penalties. Let’s just hope this doesn’t affect upcoming devices such as the upcoming HTC EVO 4G LTE.

Update:

Sprint obviously doesn’t agree and just responded with the following statement:

"This complaint is without merit and Sprint categorically denies the complaint’s allegations. We have collected and paid over to New York every penny of sales taxes on mobile wireless services that we believe our customers owe under New York state law. With this lawsuit, the Attorney General’s office is claiming New York consumers, who already pay some of the highest wireless taxes in the country, should pay even more. We intend to stand up for New York consumers’ rights and fight this suit.”

Latest Infographic shows 53% of Android developers owning a Samsung phone and 62% developing for Android exclusively

I’m not a big fan of infographics, but once in a while one of them interests me a little. The problem is you never know how many people were surveyed or if it was done scientifically at all. Anyways, this latest one comes from Startapp and it’s entitled “Following the White Rabbit.” They surveyed Android developers exclusively and some of the notables is that 53% of those surveyed own a Samsung phone while 22% own an HTC phone. Most interesting is only 5% own a Motorola phone.

Android developers also seem to concentrate more on Android as 62% say they only develop for Android while 37% also develop for Apple’s iOS

As far as number of apps, 53% of respondents published 6 – 9 apps, while 32% are still working on it. As far as other app stores, not surprisingly, the Amazon App Store is the favorite at 66%. Hit the break for the full infographic.

New Infographic Suggests the ‘Strengths of Google’s Project Glass’

Many of you are probably excited, at the same time curious, about the possibilities of Google’s upcoming Project Glass. While we have already seen the prototype worn in public by Google’s Sergey Brin and demoed in the Project Glass announcement video, we still can’t help but wonder what endless possibilities may lie in the device’s future.

Thinking along those same lines, the creative folks at Seetio have created a infographic outlining future possibilities for Google’s pet project known as Glass. To see what these guys think the eye-wear could eventually accomplish is quite interesting and can be seen after the break. I mean, they claim this could be the end of tablets and smartphones! Featured Play Store Newbie: Fetchnotes [Productivity]

Fetchnotes just hit the Google Play Store about a week ago. This app allows you to make quick notes for yourself that might include todos, shopping lists, ideas, or whatever you might use a sticky note for. If you’re a hardcore tasker, this one is probably not for you, but if you’re looking for something simple and easy you might one to take a look. Each note can include a hashtag for easy organizing. Fetchnotes will show you all your notes or you can just show notes with certain hashtags. What’s also nice is they have a website that syncs with the app. You can enter or look at your notes from your desktop or phone/tablet and it’s always synched.

Overall the interface and UI is simple, in fact it might be a little too simple, but if you’re looking for something quick and easy, give Fetchnotes a try. It’s free. Download links and more screenshots after the break.
