Samsung debuts new Exynos 5 Octa processor for mobile devices Jul 23rd 2013, 15:21, by Scott Webster Samsung introduced a new mobile processor on Tuesday which could soon find a home in future Android smartphones or tablets. The newest Exynos processor is powered by four ARM Cortex®-A15™ processors at 1.8GHz with four additional Cortex-A7™cores at 1.3 GHz in a big.LITTLE processing implementation. This improves the CPU processing capability by 20 percent over the predecessor by optimizing the power-saving design. The Exynos 5 Octa 5420 features a Mali T628 MP6 GPU and supports General-Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU); the previous generation of CPU employed a PowerVR GPU. Generally speaking, the new chipset offers performance improvements over the current processor yet balances things with power optimization. According to Samsung, the Exynos 5 Octa 5420 will begin sampling as soon as August, however we might look for this as soon as the next-gen Galaxy Note device.
