Recently BlackBerry announced they would shed thousands of employees due to continued dismal results, but many of these employees may find work pretty quickly thanks to Motorola. Motorola plans on setting up a new office right in BlackBerry’s backyard, in Waterloo, Ontario. The new office, called Motorola Kitchener-Waterloo is a ten minute drive from BlackBerry’s headquarters, and also happens to be walking distance from Google’s current office.
"We've got big plans and we're very optimistic." said Derek Phillips, a former Google employee who is now engineering director for Motorola Canada. "We're always looking for places where there's lots of opportunity for growth and it's not always easy to find places that have significant tech talent in a variety of areas, but especially mobile."
Of course there is no guarantee that former BlackBerry employees will get a job with Motorola, but I would say they have a darn good chance because of their expertise.
