Microsoft releases Remote Desktop app for Android/iOS alongside Windows 8.1 release Oct 17th 2013, 20:57, by Harrison Kaminsky Along with the official release of Windows 8.1 today comes Microsoft’s new Android/iOS Remote Desktop application. That’s right, there is now a “Microsoft-official” way to access your desktop remotely via your device. Some might say that it’s hard to control your PC on a tiny phone screen, but the tile-view in Windows 8 certainly works great on the phone, as well as many Windows 8 apps. (For obvious reasons, it works better on Android tablets and iPads, due to the bigger screens.) However, the app will not auto-detect PCs on your network, so you’ll have to manually enter the IP of your machine. Microsoft also added options to scroll around the machine at its native resolution, as well as an onscreen keyboard. Even the Windows key is on there! The application will certainly come in handy— I know I’ll be using it quite a lot when I’m on the go. The app is available for free in both the Play Store (download link below) and Apple’s App Store.
