Ever enjoyed creating greeting cards or music videos with your friends' faces using Jibjab? Then BuddyCon might just be the perfect app for you.
BuddyCon is a free app that lets Android users create custom avatars of their favorite or most contacted friends, dress them up, and make them interact on the home screen. When touched, the avatars on the home screen reveal shortcuts for calling, texting, and other connectivity functions they allowed access to BuddyCon to contact their friend. It also enables users to set up customized and fun call-screen backgrounds.
The catch? The recent update has limited the free version to only one avatar, which means that users have to purchase the non-limited version to unlock more avatars.

Getting Started

To create your friends' avatars, go to BuddyCon Settings and start importing or adding new faces. The app connects to your gallery where you can choose a friend's photo, and then mark the friend's face with the built-in paintbrush. However, the accuracy of marking a friend's face to be used in the avatar might pose a problem for those with smartphones with not-so-sensitive touch settings and for those with fat fingers.

The results are nevertheless hilarious and might even prompt you to get the non-limited version, but we have always encountered an error when trying to make a purchase.

Ratings

BuddyCon users give the app an average of 3.8 stars from 660 reviews on the Android Market, with mixed reviews ranging from "very good" and "creative" to "totally not working" and "update is bad."
See for yourself what BuddyCon can offer and download the app for free from the Android Market here. BuddyCon is compatible with devices running on Android 2.2 and up.

Recently, a zvelo senior engineer discovered a "significant security vulnerability" on Google Wallet. This discovery revealed the PIN numbers of its users. Considering that this app dealt with an individual's finances, zvelo felt it was their responsibility to alert users of the mobile payment app. By posting their findings on their blog, zvelo did exactly that. In addition to this, they also posted a demo video on what the issue would do.
Thankfully, Google has already been notified of this and they have responded that they are working on a fix for the bug.
"The zvelo study was conducted on their own phone on which they disabled the security mechanisms that protect Google Wallet by rooting the device. To date, there is no known vulnerability that enables someone to take a consumer phone and gain root access while preserving any Wallet information such as the PIN.
"We strongly encourage people to not install Google Wallet on rooted devices and to always set up a screen lock as an additional layer of security for their phone."

If you have a device that's not been rooted, are you also experiencing the problem on your Google Wallet app?

Google has a recent project called 'Solve For X'; it is actually a project which enables people to propose ideas believed to solve world problems through technology (yes, if you have any ideas for World Peace, now would be the perfect time to propose it!). Although the project is pretty recent, it has already started to get a lot of ideas—including a pretty cool proposal for a spray-on antenna, believed to revolutionize the way mobile communications work.
The idea for the spray-on antenna was conceptualized by Chamtech Enterprises, who claims that the product will increase mobile energy efficiency by 10%. Apart from being more lightweight, the spray-on antenna can be used on just about anything.

Chamtech's CTO, Rhett Spencer, mentioned that the company is currently in talks with government-based customers (yes, including the military). Because of this, information about the product is still very scarce at this time. However, many believe that it makes use of organic elements for improving radio and magnetic frequency signals. By being organic, it means that the product can be used in just about any circumstance—even in outer space and underwater.
As for the mobile carriers, this would be a pretty useful solution instead of using antennas. For their consumers who have a low-signal area, they can just call a technician to spray the area with the technology.

Pretty awesome huh? If this isn't the future, I don't know what else is!

Speaking of mysterious devices, an HTC smartphone was spotted today running on Android 4.0.1 and HTC Sense 4.0. We say that this is a mysterious device because as of this writing, the device is an unnamed unit. We're having trouble identifying what model it is because the front is the same as almost all the other HTC devices. However, when the unit is flipped over, the mysterious device has contoured plastic panels which trademark HTC's Incredible line.
We've looked around the internet and discovered that Phone Arena is speculating that this is the DROID Incredible 3 or even the HTC Fireball. Funny though, we don't really see it as the same unit. We think it is actually a base design of an upcoming device which will be HTC's successor to the Incredible S.
As for its specs, the phone will be featuring a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP camera with LED flash, front-facing VGA camera, AMOLED display, LTE, and Beats Audio.

We're pretty excited when HTC makes this phone official so like you guys, we're staying tuned!

After a meeting with Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, a Citigroup analyst fired a few comments with the company. The analyst, named Richard Gardner, asked whether Apple had any plan of losing the Intel silicon and Mac OS X on their MacBook Air line. In addition to this, the company was planning to replace them with ARM-based processor and the iOS. Apparently, Cook answered in a manner to which Gardner 'walked away from this meeting with the impression that Apple feels iPad satisfies- or will soon satisfy- the needs of those who might have been interested in such a product.'
It turns out, Apple is in plans of creating a physical keyboard dock which they refer as an indispensable accessory to their next iPad; which is of course, the iPad 3. They say that this dock will attach itself to the tablet easily and serve a number of functions. If this is the case, then surely, Apple is somehow copying the Asus Eee Pad Transformer's design!
A lot of people agree with us on this—just look at the comments from our source:

Earlier today, The Wall Street Journal reported that Google is planning on joining the hardware business. According to WSJ, Google has plans of developing a home entertainment system which would stream wireless music throughout the home; as well as on web-connected devices and speakers manufactured by Google. The home entertainment system is believed to be controlled through an Android smartphone or tablet—which makes it sound like a direct competition to the Sonos.
So is this the mystery device which Google recently requested a patent for at the FCC? With further developments on the topic, we think everything is getting clearer and clearer!

How about you, do you think this is the mystery device?

For a while now, Gameloft has always preferred distributing their games on its own app store. But if needed, the company will be willing to launch their games on the Android Market.
This is exactly what the company did for Android. The standalone Gameloft Live app is now available on the Android Market.

The Gameloft Live app lets its users stay connected with over 7 million players connected to the game. Users can also create and customize avatars, message, view leaderships, rewards, and achievements; plus they can also have a real-time chatting experience.

At the same time, Gameloft will be using this app to announce special offers and promotions.

Previously, we reported that the Motorola MOTOLUXE will not be having a premiere launch in the US. We now have a target date to look out for its UK release.
One of the reasons why many are looking forward to the release of this device is because it is being targeted to the use of fashionistas who are budget conscious. With features such as a 4.0-inch display, 800MHz single-core CPU, 8MP camera with 0.3MP front-facing camera, 1GB internal storage, and 512MB RAM, we're quite decided that this is the phone for those with a priceless taste.

On its press release, Motorola revealed that we should expect the ultra stylish phone to be available in the UK on the later part of this month. Unfortunately, they have not revealed pricing details of the MOTOLUXE.

Motorola Mobility's MOTOLUXE™ Smartphone to Launch in the UK
Ultra-stylish, ultra-vogue smartphone from Motorola Mobility coming soon to UK fashionistas. At a price that looks good, too.
Feb. 08, 2012
LONDON – Feb. 8, 2012 – Calling all British style gurus! Get ready to flaunt your fashion flair with the ultra-vogue, rail-thin MOTOLUXE™ from Motorola Mobility UK Limited, expected to be available late February.
When it comes to panache, this Android™ 2.3 powered smartphone sets the bar high. With a 4-inch touchscreen that's perfect for writing emails, surfing the Web and watching movies, you'll always be connected, clued-up and entertained – whether at work, hanging out with friends or out on the town.
For photo buffs, an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with flash lets you shoot like a pro. You can even instantly share the pics with friends and family using the phone's pre-loaded social networking apps.
But there is a reason this is called a smartphone! Incorporating Motorola's MotoSwitch user interface, the MOTOLUXE learns who you talk to and which apps you use the most, and puts all that information front and center.
The Social Graph feature gives you easy and fast access to the people who really matter. It learns who's most important to you and uses that information to populate the home screen. The more frequently you communicate with someone, the bigger their icon becomes. The Activity Graph focuses on your app habits; automatically changing to reflect the apps you use the most to provide customised menus.
With Music Now you can now play your favorite music while the Smart Gallery feature displays your favorite pictures as collections.
When you're on the go, MOTOLUXE's GPS technology will point you in the right direction and make sure you get to where the action is. If that isn't enough, the phone is Bluetooth®1-enabled, as well as your portal into the Android Market™ where you'll find thousands of games, apps, music, books and movies.
MOTOLUXE also sets itself apart with a lanyard slot that lights up. So you can see when you've missed a call, received a text or have an email waiting for you.
“By combining sleek style with Android brains, MOTOLUXE is ideal for people who want the latest technology in a sophisticated package,” said Marcus Frost, senior marketing director, Europe, Motorola Mobility. “Not only does this smartphone have a big screen and the latest, greatest entertainment tools, it's affordable and won't take a bite out of your budget.”
Price and Availabily
Motorola MOTOLUXE is expected to be available from authorized Motorola resellers from late-February.

It may be because of its recent malware scare but Symantec is making up for its wrong diagnosis of the Android.Counterclank issue. By releasing the app called Norton Safety Minder, Symantec hopes to do just that.
The Norton Safety Minder is a free Android parental control app that allows parents to track and block websites which their children access on their Android device. After downloading the app, parents can easily sign up for a Norton Online Family account to help enforce this. The app works by attaching itself on the default browser of the mobile device. It then blocks websites based on the age category or even a customized list. Moreover, children are unable to use another browser.
Norton Safety Minder also lets parents see the entire search history as well as the websites that their children have attempted to visit. While it is being compared to the McAfee Family Protection app, this is a feature solely offered by Norton.

Other features are available for Norton Online Family Premier holders with subscriptions of either $29.99 or $49.99. These features include seeing whom their kids text or MMS (yes, including the content of the message); and also the ability to have a blacklist and white list of people that their kids can contact.
As of this writing, Norton Safety Minder is only compatible with devices running on Android 2.2 and 2.3.
As parents, it is a good idea to have control over your child's online visits. But seeing his texts? I think that's a bit too far for privacy, don't you?
