The One2Touch Softpad S1 NFC keyboard review
Oct 20th 2013, 17:56, by Jerry Hildenbrand

One2Touch NFC Keyboard.

Using low-power NFC communication and made for Android, the One2Touch Softpad is a unique take on a travel keyboard

If you have ever tried to do any real work on a touch screen device, you know how frustrating text entry can be. Having a mini-computer in your pocket is mighty convenient, and applications to edit things like presentations and documents are good enough for limited use on Android, but the limiting factor, for me at least, is trying to type on a piece of glass.

I wouldn't recommend any Android device for a dedicated office computer, but for traveling and those unexpected times where you need to get something done, the One2Touch Softpad NFC keyboard is a really interesting gadget.

This week in the world of Android: Omni ROM launched as an alternative to CyanogenMod, the LG G Flex broke cover, the HTC One Max finally launched, rumors emerged about Amazon partnering with HTC for a smartphone, and the Nexus 5 leaked in all its glory.

These are the essential stories, the summary of an entire week in just a few phrases. It's must read Android.

New Omni ROM

After CyanogenMod went commercial, several prominent developers banded together to create a new custom ROM called Omni, that is all about "innovation, new features, transparency, community, and freedom".

G Flex, the truly curved smartphone

The Galaxy Round lacks the wow factor, but LG has its own curved screen smartphone in the pipeline. Press shots of the G Flex leaked this week, revealing a radical design.

Finally, the Nexus 5

After many questionable rumors and blurry pics, Google itself gave us a rock solid leak: a press shot, the confirmation of the Nexus 5 name, and the price tag of the 16GB version. The only question remaining: when will the new Nexus launch?

HTC One Max is here

The rumors were spot on: HTC launched this week the One Max, a massive variant of the flagship One, featuring a fingerprint scanner and an expansive 5.9-inch display.

Amazon & HTC. Wait, what?

Two solid reports surfaced this week about a smartphone partnership between Amazon and HTC. Is HTC playing with fire here?

Nexus 5 press image

Even though many Nexus 5 details are known, including starting price and press image thanks to a recent Google leak, the leaks continue with what looks like a white Nexus 5 render.

A few days ago we looked at images showing the alleged box of the white Nexus 5, and now we have for you what looks like the press render of the white phone version.

White Nexus 5 render

The often reliable C Technology has posted the image above, and while the device in the picture looks very much like the black Nexus 5 image found on Google's servers (top image), we'll quickly notice some discrepancies between these recent white Nexus 5 leaks.

The render above suggests that the whole handset is white, while the box we saw a few days ago seemed to indicate that only the back of the Nexus 5 will be white, with the front and sides still painted black (image below). It's clear that both pictures can't be right at the same time.

Whether the images are showing the actual product or not, C Technology has also said that the white Nexus 5 will soon be available for purchase, as it will be launched alongside the black model. We'll just have to sit and patiently wait to see if this rumor comes out to be true or not.

Finally, a new Twitter account supposedly dedicated to leaks has posted a Nexus 5 press render that shows the same Nexus 5 handset spotted on Google's server, but slightly tilted. Of course, we'll note that this image was posted on Twitter a day after Google's accidental Google Play Store Nexus 5 listing.

Could this be the white Nexus 5?
Oct 20th 2013, 16:07, by Raveesh Bhalla

This image has no alt text

The retail packaging leak from earlier in the week already left us with two questions regarding a possible white Nexus 5: (a) does it even exist, and (b) does it look any good?

Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the white Nexus 4 since it’s front side remained black, and the glass-back of the phone anyway meant users would almost certainly have the phone in a case. However, if the white Nexus 5 looks anything like what a tipster sent to the Chinese website CtechCN, I have pretty much decided which version I want.

white nexus 5The tipster also told the site that the white variant would release alongside the black one, unlike the Nexus 4. While the authenticity cannot be judged at this point, I think that releasing a white version from Day 1 makes a lot of sense. The reason? Because of how much “white” we have seen in general in the KitKat leaks. The white version of the phone, particularly in the form above, would probably go better with the new look of Android we have seen so far.

Tutorial - Facebook Privacy Settings
Oct 20th 2013, 12:00, by Kris Carlon

Facebook has, by far, become the way we present our image to the world, at least to the online world. However, if our privacy settings are not configured well, this network can offer public access to intimate details we'd rather not share. Recent news that 13-17 year olds will now be able to post publicly on the social network put Facebook privacy back in our minds. Surely all Android users of the Facebook application have been reminded more than once how to set your profile up to protect your privacy, but in case you've neglected those reminders or aren't aware of new settings in the app, our Android for Beginners tutorial offers a complete walkthrough to help you enhance your privacy on Facebook.
