Dell took the cover off of several new tablets today, but it’s the Dell Venue 7 and 8 that stand out the most. Why? Because they are the first Android-powered Dell tablets since the Streak 7!

Similar to how HP first entered into the Android game with a budget device, Dell hopes that with this return to Android, they will be able to win the hearts of the budget conscientious crowd with its $149 7-inch tablet and $189 8-inch tablet.

The twist to this story is that Dell's tablets aren’t rocking low-end ARM processors, but instead feature last-gen 2GHz Intel Atom Clover Trail Plus CPUs. Both models are very similar with 2GB of RAM, an estimated 10 hour battery life, 16GB storage, microSD and an IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Both tablets will also eventually offer LTE variants and come in either black or red.

As for the OS, the tablets will come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2, but the company claims they plan to bring out Android 4.4 KitKat as soon they can. We wouldn’t recommend holding your breath, though.

So how do the two models differ? The most obvious difference is the display size, but the Venue 8 (pictured above) also has an 5MP back cam and 2MP front cam, versus the Venue 7's 3MP back cam and VGA front cam. The only other difference is that the Venue 8 will also offer a 32GB version – though pricing has yet to be revealed for the 32GB model.

The Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 are expected to ship on October 18th, at least in 16GB WiFi-only form. So what do you think, impressed by Dell's new Android tablets or not?

HTC One

HTC might not have lived up to its original pledge to bring Android 4.3 to North America by the end of September, but that's not for want of trying. In the last week we’ve seen the 4.3 update push out to unlocked HTC owners, HTC Developer Edition users in the U.S., and even HTC One owners in Canada. Clearly their promised 4.3 update is important to HTC, but dealing with U.S. carrier certification is a process that the manufacturer has little direct control over.

The good news is that the wait for Android 4.3 is finally over, at least for Sprint customers! HTC's USA President Jason Mackenzie confirmed today that Android 4.3 is rolling out now to Sprint users, and Sprint has also released some basic details for the 3.04.651.2 update.

According to the Now Network, the new update not only brings Android 4.3, but it also fixes an issue with Swype, updates several Sprint applications and promises HTC Sense stability improvements. Additionally, we can expect Android 4.3 features including Bluetooth LE support, OpenGL ES 3.0 and the enhanced Daydream feature.

Based on what we’ve seen with other HTC One 4.3 updates, you will also likely find some HTC specific features that relate to the camera, content in BlinkFeed and a few other minor tweaks.

For more details about the update, you'll want to hit up Sprint's community page. You can also try manually grabbing the update, but don't be surprised if it takes a while (or even a few days) before it rolls out to everyone.

Unfortunately, no word on when the other carriers will see the Android 4.3, though hopefully the wait is short. So how about it- anyone lucky enough to grab this update yet? If so, what do you think so far?

HTC EVO 4G LTE also getting minor update today
Oct 2nd 2013, 17:26, by Jerry Hildenbrand

EVO 4G LTE

Minor update brings stability improvements and HD voice by default

While it's not the big Android 4.3 update many are wanting, the HTC EVO 4G LTE also has an update pushing out today. The 3.17.651.4 update is a maintenance release, and the listed change log says HD voice will be enabled by default to go along with the requisite bug fixes and stability improvements to Sense.

This is yet another staged release, and not all users will see the update today. To see if you've got a seat on the OTA carousel, pop into the settings and check for a software update.

HTC: Sprint to release HTC On Android 4.3 update today
Oct 2nd 2013, 17:23, by Nick Gray

It may be a few days later than originally promised, but HTC’s Jason Mackenzie has just announced that the Android 4.3 update for the Sprint HTC One will be pushed out today. The update should include Android 4.3 plus launcher bar enhancements, new BlinkFeed features, a widget lock screen style, home button behavior modification (remove black menu bar from screen), ability to display battery level percentage in the notification bar, advanced notifications, quick settings, 6 new Video Highlights themes with custom music options, improved Zoe file management and all the standard Android enhancements included with Android 4.3.

We’re not sure when the Sprint HTC One Android 4.3 update push will begin, but you can always try to ping HTC's servers manually by going to Settings > About > Software Updates > Check now on your HTC One.

Good news! 4.3 will begin to push to HTC One users on Sprint today.

Vertu Constellation is a more "affordable" Vertu Android device
Oct 2nd 2013, 17:08, by Dima Aryeh

Vertu has already entered the Android market with their previous smartphone, the Vertu Ti. However, the device was incredibly expensive; not many could afford it. Vertu may be an exclusive club of sorts, but it seems that the company wants to branch out just a bit. The release of the Vertu Constellation brings a cheaper, more sleek Android device to the exclusive club of rich people with fancy phones.

The Constellation actually has some pretty nice specs going for it. It has a 4.3-inch 720p display, a 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor (with what seems to be an Adreno 320 GPU), a 13MP camera with dual flash, 32GB of storage, an 1,800 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and full support for both AT&T and T-Mobile bands. Sadly, there is no LTE. It runs a lightly modified version of Android 4.2, so it’s decently modern.

However, people don’t buy Vertu devices for the specs. The body is made of grade 5 polished titanium wrapped in calf leather in the color of your choosing. The entire front is covered in a sheet of sapphire glass, which makes the price a little more justifiable. If you can justify having a sapphire-plated phone in the first place, that is.

Vertu CEO Massimiliano Pogliani explains that the device differs from other Vertu models in its philosophy, which is “less is more.” Instead of being as fancy and wild as possible, the Constellation was made to be a little more subdued while still keeping its luxury. This is obvious by the clean front, with no giant earpiece protruding. This is also reflected in the price, at a low low $6,630.

Not only do you get luxury hardware, but the software is fancy too. That red button on the side? Pressing it opens a suite of Vertu features. It has features like Silent Circle’s encrypted VoIP service, Kaspersky anti-virus, global unlimited WiFi access and more. It even has ringtones performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Now that’s fancy.

If you actually want to pick one up, you’ll have the chance sometime this month. You can make an appointment with a Vertu boutique to buy your model. But we’re sure not many people will be buying this device. What do you guys think of this device? Leave a comment!

HTC One Max will still have Beats Audio, despite selling off remaining stake
Oct 2nd 2013, 03:11, by Aditya Thawardas

HTC_DROID_DNA_TA_Back_Close_Up_Of_Beats_Logo_01While Beats just bought itself out of their deal with HTC, it looks like Beats Audio will continue to be a part of HTC devices. Beats COO, Luke Wood, confirmed that the HTC One Max will have Beats Audio once it comes out later this fall. With the phone almost due to unveil, it would be difficult to remove all of Beats audio software and drivers, but it’s still an interesting tidbit. Also, Wood said that the company continues to have 25% of investments in HTC.
