Rumor: Moto X could launch next week, as carriers said to receive handset on July 29
Jul 28th 2013, 16:18, by Chris Smith

Rogers Moto X video leak

A person that has proven so far to be more than familiar with Google's Moto X plans says that the handset could be shipped to carriers starting with July 29, suggesting that a launch following the August 1 announcement event wouldn't be out of the question.

The news comes from Taylor Wimberly – who else? – but don't get too excited just yet as he apparently heard everything from an unverified source. Here's what he posted on his Google+ page:

Just got some crazy info. Unverified source tells me Moto X ships to US carriers on 7/29 (tomorrow)! If this is true then it might go on sale this week after the big reveal. Trying to verify info with some other sources.

While various Moto X details have been leaked in the past few days (and weeks), there hasn't been that much talk about launch dates. We only have alleged launch dates for Verizon (August 23) and U.S. Cellular (August 26), but other U.S. carriers including AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are also expected to launch the device, considering the fact that existing FCC documentation has been filed for five different Moto X versions.

We'll just have to wait and see whether the Moto X will be launched next week, which would certainly be interesting. What's clear though is that the handset is coming this summer, something Motorola has officially confirmed when making the Moto X name official at the D11 media event.

Android World Update # The new Nexus 7: Wireless charging feature

The new Nexus 7: Wireless charging feature
Jul 28th 2013, 16:23, by Jerry Hildenbrand

Nexus 7 on the Nexus Orb

The new 2013 Nexus 7 uses the same wireless charging standard as the Nexus 4 -- and the same chargers.

Google PlayIf you were one of the lucky ones who was already able to score a new 2013 Nexus 7, you might not know about a great feature -- Qi wireless charging. It doesn't charge your new tablet fast, and it still requires a cord be plugged into the wall, but it is a great feature for the nightstand or your desk. While the tablet is sitting there not being used to play games, surf the web, or browse your favorite social media network -- all things it does very, very well -- it can be collecting a few charged electrons to keep the battery bumped up. And it makes a great nightstand clock with the Dashclock extension and Daydream feature activated.

We've got a handful of Qi chargers laying around, so I've been fiddling with them all morning. I want to see which ones work the best out of the bunch, and fans of the Nexus brand will be pleased with the result -- the Nexus Charging orb is a perfect match for your new Nexus 7.

They all work. Nokia's charger seems to work fine on my tablet, but offers no compelling reason to choose it over any others. The big Energizer Qi charging mat works fine, too, but it's ugly as sin and life is too short for ugly accessories. The LG puck works really well, and the fact that the charging coil is mounted directly in the center of the back cover of the Nexus 7 makes it easy to place and it stays put. But that blinking light will drive you bonkers at night.

Enter the Nexus charging orb. You new tablet grips the funky rubber surface of the orb just fine and won't slip, and the angle it keeps your Nexus 7 resting at makes that big, beautiful screen easily viewable while it's charging. Combined with some of the great Daydreams available in Google Play, it's the perfect solution. And it's powered by holo. Ok, not really, but it does say NEXUS on the face of it.

If you've got a Qi charger laying around, by al means use that one with your Nexus 7. If you have to buy one, because come on, you have to, grab the Nexus Orb from Google Play. You can use the link above. There are a couple pics after the break, and plenty of room for all your comments.

Sony Honami FCC filing tips September announcement
Jul 28th 2013, 15:36, by Robert Nelson

The Sony Honami leaks seems to be rolling in nice and steady at this point in time. We have seen a few recent leaks that included images, details of the camera and even some covering other specs of the handset. And well, it is looking like the handset has just recently been discovered in an FCC filing. The filing has the handset dubbed as the PY7PM-0450, which the PM-0450 portion has previously been associated with the Honami.

sony-honami-fcc

While not officially confirmed by Sony, the Honami is expected to arrive as the Xperia i1 and serving as the follow-up to the Xperia Z. Sony did however mention the Xperia Z follow-up was expected to be announced later this year. Taking that with some details coming from this FCC filing and things appear to be lining up rather nicely. Basically, this filing contained a confidentiality request letter and that was showing a date of September 30th.

The letter makes mention about how “a period up to 2013-09-30 is requested to protect this information before formal market launch.” Simply put, it looks like Sony will be making this all official sometime before the end of September. Of course, previous speculation had suggested Sony may unveil the Honami during IFA 2013 and for that, the timing doesn’t seem to match all that well. IFA 2013 is scheduled to take place on September 6th.

Otherwise, while much of the focus with the Honami has been on the camera, the handset is rumored to be sporting a solid set of specs. Just to begin with, that rear-facing camera is expected to be 20 megapixel. The Honami is also said to have a 5.0-inch Full HD display and quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Additional storage will be available by way of a microSD memory card slot. The handset has also been listed as including a 3000 mAh battery, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0 along with options to pick the handset in several colors. So far the color lineup looks to be black, white and purple. Finally, we are also seeing some measurements which are listed at 144 x 73.9 x 8.3mm (and just for comparison, the Xperia Z measures in at 139 x 71 x 7.9mm).

Android World Update # 12.2-inch SM-P900 and 10.1-inch SM-P600 Samsung Android tablets to pack 2560 x 1600 displays, report says

12.2-inch SM-P900 and 10.1-inch SM-P600 Samsung Android tablets to pack 2560 x 1600 displays, report says
Jul 28th 2013, 13:30, by Chris Smith

Samsung

Samsung is apparently working on a couple of tablets, both said to offer 2560 x 1600 resolution displays.

Renown leakster @evleaks apparently can offer some details about these upcoming products: the 12.2-inch SM-P900 tablet, and the 10.1-inch SM-P600 model:

Samsung SM-P900: 12.2-inch, Exynos 5 octa, 2560×1600, S-pen; P600: 10-inch, Snapdragon 800, also 2560×1600

— @evleaks (@evleaks) July 27, 2013

Naturally, nothing is official just yet, but considering his mostly-accurate track record in the mobile leaks department, we'd tend to trust him with such information.

While official product names are not provided, the SM-P900 is said to pack an Exynos 5 Octa processor (maybe the new version?) and S Pen functionality, a feature that suggest we're may be looking at a new member of the Note family.

The only other characteristic mentioned for the SM-P600 in addition to screen size and resolution is processor, with @evleaks saying the device will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU.

Will this be the new Nexus 10? It's too early to speculate on that, but we will remind you that Google has apparently confirmed that a Samsung-made Nexus 10 is in the works.

Interestingly, Zauba – a website where we've seen alleged shipment data for R&D Galaxy Note 3 versions and Samsung's first smartwatch – also mentions a SM-P905 version of the 12.2-inch tablet (the same one we’ve seen in previous reports), but the SM-P600 can't be found on the same site.

Moreover, PhoneDog points out that both devices have also been spotted in User Agent Profiles on Samsung's website, which reveal that both tablets will have a 2560 x 1600 resolution and run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

This isn't the first time we hear that Samsung plans to launch more tablets packing a high-resolution display, including a device with a screen bigger than 10 inches.

The first-gen Nexus 10 tablet also comes with a 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 resolution.
