Info roundup: Samsung Galaxy S3 in Europe – prices, availability, and carriers

Posted: 04 May 2012 02:36 AM PDT

Galaxy S3

European readers, how eager you are to get your hands on the Galaxy S3? That's a rhetorical question, of course, we know that most of you are uber-excited over Samsung's beautiful new flagship phone. To make the wait easier, check out our hands-on coverage, our Galaxy S3 spec list, and our event pictures.

Now, let's get down to business. Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S3 will be available in Europe by the end of May. But we've gone the extra mile to bring you a roundup of the information we have on the pricing, availability, release dates, carriers, and versions of the Galaxy S3 in Europe, including major markets such as the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and others.

That's a lot of information in here, and we'll keep this post update with even more news. Also, we have a similar Galaxy S3 round up for the United States, so check it out if you are interested.

Samsung Galaxy S3 European carriers and availability

There are a multitude of carriers around Europe, but a handful of really big ones, most of which will mostly carry the Galaxy S3. We are talking about Vodafone (present in the UK, Germany, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, and others), Orange (present in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Poland, and others), O2 (in UK, Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic), T-Mobile and others.

Vodafone is set to be the first carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy S3 (16GB and the exclusive 32GB version, white and blue), starting on May 29. The 32GB version will be exclusive to Vodafone for a month. In Europe, unlike the US, carriers seldom have exclusivity for the major devices, so expect to see the S3 on all major networks.

PopBot app for Android: Identifying and recording songs from Internet radio stations

Posted: 04 May 2012 01:00 AM PDT

Radio stations may offer the freshest songs but having to put up with the DJ’s chatter can be frustrating. If a song comes on and you find yourself bobbing your head and tapping your foot to the beat, you might know the title but purchasing it is another story. What if you fall in love with not just one song but ten? You’ll have to comb the Internet to find them, and your wallet might take a direct hit when you have to pay up to enjoy your new favorite tracks. In ye olde days, before MP3s, teenagers used to record songs they heard on the radio to cassette tapes. Here’s an app that functions just like that, just without the cassette tape and without so much work.

Let me introduce PopBot. PopBot is primarily an Internet radio app but what makes PopBot truly shine is how it saves the songs you hear on the channel you’re locked on to. This app connects to any radio station and records all songs. Don’t worry, because unlike the yesteryears where teenagers had to skillfully cut off their recording before the DJ started talking again or risk getting a few seconds of annoying babble, PopBot doesn’t include any of that talk or any of the advertising that comes with it.

As an Internet radio player, PopBot allows you to select from thousands of radio stations from all over the world. When you’re locked on to a radio channel that you like, PopBot will work tirelessly in the background. The awesome tracks you hear on your radio station of choice? They’ll be on your phone within a day. What if the station you’re locked on to repeats the same song several times in the day? No problem, PopBot will figure out which version is the best and keep the best copy for you.

An app as powerful as PopBot has to eat up your battery life really quickly, right? PopBot is set up to minimize the consumption of battery and 3G data. The normal setting is for PopBot to run only in the background when you’re both connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into a battery charger. Have PopBot save songs while you’re asleep and wake up to enjoy a bunch of new songs. PopBot will first analyze the radio station before it starts recording songs. It isn’t unusual for PopBot to take one or two days before it starts recording. The longer you’re locked onto that channel, less-popular songs will be saved. That means you can enjoy less-than-mainstream tunes in addition to what everyone else is listening to.

You can opt to have PopBot save songs while it plays the radio station or you can opt to mute PopBot but it will still work to save songs from the radio station. PopBot also continues to save songs while you listen to its previously recorded tracks. How great is that? You can toggle between radio Internet player and music player. To make things interesting, PopBot allows you to save your favorite radio stations. Switch between them every few days so you get a variety of new music to suit your every mood.

Since PopBot is still under development, there may be a few bugs. Some songs, for example, may not be flawlessly saved.

Start enjoying fresh music today. PopBot is available for free on the Google Play Store.

All we know about the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the United States: Prices, availability, versions, and release date

Posted: 04 May 2012 12:39 AM PDT

Last night in London, Samsung unveiled its next Galaxy flagship phone, the long awaited and much rumored Galaxy S3. We've seen the specs of the new Galaxy S3, we've seen its design, and how it stands up against its top competitors. We're sure that, by now, most of you want to know when you will be able to buy this amazing device and at what price.

So, American readers, we've scoured the web, scrutinized every piece of Samsung official material, and listened to every last shady rumormonger to bring you all we know about the Samsung Galaxy S3 availability, release date, and price in the US. Here we go.

Samsung Galaxy S3 in the United States

Last year, US customers were among the last in the world to get the Samsung Galaxy S2. Carrier interference and bad management were cited as reasons for the staggered rollout. But will history repeat itself with the S3? We don't think so, fortunately!

Samsung Galaxy S3 US carriers

Last year, the Galaxy S2 came to almost every major American carrier (in one form or another), except for Verizon, who got the Galaxy Nexus exclusivity instead. This is why we believe that the Galaxy S3 will be available across the board, and it will probably even grace Verizon this time.

Samsung US put up a registration page, so you can get fresh info on the availability of the S3 in the US. In the registration form, you can see that all big four carriers and a few smaller ones are listed:

  • AT&T
  • C Spire Wireless
  • Metro PCS
  • Sprint
  • T-Mobile
  • US Cellular
  • Verizon

As The Verge notes, this could be a random list, but also, it's odd that Cricket and a few other second-tiers are missing, which may indicate that the list is based on actual release plans.

Also from The Verge's sources, we learned that at least Sprint is in the race to get the Galaxy S3. Sprint did collaborate with Samsung well for the previous two iteration of the S series, so this seems most plausible. We don't have yet concrete information or even rumors about AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile, but, again, it's highly probable that all three will carry the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The skinny: The Galaxy S3 will probably come to all major US carriers, and several of the smaller ones.

Samsung Galaxy S3 US hardware versions

As you probably know, the Galaxy S3 will be available in both 3G and 4G LTE versions. On the registration page we've talked about above, Samsung says that "Appearance of device may vary. Some features may not be available in all areas." In addition, we've heard from the product press release that the specifications "may vary" for the LTE version of the device.

Also, older rumors indicate that the US versions of Samsung's flagship will come with a Snapdragon S4 SoC instead of the Exynos 4 Quad chip found on the global version, supposedly to accommodate the LTE radio. This is what happened with HTC's flagship, the One X, which dropped the quad-core Tegra 3, in favor of the same S4 chip from Qualcomm. As Android and Me speculates, one other possibility would be that Samsung will use its new dual-core Exynos 5 chip in the US, but that seems a bit of a stretch.

Most likely, the Samsung Galaxy S3 will come with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip in the US, for all three LTE carriers: AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. T-Mobile, on the other hand, runs a 4G HSPA+ network, meaning that the carrier will be able to range the global version, or at least, a version that contains the quad-core Exynos chip found in the global version.

As for names, skins, and other specifications for the US versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3, we really can't predict anything at this point. Last year's Galaxy S2 arrived stateside in a variety of forms, not to mention names. We just hope that, this time, Samsung will be able to impose its will against the mighty US carriers and we'll have fewer variants and fewer mouthfuls of names.

The skinny: The Galaxy S3 will probably come in dual-core LTE versions on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, and in the quad-core version on T-Mobile.

Samsung Galaxy S3 US release date

At the Unpacked event last night, Samsung didn't offer a concrete release date for the Galaxy S3 in the US. We saw a big slide that said "USA in June", but we can't tell if that referred to the launch of the device or the actual availability in stores. What we do know is Samsung will do local launch events around the world, and one of the cities included in the tour is New York. We can expect more precise information when this event takes place.

Now, we do have some rumors and tidbits that can help us guess when the Galaxy S3 will reach American shores. First, the Olympic Games are upon us, and we are sure that Samsung (a major Olympic sponsor) will do its best to make its shiny new superphone available on shelves by the opening ceremony, which is on July 27.

Of course, if Samsung has its way, the device will be available much sooner than that, hopefully, in June. In a press statement, Samsung US said that the device will come to the States "this summer", which pretty much excludes the possibility of a May release. The good news is we can also pretty much exclude the possibility of the S3 coming to the US five or six months after its announcement, like it happened last year with the S2.

The skinny: The Galaxy S3 will probably be released in the US in the June-July interval.

Samsung Galaxy S3 US price

Not much to say here, unfortunately. However, the Galaxy S3 will be Samsung's flagship for at least this year, so don't expect it to come cheap.

Most likely, you'll be initially able to get the Galaxy S3 for $299 on a two-year contract from most carriers, although, we can't rule out a smaller, $199 price tag. As always, expect Amazon Wireless and others to offer discounted prices a bit later in the game.

As for the contract-free, unlocked version of the Galaxy S3, we expect that it will cost you about $700. We made this assumption based on the pricing of Samsung's previous flagships such as the S2 or the Note, as well as the price tags of competing devices, such as the HTC One X or the Droid Razr MAXX.

The roundup

To recap: We expect that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will become available in the US over the next two months, from all major carriers, in an LTE dual-core version and the quad-core version on T-Mobile. Expect to pay $199-$299 for a two-year contract and about $700 for an unlocked model.

We’ll update this post with new information as we get it.

Samsung Galaxy S3 – hands on experience!

Posted: 03 May 2012 06:33 PM PDT

Firstly, thanks to the tens of thousands of people who tuned in to the the site and the live blog! It was great to be able to bring you what we were hearing and seeing as it happened. Unfortunately though, we only had enough bandwidth for web browsing, and didn’t have anywhere near the upload capacity needed for images. We do now though, so let me show you them and give you my thoughts!

It’s a big boy

Good line-up right?

As you can hopefully see from the image above, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is large, very large. I think it is a little fraction longer than the One X. As I predicted, it is a blend of design from the SGS2 and the One X. The iPhone 4S in the picture below gives you a good screen-size comparison. We’re talking about some serious, serious screen real estate here people. The screen to bezel ration is out of this world.

The SGS2 and the SGS3 together. Both beautiful.

The SGS3 and the One X! The SGS3 is indeed slightly larger - but better?

I think the SGS3... wins?

How does it feel in your hand?

In a word, amazing. Despite its large display, it still manages to feel incredible in the hand. It’s amazingly light for its size, and weighed substantially less than an iPhone. Honestly, putting the two next to each other felt just wrong, actually.

Light, and comfortable to hold

Many words spring to mind: sleek, elegant, gorgeous. One that stands out in my mind more than any other though is ‘light’. This phone feels feather-like and makes the iPhone 4S feel like a brick.

In hand it feels about the same weight as the Samsung Galaxy S2, coming in at 133grams.

What’s the user interface like?

Elegance!

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is running our beloved Ice Cream Sandwich to the point that there is no loading lag. Everything is instantaneous. I can visualise the 1.4Ghz quad core sitting somewhere in this phone, crunching away at whatever I through at it.

Altogether the user interface resembles that of the Samsung Galaxy S2, but done up to the max. Everything is at a rich resolution with deep vibrant colour.

Which features impressed me the most

The larger 2,100 mAh battery is great. I was hoping for more, but that is still a decent size. I also like the ability the phone has of detecting your friend’s faces in photographs, and then giving you option to distribute the photograph to them by whatever means you choose.

NFC was hoped for, and I’m glad they’ve included it. At the show one of the speakers mentioned they are working closely with Visa to make contactless payment ever more popular.

Oh, and I like the idea that the phone knows when I am looking at it. Probably going to end up being a battery hog or something like that, but it was definitely a neat thing to see in action (small eye icon appears at the top right of the notification bar when it detects you looking back).

What disappointed me

Although I am personally not that fussed, the lack of a higher megapixel rear camera was a surprise. A lot of rumors said 12MP and it turns out they were false. However, it does have the fast-capture feature to make up for this – 3.3 pictures per second!

The biggest thing that disappointed me is that they didn’t give a price! I also asked Samsung’s Head of Marketing what the RAM capacity was and his was “I don’t know, but I can tell you the flash memory, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB”. Since he is the guy in charge of selling these phones you would think he would know, but we had to get it from another source in the end.

Final Thoughts

Again, thank you to those of you who viewed the live blog, and also thank you for bringing Android Authority its most number of of readers yet. Everything we do here is for you, our readers.

Samsung Introduces the GALAXY S III, the Smartphone
Designed for Humans and Inspired by Nature

May 3, 2012

Effortlessly smart and intuitively simple,
Samsung GALAXY S III reveals a new concept of smartphone

London, UK—May 3, 2012—Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today the third generation GALAXY S, the GALAXY S III. Designed for humans and inspired by nature, the GALAXY S III is a smartphone that recognizes your voice, understands your intention, and lets you share a moment instantly and easily.

This sleek and innovative smartphone has the enhanced intelligence to make everyday life easier. With Samsung GALAXY S III, you can view the content like never before on the device's 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display. An 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera offer users a variety of intelligent camera features and face recognition related options that ensure all moments are captured easily and instantly. Samsung GALAXY S III is powered by Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, with greatly enhanced usability and practicality to make life easier. Packed with intuitive technology, the GALAXY S III delivers a uniquely personalized mobile experience that refuses to be compromised.

"With the GALAXY S III, Samsung has maximized the consumer benefits by integrating superior hardware with enhanced smartphone usability," said JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung. "Designed to be both effortlessly smart and intuitively simple, the GALAXY S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind. What makes me most proud is that it enables one of the most seamless, natural and human-centric mobile experiences, opening up a new horizon that allows you to live a life extraordinary."
Introducing Natural Interaction

The GALAXY S III enhances the interaction experience between the device and user. Smart enough to detect your face, voice and motions, the GALAXY S III adapts to the individual user to provide a more convenient and natural experience. With the innovative 'Smart stay' feature, the GALAXY S III recognizes how you are using your phone – reading an e-book or browsing the web for instance – by having the front camera identify your eyes; the phone maintains a bright display for continued viewing pleasure.

The GALAXY S III features 'S Voice,' the advanced natural language user interface, to listen and respond to your words. In addition to allowing information search and basic device-user communication, S Voice presents powerful functions in regards to device control and commands. When your phone alarm goes off but you need a little extra rest, just tell the GALAXY S III "snooze." You can also use S Voice to play your favorite songs, turn the volume up or down, send text messages and emails, organize your schedules, or automatically launch the camera and capture a photo.

In addition to recognizing your face and voice, the GALAXY S III understands your motions to offer maximized usability. If you are messaging someone but decide to call them instead, simply lift your phone to your ear and 'Direct call' will dial their number. With 'Smart alert,' the GALAXY S III will also save you from trouble by catching any missed messages or calls; your phone will vibrate to notify missed statuses when picked up after being idle.
Easy and Instant Sharing

The Samsung GALAXY S III is more than a personal device that can be enjoyed by one user – it wants you to share and experience smartphone benefits with family and friends, regardless of where you are. With the new 'S Beam,' the GALAXY S III expands upon Android™ Beam™, allowing a 1GB movie file to be shared within three minutes and a 10MB music file within two seconds by simply touching another GALAXY S III phone, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. The 'Buddy photo share' function also allows photos to be easily and simultaneously shared with all your friends pictured in an image directly from the camera or the photo gallery.

With 'AllShare Cast', users can wirelessly connect their GALAXY S III to their television to immediately transfer smartphone content onto a larger display. 'AllShare Play' can be also used to instantly share any forms of files between GALAXY S III and your tablet, PC, and televisions regardless of the distance between the devices. Under AllShare Play is also the 'Group Cast' feature that allows you to share your screen among multiple friends on the same Wi-Fi network; you can make comments and draw changes at the same time with your co-workers, witnessing real-time sharing on your individual device.
Human-centric Design with Uncompromised Performance

The GALAXY S III not only presents features with enhanced usability, but also provides an ergonomic and comfortable experience through its human-centric design. Its comfortable grip, gentle curves, and organic form deliver a rich human-centric feel and design. Inspired by nature, its design concept is the flow and movement of nature. The elements of wind, water and light are all evoked in the physical construct of the GALAXY S III. In its essence, the minimal organic design identity is reflected in the smooth and non-linear lines of the device. Available in Pebble Blue and Marble White at launch, Samsung will introduce a variety of additional color options.

With a 4.8" HD Super AMOLED display, the GALAXY S III offers a large and vivid viewing experience. Samsung Mobile's heritage Super AMOLED display even enhances to HD and 16:9 wider viewing angles. To ensure faster content sharing and connectivity, the GALAXY S III offers Wi-Fi Channel Bonding which doubles the Wi-Fi bandwidth.

The GALAXY S III also sports a range of additional features that boost performance and the overall user experience in entirely new ways. It introduces 'Pop up play,' a feature that allows you to play a video anywhere on your screen while simultaneously running other tasks, eliminating the need to close and restart videos when checking new emails or surfing the Web. Its 8MP camera features a zero-lag shutter speed that lets you capture moving objects easily without delay – the image you see is the picture you take. With the 'Burst shot' function that instantly captures twenty continuous shots, and the 'Best photo' feature that selects the best of eight photographs for you, the GALAXY S III ensures users a more enhanced and memorable camera experience. HD video can be recorded even with the 1.9MP front-facing camera, which you can use to capture a video of yourself. Improved backside illumination further helps to eliminate blur in photos that result from shaking, even under low lights.

Mobile payment is also accessible with the device through advanced Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The gaming experience is enhanced through 'Game Hub,' providing access to numerous social games, while Video Hub brings users high quality TV and movies. Furthermore, Samsung Music Hub will offer a personal music streaming service. Game Hub, Video Hub and Music Hub will be introduced in select countries initially and soon rolled out to global markets.

The Samsung GALAXY S III will be available from the end of May in Europe before rolling out to other markets globally.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Unpacked Event Images

Posted: 03 May 2012 10:40 AM PDT

We’re on the ground live at Earls Court and we’ve gotten past the gatekeepers and are now inside!

Our man Sam Cater describes it as a “beautiful holding pen” While nothing can be seen yet, the setting itself is very beautiful. It appears that things are being hidden behind a rather massive curtain. Currently, there are roughly 1000 people in attendance. But enough out of me – take a look for yourself below! As we’ve already hear, there will be a white version, as well as a blue version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 coming to market, and the color theme seems to suggest that.

[Update]

We will be getting hands on time with the device(s)! Stay tuned!

Samsung Galaxy S3 Release Date Leaks

Posted: 03 May 2012 09:41 AM PDT

The release date for the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the stuff of legends. Rumor after rumor has tricked through our scrutinizing fingers, culminating in what can be summed up as the most hyped and anticipated Android phone – ever. Period.

Techradar just broke with a story that claims they have been “told by numerous confidential but very trustworthy sources that the Samsung Galaxy S3 UK release date (Or ‘Next Galaxy’, as it’s officially known right now) will definitely be ‘the end of May’.” But, if you’re looking for something a little more specific, then read on!

What to expect

Samsung did it’s best to have a unified launch of the Galaxy S2 last year, but it did not go as planned. The reasons are numerous, yet they can be summed up in one simple word – money.  You see, there are different connectivity standards globally, varying from different variants of LTE, to HSPA, to HSPA+, with others falling somewhere in between. This time Sammy’s got nearly 200 carriers on board, so it should be a much faster roll out globally.

Carriers, not individual consumers, are the largest purchasers of mobile devices on the planet, and many did not want to launch the device according to the schedule that Samsung had envisioned. Case in point, in the U.S, over 70% of devices are purchased on contract. Who’s the boss now? The device went on sale internationally in May and didn’t reach Western shores for way, way too long, and this embittered many consumers.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Release Date

I have finally found the love of my life...

Anyway, this time around it’s going to be different.

I know, I know, you’ve heard that before, and so have we too. But it appears that Samsung has learned from last year’s bitter lesson, and has been courting carriers and distributors on a scale never before witnessed.

We have our own connections to the rumor mill too. From everything we’ve been able to gather, from listening closely to the supply line, and to employees conducting connectivity testing for carriers around the world, it is appearing highly likely that the device will go on sale first in the UK, with a targeted date of May 28 for release.

As is often the case, we will see other leaks confirming the validity of this date soon. Shortly thereafter, the device will go on sale in South Korea and Japan, set to be released during the same week. Afterwards, it will pop up in Singapore very early in June, with Malaysia to be the country to get it next. After that, it’s too difficult to say – for now.

Obviously, this is one of the biggest device launches of recent record. Unfortunately, it is looking like those of you Stateside will have to wait for at least 6 weeks before it gets picked up by any carrier on Western Shores. Also, there’s nothing yet for Australia or New Zealand, but we will keep our ear close to the ground, and update this post accordingly, with fresh info as we receive it!

Be sure to read first impressions, hands on, and comparison against the world’s best smartphones here!

Are you liking what you see with the Galaxy S3? Going to pick one up? Let us know what you love or hate about the brand spanking new Galaxy S3! Is it the new king of Superphones? Better than HTC One X? How about the iPhone? We’d love to know your thoughts! Also, be sure to enter our international giveaway of the Samsung Galaxy S3 here too!

Best Android apps for videographers and video editors

Posted: 03 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT

With smartphones becoming more powerful these days in terms of speed and hardware specifications, it seems that more people nowadays prefer to bring their phones rather than bring bulky equipment. Speaking of bulky, shooting videos with your smartphone is a great alternative than bringing along a video camera.

Smartphones nowadays are already packed with HD capabilities and it's no wonder why people choose their trusted phones to capture and record videos. But don't you know that you can also enhance your video with the use of Android applications? We've put together a list of the most creative video-editing apps that let you enhance and edit your videos on the go.

Clesh Video Editor

Clesh Video Editor is the ultimate cloud-based video editor that offers real time rendering in the cloud. Users can create masterpieces from their videos and photos. The app lets users identify all the best bits and use them in a storyboard. However, Clesh Video Editor is not entirely built for newbies, but rather, the app requires you to have basic knowledge when it comes to video editing. Veteran users of PC-oriented video editing applications can really appreciate how powerful Clesh Video Editor can be on your phone.

Featuring full time editing, storyboard trimming, and lots of real-time video transitions, Clesh Video Editor is a powerhouse app that can do just about everything. Other features include auto color correction, graphic overlay tracks, and matrix-style slow-motion effects on the go.

Snip Video Trimmer

Another application that has been added to the video-editing app list is Snip Video Trimmer. If you're fond of watching movies on your smartphone, then you probably have explored the option of trimming down your videos. Snip Video Trimmer is a fantastic app for editing and creating videos on the fly. Aside from being a video editing application, Snip Video Trimmer also lets you shorten clips and view information directly from the app itself. You can also upload and share short videos over the web.

Snip Video Trimmer is simple software that doesn't necessarily have fancy additions compared to its counterparts. But, for users who just need a lighter video editing application on the go, then Snip Video Trimmer is the right application of choice.

Video Slide Show Maker

Video Slide Show Maker is another application that lets you easily create slide show video presentations on the go. Users who are acquainted with PowerPoint presentations may find this app pretty useful. If you have lots of pictures on your phone then Video Slide Show Maker makes it easy for you to compile them onto one neat video presentation.

Users can create personalized video slideshows using multimedia content found on their phone. Creating presentations is easy, as users just need to select the photos they want to be included in their slide show, make the necessary enhancements, and add the media to their slide show.

They can also add music and text to make their slide show even more entertaining and informative to watch. Apart from that, they can also pan and zoom from the image and add a specific duration for the next slide to show. As an added bonus, the app also supports transition effects to unleash your creative style. After you have created your video slide show presentation, you can save it as an MP4 file and upload it directly to YouTube.

Ultimate Special FX

Have you ever wanted to become an action star on your own movie? This is your chance to become one–and all you need is your smartphone to do your bidding. Turn ordinary shots into stunning, breathtaking movie clips with the Ultimate Special FX application developed by TechCat Mobile.

Ultimate Special FX offers users different visual effects that they can apply to their videos. From missile pods to air destruction, nothing is more satisfying than having Hollywood-style video effects rolling out on your camera. To add special effects, users just need to select a specific scene, and then start shooting on their cameras. In order for the visual effects to be seen in your shot, you need to let the app know what scene you need to insert the effect.

Don't expect to see some fancy or complex special effects that you see in movies, as Ultimate Special FX is still in its infancy. As of now, the app is only limited to a number of scenes, but rest assured the developers will be adding more effects in the later updates.

VidTrim Pro

From the name itself VidTrim Pro is a video editor for Android smartphones that lets users trim, grab frames, compress, and share their videos over the net. VidTrim Pro is a simple and easy-to-use editing application for Android. The app itself doesn't require a powerful processor and works well with almost all Android devices.

For the price of a dollar, the app’s pro version is equipped with decent features that include trimming of original video clips, as well as playing and sharing video clips via YouTube and other video hosting sites.

Users can save their freshly edited videos, and if you happen to be short of storage space, you can take full advantage of the option to overwrite the original video. The application works well in portrait and landscape modes, which is pretty convenient if you want to sit down and get down to some hardcore trimming.

VidTrim is surprisingly fast in trimming and cutting down videos without any performance lags. And, if you are running it on a high-end phone, then there should be no problem with editing.

Lapse It

Lapse It for Android is a unique way to brilliantly capture videos, as it converts any video you shoot into a stunning piece of art. For those of you who aren't familiar, Lapse It is an award-winning, full-featured app that captures amazing time lapse clips using only your Android camera.

Lapse It is fairly easy to use and beginners who are new to taking videos will become instant professionals with just a week's practice. To capture time-lapse videos, users just need to select the duration of seconds in between images, select a color effect, and hit the capture button to start shooting. After you finish recording, the app will then give you options to render your videos in either MP4, MOV, or FLV formats with various resolutions and frame rates.

If you're planning on recording videos for the long stretch, then we might suggest that you keep a fully charged battery and a clean memory card.

AndroMedia Video Editor

Another video editor for Android that might suite you fancy is AndroMedia. Designed with a simple, easy to use interface, users will never have a hard time creating wonderful short clips.

AndroMedia is a fully featured video editing program that lets users design and create professional videos in a matter of minutes, thanks to the app's informative user-interface. To edit videos, users just have to configure their project by setting the frame size, default transition, output format, and quality.

After that, they can just drag and drop various multimedia like videos, pictures and sounds to their project. Apart from that they can also trim videos and apply cool transitioning effects. There is also the audio settings in which they can mash-up sound tracks. Once the desired options are already in place, users just need to render their video to finish the project.

VideoCam Illusion

Here's one funny application that you would want to try. Videocam Illusion from Mobile Illusion lets users record videos in real-time with special effects that will make them drop their jaws in amazement.

Videocam Illusion features cool real-time effects on any video that you have captured on your Android smartphone. Adding real-time special effects is pretty simple. All you need to do is install the application and you will be automatically directed to camera recording. Click the recording button and you're all set to capture images. Applying special effects and filters can be done within the camera recording itself.

Choose from different filter effects such as mono, Chicago, pencil, x-ray, and other filters. Users can also combine different filters, effects, and mask options to make their videos even more creative.

The app also offers numerous other options that include audio settings, recording speeds, and memory for users to choose from. Videos you have recorded using the application will be automatically stored inside your phone's SD card.

AndroVid Video Trimmer

Another video editor for users who love to create videos on their phone is AndroVid Video Trimmer. Packed with tons of unique features that separate it from other Android editing apps, AndroVid Video Trimmer can trim videos in numerous ways. Trimming videos comes in a variety of choices that includes splitting a single clip into two entities, as well as grabbing video frames to be saved as single images–and so much more.

Additionally, the app also converts videos to MP3 format–pretty useful for users who have tons of music videos. The app also organizes clips for easy referencing and even lets you upload them to social networking sites such as Facebook. Video frames that you have grabbed can also be set as wallpapers.

Stock Camcorder

One of the basic apps that run on any Android device is the Camcorder. The app is considered as the starting ground of many users as it also known as the stock camera app that works on all Android devices running Android 1.6 and higher. The preinstalled camera app can record full HD videos depending on your phone’s hardware. The app also lets you tweak video recording quality depending on the megapixel resolution you are going to use, as well as the file size to save you precious storage space.

Camcorder also supports tap-to-zoom, and can turn your phone's flash into handy little flashlights for recording in low light conditions. Lastly, the app also supports video stabilization and other effects, although these really depend on your phone's hardware. If you're lucky enough to own the latest phone that supports HD recording, then consider yourself lucky.

Do you capture videos as a hobby? Or, are you a pro? What’s your experience with video recording on Android? What app do you run to whenever you need to edit videos on your Android device?
